The only song Armando sang in Santana. Puerto Ricans appreciate his acknowledgement of Puerto Rico in this song. Where is he don’t see him singing . RIP
I have to share this with all of you, one night at a San Mateo Marshalls, I came across Armando Peraza looking for a pair of shoes. One conversation led to another and we spent almost an hour talking about music, baseball and food. One of the most humble and gracious person that I have ever met! I will never forget that moment and the time we shared. Que dios te bendiga siempre senor Peraza.
after his death i appraised his house in San Mateo.. did not know who he was.. there must have been 30+ conga drums at the house, music posters, gold reords, i said to his wife.. "it is obvious your husband was a musician, did he play in a band"?.... "Santana" she replied.. i then asked if i could spend more time in house looking at all the memorabilia, lots of signed Santana stuff.. it was like being a museum..
Armando Perraza was a Cuban born percussionist equally versatile on Conga or Bongo and was a legend in his own right. His influence on the band was more on the Afro-Cuban music rooted in the Santeria religion. He brought a “swing” to the band that it did not have before along with with another legendary Cuban percussionist Orestes Vilato on the timbales. No knock on Mike Carabello or Chepito Areas, these 2 guys were on another level.
@@t0nyc39 Armando and Chepito together were great. They really complimented each other. Armando had such a great groove and Chepito is so dynamic. I'm glad to have seen them both in Santana back in 1973 and a few more times in the mid 70's.
I was 15 yrs old & was captured into this man’s music. Just as much as they were in Australia that afternoon. This band & it’s leader will always be my favorite & am proud this man still sells out venues. At this point of his career he wasn’t selling lots of records but as you can see still people couldn’t resist a live performance. Carlos Santana will always be a musician who performed from pure love for making people want to hear a very special sound. As Bill Graham put it, as for me at 60 I’m pretty damn blessed to have been able to follow most of his career all my life. With plenty of concert memories though out the ages here in sunny Fresno CA better known as Fresnal Califas! 😎
This was a GREAT version of the band. Tom Coster had all the sounds and the chops to go with it. He's always been my favorite Santana keyboard player. Have also always loved Armando Peraza's playing. LEGENDARY!!!
Coster and Richard Kermode both playing in Santana in 72 and 73 was incredible. I've always loved Tom's playing.......but when Richard departed in the beginning of 74, I felt a huge hole in the sound and missing those great Latin grooves that Richard played.
Oh mannnnnn. Thanks for posting this. One of my favorite cuts we did together. Great to see this band- just as I remember them. Sad that Armando is not shown, when he is singing his butttttt off. Starting at 5:00 ! Montuno madnesssss ! Viva Armando !!! And, on the record - Carlos played that gorgeous intro on acoustic guitar. I lovvvve it.
david rubinson i great pleasure to get in touch with you to me you are one of the greatest producer from the bay area you produce as well malo my highly respect from a santana fan i considered a fan from you production too orale david
santana es el maestro de marstros felicidades a carlos santana y ke dios le de muchos pero muchos años de vida para ke nosotros sus fans lo podamos disfrutar
it's a real shame the cameramen didn't have a clue who was on main vox - the one and only conga slapping percussion maestro himself: Armando Peraza.. big respect!
sentimientos dentro de los sonidos........ ni muertes ni heridos.... solo el amor aunque ya este perdido... el amor ,,,,del universo....¡¡¡ enegia universal helios ybarra
I've guess that all the conga percussionist has always wind up been place in the background, behind the back burner. Check out at the congalist, Mike Carrabello, he has been place on an background instrumentalist, but not been place as a lead band player, and he composed the song called, No One To Depend On.
“Vengo de tierra lejana Con mi guitarra en la mano Tengo notas de cariño Para todos mis Hermanos Go-sa como go-so yo, amigo Go-sa como go-so yo, amigo Go-sa como go-so yo, amigo Go-sa como go-so yo, amigo Tengo notas de cariño Para todos mis hermanos Vengo de tierra lejana Con mi guitarra en la mano Go-sa como go-so yo, amigo Go-sa como go-so yo, amigo Go-sa como go-so yo, amigo Go-sa como go-so yo, amigo Al llegar a Puerto Rico [amigo] Me creia que era rico [amigo] Y al cruzar por una sierra, bongó [amigo] Visité a Rio Piedra [amigo] El día que yo me muera [amigo] Yo tengo que ir a la gloria [amigo] Porque quise mucho a novia [amigo] Entre a la puerta a una iglesia [amigo] Y yo me puse a rezar [amigo] Para consolar mis penas [amigo] Yo vi una linda morena [amigo] Go-sa como go-so yo, amigo Go-sa como go-so yo, Armando Armando [8x] Go-sa como go-so yo, amigo Go-sa como go-so yo, Ndugu Ndugu [8x] Go-sa como go-so yo, amigo Go-sa como go-so yo, amigo”
I love the sound of the electric guitar, especially when somebody like Carlos or Hendrix is playing it, but when I 1st heard this song being played, on the AMIGOS album, by Santana on acoustic guitar I had goose bumps. IMHO, this song sounds much better being played on acoustic guitar - just my 2 cents...
This is NOT an Ibanez but a Yamaha SG2000 guitar that Carlos and Yamaha developed together back in the mid/late 70's as Carlos wanted a guitar with extreme sustain. www.yamaha.co.jp/english/product/guitar/sg/concept/
Carlos with his Trappist monk haircut. Love his Yamaha guitar. Not a fan of his PRS sound in his more recent years. Oh well, at least he's still playing.
This was during a major reconfiguration of the Santana band; 1. Gone were original/longtime bassist David Brown and well as the brilliant Welcome/Lotus-era bassist Dougie Rauch, replaced by David Margren 2. Original Timbalero/Percussionist Jose "Chepito" Areas was gone replaced by Azteca founder Pete Escovedo 3. Original drummer Michael Shrieve as well as his temp replacement Ndugu Chancler were out and replaced by Graham Lear 4. Original keyboardist Gregg Rolie replaced by the incredible Tom Coster and Richard Kermode--tho only Coster remain here 5. Congero Armando Peraza (who replaced original percussionist Michael Carabello) is still here although the newly-hired Raul Rekow makes his appearance 6. And while Santana never really had a standalone singer, Greg Walker is now fronting the band on vocals And Santana ditched his sweet-sounding Les Paul for the Yamaha...and his tone has been all downhill ever since.
Que raro Santana siempre tuvo el pelo largo y no se parece nada . Es más los muchachos de la banda a nadie conocido tengo duda que sea Carlos Santana ?
Don't think it's better for all of us especially with no brain you have no reason to be here go back to your tech music and trying to figure out what is going on with yourself 😅.
The message from the music and souls of this band are far too deep for a shallow person who clearly doesn't understand what happeneds when you get people from different parts of the world and they gel together and give everyone a great gift of music and souls of this song that clearly states extending friendship to others through music .
The only song Armando sang in Santana. Puerto Ricans appreciate his acknowledgement of Puerto Rico in this song. Where is he don’t see him singing . RIP
Thanks for post this video.
The man, the myth, the legend. Carlos santana!!

