- ➝ This Episode:
We venture up to New Jersey to buy a truck camper! We did a video walkthrough with a salesman before making the trip and everything looked great. However, once we arrived and started conducting our PDI (pre-delivery inspection), we found water damage. In this video, we share what we look for when doing a PDI and why we still opted to buy an RV with water damage!

Awesome! Welcome to the truck camper life. Can't wait to see your renovation.
As always, so much great information. Carmen is wondering how she is going to get onto the bed! LOL I really can't say enough about how much I respect you both for your decision to not do a video when you checked out the first camper that you didn't care for. So many feel they have 100% rights to video and share on the internet whatever they come across, without a thought to it. You both continue to be honest and respectful, while also being informative and influential. I will continue to follow your journey!
I agree Carmen is looking for her bed. 😅
Congrats on the new to you Lance camper. I purchased a 2004 Lance back in 2011 from the original owner and have no regrets since. I am old school and just believe campers built back in the early 2000's weren't slapped together as they are now. I think your renovations will prove me right.
Congratulations! This is going to be so fun to watch you two on this new journey!
Oooo, can't wait to see the renovation!
Water damage causing delamination. It is a major problem on all RV'S. You have to always be aware and always do repairs before it becomes an issue. Slide outs are an area you should inspect often. I have had major delamination problems on two of my RV'S caused by product failure from the assembly line. Now I have a steel body van type motorhome. IT will not delaminate but might rust away. Most RV owners become good at fixing things, because every thing has it's set of problems. Enjoy your new camper and remember to carry a tool box with you.
We are watching you pick up your new to you truck camper here in NJ and at the end you pull into Gleason. My wife and I said we know exactly where that is ! We my have passed you and never knew it. Best of wishes for your new project.
Really looking forward to future videos!!!!
Congratulations, we liked our first Lance 1181 that we got another one after the first one was totaled out after being blown over by the wind.
Congratulations on your new rig! I can’t wait to see how you make it your own! I’m so happy you are back to vlogging! It seems like you, the Mortons, Brady’s & Freedom theory all stopped at the same time & I felt like I lost my kids🤪🤣!
Congratulations !!!! So excited for you both and your new adventure and can't wait to see the reno . Stay well and travel safe .
Glad you found the right camper truck that you really love. Carmen looks like she loves it. She looked like she was looking for a place to lay down. Can’t wait until you show your camper as you do the renovating. I would love to see that. Hope you had a great Labor Day weekend and great week and hope you have a great weekend.
So exciting! looking forward to the new adventure and of course the renos!! ...I'm French so I thought I would help out with the pronunciation of "laissez faire" sounds like "less hay" + "fair".
congrats!!!!! it was so nice to see Carmen, so cute!!!!!
So excited for you guys!
Just cerious what happened to the 5th wheel iv been away for awhile. Love your videos
Welcome to truck camper travels! We love our's. If you remove camper off truck remember to bring tag too. I cheat - laminate & color photo copy original to mount on camper.
I remember when you both started out way back when and how nervous Rae was about the whole full-time RV concept. With both of you both coming off M-F 9-5 high stress jobs and jumping right into the big rig Solitude, it was such a huge jump for both of you to make. I've really enjoyed watching you both grow into the full-time RV lifestyle, especially seeing Rae slowly grow more relaxed and comfortable, and now it's really exciting to me to see you both so excited to downsize even further and tackle a reno project. It'll be interesting to see what design choices you make and repair issues to overcome along the way as you create your new home. Be certain I'll be watching every video! Stay safe out there!
Can't wait to see how different you will travel. Thanks for sharing.
So happy to see your faces again. Looking forward to your new adventure. Still waiting for you to come to Galveston. 😊
Great to see you guys on camera! Congratulations on the new rig.
Glad to see y'all are back.
Love your hat Rae!
welcome to the truck camper world! We have a 2021 arctic fox 811 and love it. We'd loved to have had a bigger rig but I have a shortbed truck (ram dually megacab) and didn't want to give up the extra cab space for the few weeks a year we're in our camper. Overall we love it as well, we can tow modest trailers, carry our bikes with us easily, fit into most normal spots and go offroad to places we'd never take a trailer. It's a great option and I look forward to seeing your travels and how you all like it!
Congrats and how fun! I'm so happy you guys are back and I'm looking forward to the renovations. I wish I could take you guys with me when I begin my used RV search but since I can't, I'll just reference your vlogs as I go. 😉
Welcome to the Lance Truck Camper family!!! You’ll love it!! We are currently selling our 41’ Montana. We’ve decide truck camping is the way to go (for us).
Congrats on your new rig. Crossroads is a decent dealership. We've bought our last three travel trailers from them. The first two had the typical new trailer issues. This dealership stood behind what they sold and took care of us. That's why we came back again for the third. Again congrats and Happy Camping.
