I am smitten by 1309. So smooth. So beautiful. In my top five favorite steam locomotives. Even the workmen stopped their jobs and watched her depart the station. I also enjoyed the fog rolling in at the end of the Grab.
The train whistle from the steam locomotive you show in Cumberland MD is a REAL train horn. The new train horns can’t touch it. Love watching the trains!
@bogusbits6810I thought I’d heard that but wasn’t sure. That’s why I used whistle one time and horn another. Thanks for clarifying it. I can’t think of the correct word to use for the steam whistle (deep? robust?) but I wonder if they could imitate it in the electrical horns?

Elkhart, Ind., with C.N. E8A in tow, I saw the other one here in Green Bay, nearly 12 years ago, and parked in front of the large classic station of the C&NW at 200 Dousman St., when it was used as the "TITLE-TOWN BREWING COMPANY" with great food, and outdoors dining when the freights arrive like at 5:15 pmcd., right during supper 🍽 😋 👌, DELICIOUS!!!!! TRAINS!, AND FOOD, TOGETHER!!!!! Plus ➕ in 2021it was changed into the DEPOT GASTRO--PUB with the same GREAT FOOD 👍 👌 😀!!!!!
Is it just myimagination, or does the word Southern appear on the names of many railroads, both past and present? Also, what was causing the strobe light effects on the Wichita shots?
Wow! I was just wondering the exact same thing. And the strobe light thing. Those are both things I've been meaning to ask. You've been reading my mind! 😄
one of these days I gotta get all those BNSF merged railroads on grain hopper cars in HO yay BN Jordan Spredder 16:15 where was that neat CN loco going? yeah it was pretty foggy with freezing rain 10-26 there

@@TinkerTailor4303 My apologies! A hump yard is designed to allow cars to be pushed and uncoupled along the way. They are then remotely switched to different yard tracks and they smack into cars already stored in that track. DO NOT HUMP keeps cars from potential damage if they have sensitive cargo like transformers or windmill blades
20:10 Your Darwin candidate most like has some sort of mental disorder to be raking the railroad tracks like that. Many years ago I used to ride a bus to work and there was a woman across the street who used to sweep the sidewalk and gutter every morning. It's very sad to see these people wandering around the streets instead of getting the help they need.
Love the guy playing the bagpipes at Horseshoe Curve! 🏴
Bagpipeing on the Pennsy , now that's a story worth looking into 🎺🎵
Best closing shot ever!!!
1:43 Chessie! And a warm welcome to Burlington Iowa, may this be the first of many appearances on the Grab Bag.
The fog rolling in Arvada Colorado and was a blessing from God to all Railfans. Thank you peace be with you all.

The fog in Arvada was beautiful!
I like the old timey silent film style music that was played during the Galesburg clip!! :-D
All worked construction ceased when the grand lady rolled up singing her song! Love it

I love the sound of steam whistles. Reminds me of when I was a kid.
@bogusbits6810 Diesel locomotives have AIR, not electric, horns.
That CN E9,was a nice combination of old,and post Noodle paint schemes! Different,no end!! Thank you 😇 😊!!

Anyone know who or where NS got the blue and white loco from?
NS bought a few locos from Citirail leasing; they're -9's
@@Silver_Turtle Ok Thanks

What's that green Skykomish thing?
Jordan Spreader/snowplow, tho apparently a new fangled model. Probably being spotted where it can be handy for snow clearing service this year.
I wondered if it might be a home-made spreader converted from a caboose? It didn't look as sophisticated as the usual Jordan ones to me.

Yeah! What the heck was he doing?
@@srvntlilly Thought maybe he had dropped something on the track but I dunno.

My question, too.
Don't shove cars by gravity in a hump yard

Killing the chroma on WMSR 1309 is completely unnecessary. This is 2023. Not 1953...
Stop making the steam train black and white, please.
I like it! To each his own.
