    We own the Riverstone Reserve RK3850 which is a shorter version of the RK3950. Absolutely love it! The trash receptacle access is outstanding as we can get all our household waste in the opening. The nice part about this too is when eating/entertaining outside we simply walk our trash around the rig and open the access door so we never have to bring waste into our rig. We did purchase a taller trash can, replaced the drawer handle for the stair step drawer with a curved one as the stock one was stepped on and replaced the floor vent covers with ones made of metal. Other than those couple items I would recommend this rig or our model to anyone looking for a quality built 5th wheel.
    Thanks for sharing your content Barb and I always look forward to watching you guys.

    We saw this rig at the Michigan rv show in February and we really liked it. The only thing we didn’t like was that garbage can because with kids what will happen is they will throw things in there or shoved things in there and it won’t make it into the container. So when you go on the outside to dump the garbage you will always have to clean that cubby because let’s face it spaghetti sauce will not make it into the container 🤣🤣

    • @GetawayCouple

      I agree. I was thinking that if we had that we would to rig something up so the bag attaches to the top so nothing could miss the container.

    We also really considered the Riverstone, but instead opted for a Columbus 1492 383FB. Very similar plan with the half bath. We preferred the laundry in the bedroom as well you would be able to have your L couch because of the design of the Columbus. We also have the vacuum under the stairs to the bedroom which was an incredibly great bonus!

    Looks like a nice rig for sure. Good job showing its features. Having said that, we hope you guys don't get into the rhythm of bashing other brands.... like you did naming Grand Design in a negative comment. You guys are good people and it's not who we know you to be.

    • @GetawayCouple
      @GetawayCouple  2 роки тому

      Hey, Richard! It's not bashing at all. We lived in our GD for five years and toured their factory many times, so it's natural to compare. After learning about how the Riverstone is constructed, we do believe they are built better. Here's their factory tour if you're interested in seeing the differences: ua-cam.com/video/TL6OODT5wD0/v-deo.html

      Jason and Rae, I guess it's the way I heard your comments. If you feel that way about the Riverstone, and you aren't the first I've heard with those comments, then you should say that you like the unit. I just don't recall you ever calling out other brands when you were GD ambassadors as you did with Grand Design in this video.

    You need to try a 12V fridge..
    Lighter, faster cooling like a residential, keeps ice cream solid and FAST.. but uses less electric than the residential. And saves on gas, as well as greatly eliminates the danger of a fridge fire.

      Its made by Forest River, perhaps the major crap-makers in the RV industry for years now -- not to mention crap "Customer Care" as well (which to me is the other 50% of my buying decision). So regardless of how it "looks" and what "features" it has, I'll pass on this one.
      -- BR

    • @TonyBenton0728
      @TonyBenton0728 2 роки тому

      @@billredding2000 Riverstone only builds five a week Monday through Thursday and quality check on Friday. So don’t lump one brand in with the others. We have the Riverstone 42fskg and have had very few problems with it.

    • @billredding2000
      @billredding2000 2 роки тому

      @@TonyBenton0728 I guess that's true, but your single positive Riverstone experience is statically insignificant, and our idea of quality likely differs, as probably our concept of Customer Care after the sale as well.
      But yes, I AM aware of some brands producing a good product now and then. For example, Coachmen is crap, too -- except for their Class B, which is SUPPOSED to be better made then the rest of their stuff.
      Good luck with yours, but personally I'd not buy any brand under the umbrella of the huge (what, 12 brands?) Forest River conglomerate.
      I don't make these criticisms just on trivia or such, I'm talking about following the RV industry for DECADES. MOST RV makers produce cheap crap...the "mission" RV buyers have is to find the brands that are decent quality....but it's not an easy mission.
      Still, this is one thing I'd like to be WRONG about, as it's HIGH TIME the RV industry UPS THE BAR on what they're produce (materials used, fit & finish) and UP their Customer Care -- so far, however, I've seen neither happen.
      And don't get me started on the crappy RV dealers whose "Service Depts" (term used loosely) make things worse, using the customer as a ping-pong-ball between them and the manufactures re warranty items, while the owners' RVs are parked in some back lot and unavailable to them for use.
      Happy Travels,

    The reason they trim up the door the windows with valances and fabric is because windows are a tremendous heat transfer area and if it’s hot outside you need to keep the heat outside if you’re trying to use energy of any kind propane or electricity to keep your big warm you can lose a lot of heat from your windows.

    We prefer rear living area for the view out the back which is usually best at state parks. We hate window valances and removed them all. The kitchen in this rig is basically for one person. Our Flagstaff 832IKBS has an island WITHOUT a sink which makes meal prep a lot easier.

  • @rvcouple7566
    @rvcouple7566 2 роки тому

    The problem with the rear kitchen is it gets the most bouncing, etc. when going down the road. You’ll hear stories about the cabinets bouncing open. Not sure the rear refrigerator would hold up as well as one not at the back. Floor plan seems great until you add the road. Just our opinion as we almost purchased one when we replaced our last 5th wheel. Glad we skipped the rear kitchen based on other owners we’ve met.