Look forward to seeing what you do…and Jason, thanks for Russell Wilson…Let’s Ride!!!
Livn lite has a truck camper with no wood built into it. They were bought out. However they still have great quality used campers available still.
Great to see you back and happy
Not only am I laughing because I'm pretty sure I recognize where you purchased your new-to-you Cramper because I was born/raised/still have family in Jersey, but also because the Yuengling mango beer is brewed just a few miles from our home and I pass by multiple times a week! I'm betting you're planning an Alaska trip... We too would like a Cramper for certain trips on our list, and will hedge bets more nice, gently used units will appear in the next couple years since it will supplement, not replace, our 5er. Like you, I believe you found a great used Cramper to make your own! Looking forward to seeing what you do to it and the RAM to bear it. Best of luck on this new chapter of your journey!
Congrats, looking forward to watching the renovations.
Awesome so glad you guys are back !
We just spent 3 weeks in Colorado without our solitude and what I discovered was I would love to have a truck camper for those sorta places. A truck campers just opens up so many more options for you. Don’t get me wrong I love my solitude but it would have been a little painful and very stressful pulling.
Looks like a fun project thanks for sharing your adventure.
I am excited to see the renovation! Love you three!
Looking forward to you guys ripping that apart and putting it back together. What a change in size.
So exciting!!!! Congratulations!!!!
Great tip on PDI and taking notes and using to negotiate. We ended up with a $300 gift card to the dealership parts store because of some issues we found during our PDI.
I paid an NRVIA certified inspector look at the 5th wheel I bought in another state. Best money I’ve ever spent!!!
Just spent 2 months in Alaska, so many truck campers on the road! I think Canada and Alaska utilize them a lot
I grew up in AK and agree with your assessment. Now as an adult living elsewhere and owning a Class C, I'm wondering why. LOL
Nice to see you guys again, especially Carmen.
Look forward to watching the renovation and see what the actual hidden damage might be. Also interested in your truck and the changes you make. You should both become certified RV inspectors to make extra money and content for those crazy damages you might find as an inspector(s). Now you can camp outside your favorite Big Orange or Blue for the renovation
So glad you two are back and are okay. Gotta admit, my mom radar was alerted during your last few videos before you stepped away. Could tell something was wrong. But, watched your comeback video and now this and it all makes sense and you are awesome. All the best on your reno. Can't wait to see the results. Take care!
So happy for you guys. Did all this with our Newmar. Enjoy
Great camper! So glad Carmen approved! 🥰. You guys seem really happy. Hope you enjoy your new “home”.
Awesome! Looking forward to more of your adventures and learning more. Especially cool since I'm watching this video in my truck camper.
Congrats. I grew up camping in a 1960s truck camper. They've sure come a long way. That's already a better layout then what I'm used to. Look forward to seeing you make it your own.
Looks like a fun project. I haven't had slides on any of my rigs since I see people have issues with them. Looking forward to the renovation...maybe it will change my mind on slides. You are off to a good start.
We look forward to seeing what your renovations will be. Congratulations on the new purchase. It looks like the water damage is minimal? Good luck!
Looks like fun -be following your new adventure 😃🇺🇸
Cool. Can't wait to see your new adventures. We watch all your videos and when we're in a town you've been to we check out the breweries you visited and we met you in Tampa. Just saying we look forward to hearing what you're up to.
Great choice with the TC, we love ours, can't wait to see what you do with it.
This is going to be good. I will be following along.
Congrats ! enjoy your new camper !
Congrats! A Lance is one of the best brands out there, or they used to be anyway. You should look at the new campers out there for inspiration. The interiors are beautiful. Having a slide in a camper is really nice. Enjoy the restoration!
We had the same model 2009 loved it had two different lances both of them we had trouble with condensation no leaks in the corners when it was cold water would condensate so much it would cause wood rot
I bought a 2021 RAM Dually and was disappointed realizing the payload wasn't enough for most newer truck campers.
Our neighborhood doesn't allow 3500 and larger unless you can fit it in the garage. I got the 3500 in the garage but I believe a 4500 would be too tall.
Looks like someone's been talking with the Morton's. Looking forward to future content.
I have had 7 different Truck Campers before I went to towable and 5th wheel and my best and favorite was the Lance 11 foot 1992 no slides but LP generator.
I enjoyed my cabover so easy to maneuver. Now cross winds were fun lol. Been thinking about getting another one .
Amazing as always! So very excited to see you guys are back with a new adventure, we missed you! Love the new rig! And thanks so much for the information, that was awesome! Much love and big hugs!
Awesome looking RV and pretty spacious considering. I would prefer that over most vans. I am looking forward to seeing the renovation! Good luck guys!