Agree. People think keyboards ended with Gregg Rolle. I always thought Coster fit in just as well.

cARLOS sANTANA IS THE bEST Musitition of all time . Period
David Margen always held down The Bottom on Bass
Ahí le sobraba el talento. Tocaba sin manos, a pura alma.
This time a spanish flamenco Cuban Salsa music, as this time all these unusual electronic latin rhythmic instruments.

I love how as soon as I start watching I ask, when was this? I look at the description for info and the single line answers my question exactly.
58 people without knowledge of great music, how sad.
A noter que Carlos jouait à cette époque sur une IBANEZ SG2000
This is NOT an Ibanez but a Yamaha SG2000 guitar that Carlos and Yamaha developed together back in the mid/late 70's as Carlos wanted a guitar with extreme sustain. www.yamaha.co.jp/english/product/guitar/sg/concept/
Yes yes yes !!!! I'm sorry. i wanted to write Yamaha. I had a model SG300 the little SG in the eighties :-)
Carlos playing "Yamaha de cuerpo solido" guitar
Yep....my favorite Carlos guitar of all time....i wish he would bring it back out on tour.
Equally for me it si the best guitar for the Santana sound.
Sg maybe 3000
A música latino e seus ritmos falam mais alto.E Gitano não foge ao ritmo.
For the anthropology aficionados Carlos Santana look very dinaric.
Carlos with his Trappist monk haircut. Love his Yamaha guitar. Not a fan of his PRS sound in his more recent years. Oh well, at least he's still playing.
Good concert. Where. Does it took place and when th at happened ?