    Great tour! Nice rig! I love all the things you pointed out - it's a very livable, practical rig. A few things are killers for me - definitely not a fan of floor vents, the electrical panel/fuses look like they are behind the slide in the bedroom (correct me if I'm wrong) where you can't access it if the dresser slide is closed, and the door stop under the step looks like it could catch a foot if someone is not paying attention. I agree with the idea of an L-shaped sofa and larger slide but at least the recliners are opposite the TV (though the TV looks a little high.
    Oh and I dislike Solera awnings. Too many problems. Had 2 Dometic awnings for years on our previous RV and 2 Carefree awnings on our current one - all have been great and trouble free.

      I don't always pay attention to complaints on FB (there are way too many complainers who won't do their own research or repairs) but I have noticed a lot of replacing of the newer awnings. I'm guessing Solera gave a better deal to GD since that's what is going on the new models.

    It seems everyone has some dislikes about this rig, but as everyone knows, no rig is going to be perfect for everyone. You pick what best fits your budget. This is a beautiful rig, and I agree it is perfect for full-timers. I don’t like floor registers, and with the price of this rig, I wouldn’t expect to see them, but Because of everything else, I doubt they’d be a dealbreaker for me.
    As much as I like this rig, it’s over my budget and my wife would never go for it. I personally like the floor plan of the front living room or front kitchen of the Solitude, but I think the Solitude is even in the area of $140k - $150k now, which is absurd. I hope RV’s go down in price in 18 months which is when we plan on buying our full-time rig.

    Does it have a plywood floor? Many of Forest River companies have a composite type floor, which will hold up for occasional use but not full time living.

      Hey there, it does have a plywood floor. You can watch their factory tour video here, I believe they start talking about the flooring around 4 minutes in: ua-cam.com/video/TL6OODT5wD0/v-deo.html

    While there are a lot of really cool things in this RV it is unfair to compare it to your old existing/sold RV. Two different class levels in my opinion.

    • @GetawayCouple

      We thought so too at first but they come in at a comparable cost (130K-150K) and both target the luxury fifth wheel market.

    The door stops are better installed on the hinges as opposed to the floor

    Holy cow, is that 50 feet long? lol. Love the rig, my only concern would be the kitchen appliances getting beaten to heck by being in the tail.

  • @nathanurick8320
    @nathanurick8320 2 роки тому

    Ok please don’t get mad at me but you can’t compare this rig to a solitude. This rig can only be compared to something like a DRV. I loved your solitude and I also love my solitude. If I was will to spend close to spend $175,000.00 I would definitely look at this. These units are extremely beautiful and very well built. They are also very heavy and for sure require at least a one ton dully. I have a friend that pulls his with a Ford F-350 dully and he claims it’s a little bit of a struggle now. His is 3’ longer. There just isn’t any comparison between this and the solitude you just sold. Apples & oranges.

      Just looked and there are 2022 Solitude 390K listed for $140,628 on RVTrader while this model is listed for $139,999.

      @Jarvis Sloghan Jarvis do your homework on riverstone. They have the same wall thickness as DRV and there isn’t a solitude in this world with that wall thickness.

      Looks like new on RV Trader is between $130K and $150K. If you're shopping for a new RV though, I recommend checking out our negotiation tips: www.getawaycouple.com/negotiating-the-best-rv-price/

    An awesome floor plan for sure, but on a rig of that size/weight I'd really like to see triple axles, for starters. Floor registers are also a deal breaker for me, impossible to keep clean and limit owner area rug choices as well as being vulnerable to critter/insect invasion. I also have to agree with other commenters about the 1/2 bath doorstop in the stairway path, recipe for disaster; also electrical panel being unaccessable with slide in. Bed side tables could have been extended to the perpendicular walls instead of leaving that little 4"x4" "alcove" of unusable space next to both sides of the bed. Lastly, also a bit skeptical of the inside/outside kitchen trash feature. I like the concept, but would like to see a fully molded/seamless surround there like was done in the wet bay (with a slightly sloped bottom to a covered drain outlet, so it could be hosed out and cleaned from time to time), also a trash container that better filled the space, reducing the inevitability of trash missing the receptacle. Some ideas to possibly pass on to Forest River: would be nice to have a bath/shower combo option in front cap, also a window in front cap w/automotive quality glass and blackout/privacy shade, there was a Keystone Montana front bath model a few years ago with this option, was on my personal shortlist, as I enjoy a nice hot soak in a tub from time to time (back issues). Also, I didn't see a rear bumper, which would be nice, but maybe that's an optional add-on? And at this price point, standard slide out trays in basement storage would be nice as well. Great walk-thru, very nice rig!

    Feeding a 50A cable through that door hole will be a nightmare, especially when cold. I bet you eventually never thread it through the hole, due to the difficulty. That reel to wind up the 50A cable looks too small also. The best method to exit the cord is using a slot on the bottom of the door so you don't need to feed that honkin connector through a hole. FR didn't put enough thought into the electrical cord and reel setup, IMO.

    Absolutely love the river stones except the carpet in the slides. I really don’t understand why some less expensive forest river models eliminate the carpet but top of the line river stone does not. A luxury rig like this should NOT have carpet, deal breaker for me. Other that that they are fantastic.

      Because they don't want to put vinyl that snaps and breaks. I said other lesser quality RVs have sheet vinyl that looks like it wouldn't break, Riverstone says it doesn't hold up.