Hey guys! Nancy and I came by to check out your latest creation. We are in Texas at the moment.
I had a Lance camper for 15 years and we drove over 100,000 miles with it. But one day there was strong side winds and it literally ripped the tie downs out of the camper and it flipped over on its side but stayed in the pickup bed! A nice motorcycle guy stopped and we literally pushed back upright in the bed! And then trying to drive it unsecured off the highway is another story. But just a warning I would never ever drive thru strong side winds with a camper. By the way it not only ruined the camper but also twisted the whole bed of the truck!
Hi scott here. I had a coachmen truck camper before my other campers. Just be careful with the side door. My camper was 12 feet long so it hung over the back of the truck by over 4 feet. Mine the door frame started to crack on the outside. Don t think it will happen to you. Just think of putting something to help sopport the weight. (Peice of metal or wood to help sopport the weight. How long is your slide in camper.
My only question is from a 5th wheel to a truck camper. Hum been watching you guys for years. I’m a truck camper guy here in So. Cal. Truck camper is a different world less space but movability in travel. This is getting more Interesting to me. Welcome back by the way I’m gearing up for Alaska truck camper trip.
Love ya'lls adventure. Thanks.
We recently got a new camper after full timing for the past 3 years in one camper. When we looked at it the first time we told the guy we weren’t new to RVs and sat pickup we went over the trailer with a fine tooth comb. He seemed very annoyed that we were opening every drawer, testing the switches and outlets, all the stuff you mentioned etc. he actually left us at one point then came back to see if we were done 🙄 we found a handful of issue that were supposed to be fixed but we had driven a total of 8 hours and already paid them so we weren’t going home without it (and made them fix some things but how frustrating it was!
Another thing to know is i have a 2006 class c and I left it parked in Las Vegas over the summer and the Sun melted the glue in the siding so it bubbled the siding like a leak would do. It also melted the glue in my car molding so it fell off and left glue on door jam’s
NO. WAY. You two bought your Lance just 15 minutes away from me?!? And Carmen 🐕❤️ drove right past on US 40 on your way to pizzeria & Gleeson's Liquors & TT Lake & Shore! It was cool for me watching & picking out the Jersey landmarks! Congratulations! Wishing you all the best on your new mission & adventures! Now when you hear the lyrics "sprung from cages on Highway 9, chrome-wheeled, fuel-injected & steppin' out over the line" in Bruce Springsteen's song Born To Run, you can say, "hey, we were sprung from the TT off US 9 after we spent the first night in our Lance truck 'cramper'..." Bruce is from Freehold NJ, also on Route 9! Haha! -Jeff Balogh, '21 GD Solitude 380FL-R (that you showcased on UA-cam & sold me on!), wish they treated us BOTH better after they got what they wanted... 😏😉
Not far from us too. However, we have had horrible experiences at Cross Roads.
Good job guys..!!
Congrats! You guys.
Great video guys I’m happy for you both and excited to see your new adventures 👍👍
We love our LANCE!! YOU CAN GO SOOOOO MANY PLACES EASIER!! In n out of gas stations are #1❤️
Camper looks in pretty good shape, look forward to seeing the renovations - best wishes
Our 5th wheel is also a 2005
Good video 😀 but hard to believe you went from a fifth wheel to a smaller truck camper but can't wait for the transformation but have a good day 😃
You needed to teach your dog how to smell for mold and water damage LOL
Lance has a good reputation.
Love the Seahawks hat! ❤️♥️❤️
you overlooked the two most critical items, the "decals/stickers" on the rear of your new RV. He was military it would appear with the "ARMY" decal, as well as the Snap-On decal, which are/were considered the best "tools" for years, so might have been a car guy, always a major plus!
Ii remember when you first started rving and you both looked like fish out of water when doing maintenance and repairs. You've come a long way.
Love this more realistic living!!
Your back ! woo hoo
Yep I get the other peoples dirt. No thanks. And congratulations on the new camper. 🎉😊
My boyfriend text you yesterday. He said sent you message about your truck camper. His name is Scott.
Stop by I’m in West Virginia 60 miles outside of Washington DC. Harpers Ferry.
Nice camper!
Congratulations what does that thing weigh
Wow from 5th wheel to truck camper.
You've got me imaging living full time in one of these 🤔
The truck did seem to be squatting pretty good. Do you have o going to get air bags for helper springs???
Awesome
Join “Lance Owners Group” easy way to look up info on your Lance truck camper. A lot of user mods, tips & tricks to figure out your camper specifics. We got sold out toy hauler and bought a 1172 in 2019, haven’t looked back since.
You should take the truck with the camper on it to a cat scale to get your weight to state with good luck .
Hi from Washington state 😀
What happened to your other camper?
Never mind I see that you sold it
