Those that know me know that ever 13th July I take the day off and I spend all day (and night) watching Live Aid. This year was more special as I had one of my best friends with me and we did the whole 16 hours in real time and we even used the Radio Times from that week as reference for when we needed to get supplies.
Anyhow, when it came to the moment that Phil Collins spoke to my pal Steve Blacknell all you could really hear was static and noise.
I had a go with an AI website called wondershare media IO that had a noise removal plugin to see if I can make anything work. Now its not amazing by any stretch of the imagination but it gives you a way better idea what was said over the Atlantic just over 39 years ago.

Great video - this takes me back a long way indeed! Well done on this! Mark.
Excellent Matthew.
After 39 years we finally get the gist of what they were talking about live from Concorde back in 1985.
Imagine what technology will be available in another 39 years. It may actually sound like a studio recording.
Thank you for doing this 👍
well I am sure there are AI experts out there than can do way better than me, but it is a great concept to see how we can find out things. I have a recording of my first ever gig, but you hear someone talking all over it, and now we are at an age where it could be possible to remove all that chatter!
i remember Richard Skinner doing the original opening announcement. Loved RS. He did the top 40 for a while then migrated to Capital. This is my teenage radio years. An exclusive moment in time because other generations will never have that.
Richard Skinner was a superb broadcaster As well as the Top 40, Live Aid Saturday Live and everything else. shame he retired early.
Live Aid was an op... not for the nobble cause stated. Thanks, great we can actually hear and somewhat make out what Phil and others said.
finally after 39 years we still don't understand nothing
I never said it was perfect, but we hear a lot more than we did at the time.
Pamela Stephenson, not Miranda Richardson.
Yep me bad
I'd have tried Izotope RX first.
Well I don't have that and it is rather expensive, I just tried something as a concept, and as it goes, to be able to make sense of something that for 39 years was just a load of white noise, I feel is pretty good.
