I've only watched 12 minutes of this video and love how urban & beautiful Melbourne is! Greetings from Florida! :)
+Bob Dreamzzz It's a nice city. I don't thibk Florida would be half bad either!
@@Schony747 It could be a hell of a lot better if you remove all these damn car parks on tram streets and cut half the trams stops to speed up journeys and get people out of their cars!
Schony's Melbourne Trams Cab View's are the Best!
Thanks for riding.
Fantastic video!! Thank You! Melbourne is a beautiful city with an amazing transport system.
hyiemgoingtosanextweekwithmymumiwellbegoingonthertramstoseewotthayarlike
excellent footage of the best tram network!
Thanks for checking it out.
Thank you so much! We are moving in Melbourne in April, and it is really interesting to see streets of this beautiful city:)
It's a unique view isn't it! Lots of people share similar thoughts.
Schony747 these tram videos are awesome!!!! just watching them to music tracks is great! thank you for the vids!!!!!
I reckon they would sound awesome with some indi pop music running in the background.
+Schony747 well i use fl studios and created my own cool beats to listen too, but indi pop might be nice too!
WOOOOW thank you SOOO much for sharing this! My Region of Waterloo in Canada is getting a tram network this year, I hope it turns out like Melbourne's. Such a pleasant experience you have posted.
+Rejean Rivard Thanks. I don't know where Melbourne would be without it's trams. The newer networks being built have better features than Melbourne. But the new ones are also purpose built and not 100+ years old like ours.
Thank you very much. Once I find a bit more time I will watch all of them, and I hope you will find some time and do more...
Medo Adelaide I've got a few more to publish otherwise it's a case of if I get a chance to drive the route, then I can film it.
Great video!!, It has been up for 5 years and since i watch this channel a lot i can't believe i haven't been recommended this video before
This looks so much like Toronto to me! It's amazing that an Australian city can look so much like a Canadian city, considering the climate is so much different!
I don't know Toronto. I know they have trams!
This! I was thinking also how similar parts of the area are to many english towns/citys
@Torontopia Melbourne is in the cool climate zone. No snow in winter, but it can get very cold and lots of rain. That is why the vegetation might look more Nordic than tropic. Plus the suburbs in the east are old middle class areas with a lot of English architecture influence. The video was made in July, mid-winter.
Terrific video. Thanks for the upload. Makes me homesick for my old home town and looking forward to returning soon. This is actually the first time I've 'ridden' on the extension from Union Rd. to the new terminus since they extended the line in 2002. Like to see the Wattle Park route if you have it. That used to be my regular ride from Through Rd. to the Camberwell Junction. Love a dollar for every time I was on that one. Cheers.
+Jakartaman I remember when they built the extension and can't believe it's that long ago. I've got route 70. It will be uploaded in due course.
I bass boosted this with a chrome extension and I like to play it at max volume on my computer to try and annoy people. Anyway the video was awesome and I love seeing D2 tram 5014 running route 31 at around 15:11 in the video.
Back in The day when Southbank ran Combino anywhere and everywhere!
Did it ever run route 30? Also, will route 59 and/or 75 have the new G-class trams when they come out?
@@Schony747 I have a ton of questions to ask. Would you mind if I asked a lot of them to u?
An old favorite, Brenden.
Thank you driver
+mrpuniverse2 Thanks
I like this camera angle
Thanks 😀😀
Here from Yorak Hunt
I had to look up what that meant. It's a funny channel.
I’m on the 109.
Awesome!
I forgot how much of a blight the ATO building is on the Box Hill skyline!
I wasn't aware it was the ATO. Unfortunately it's happening everywhere these days.
Hahahaaaaaa you can’t even see it now 7/2023!! Surrounded by taller high rise apartments!!
Great video, here is the "perfect" German translation: Deutsch - Melbourne Straßenbahnlinie 109 von Port Melbourne nach Box Hill über die Bridge Road Umleitung in Richmond. Der Normalbetrieb läuft über Victoria St, North Richmond . Dies ist eine Samstag mittmorgen Tour in einer Alstom Citadis C1 Bahn. [Willkommen an Bord]
Thanks. When I'm on my PC I'll adjust the translation.
I suppose one day we won't be able to view videos like this unless we swipe on our Myki! ;)
No auto top up on my tram either 😀😀
Do any Melbourne lines have turning loops? Also, there are some 'driver view' vids from the Sofia BG system:)
No turning loops in Melbourne just end to end running.
Last time I travelled on Rt 109 the line stopped at Union Road!!!!!!
That would have been over 15 years ago!
Same here. About 30 years since I rode on a Melbourne tram, and just over ten years since I rode on one of their trains.
1:06:10 "Kamikaze" on track !
Yep. I regularly come across those muppets!
Seems a bit hazardous at 13:00, stopping right across the path of oncoming trams. So if you want to turn right, you have to pull over to the left and wait? Curious.
+AndreiTupolev They are known as hook turns and they now have a marked lane so drivers know where to sit and wait to turn. I believe they were put in place to help trams flow through and not get held up. They are curious to Melbourne and make sense when you get used to it
@@mrpuniverse2 You more or less pull to the left then turn right with the change of lights.
Nice. You should consider recording in 360 Degrees. Would be nice to be able to look around rather than straight ahead all the time. It'd be like really being there.
+echelon2k8 That's true but my video camera isn't wide angle. I've got a go pro so might give that a go when I work out how tibiae it. Anyway I'm glad you like like others are enjoying the view.

Spoilt.
like video Schony747 :)
Thanks for riding with me 😀😀
I wonder if they are ever planning to extend the line?
The line to Port Melbourne won't be extended. If anything there will be a branch towards Fishermans Bend at some stage.
Schony747 I think I meant the other end. Thanks for your reply though.
Nerdy question- at 23:05 you turn and cross points set for the other track, can you just shunt the point across by the trams momentum?
Shunting across by momentum is correct for the trailing points. It would apply to most situations like that across the network.
What is the serial number of this C1 ? It wouldn't be 3011, the champion "de-railer" of 2013, 2016, 2019, … 2022 next … ?
I'd have to look it up. Couldn't be 3011. I stayed on the tracks 😀
@@Schony747 The derailment site of 06 October 2019 is at 52:43 on the right, the beige brick pier construction with iron rod panels, just before the white timber paling fence. 340 Cotham Rd. Kew. It didn't help 3011 to travel down hill. Lucky outcome, it could have been worse ...
me:where does box hill have trams
me again:oh there is a random street i know thta place and saw it
Collins St, Victoria St. The list goes on mate
oh me BYEE
Do you find it awkward at times that passengers can view you from behind the cab due to the see through glass on these Citadis Trams?
It's not a problem at all. I'm looking ahead and in my mirror so don't even notice it or think about it to be honest
Ha Route 109 takes 1:09.4 hours to complete!
Longer going the other way if you get stuck at Cotham Road and High St.
+Schony747 whats your preferred tram to drive? I know all the models so don't worry I'll know which one your talking about!
+Schony747 just one last question mate, The A,B and Z class trams have pedals instead of sticks to control the speed right. I know that they are some of the older trams in the fleet and that every time I've looked in the cabin I can't see any sticks but I've noticed pedals. Just wondering if you could clear this up for me.
A, B and Z's are pedal control. C, D and E are all hand control with variations on each control but essentially the same principle. The W, they are a piece of work on their own. 1920's technology with both hands in use
That tram stop at QPO/Cotham Rd #34 should be removed. It's too close to the previous Kew Shops stop. It's a safety hazard in peak hour when all the cars are banked up. The tram accelerates then has to break suddenly if passengers want it.
I'd suggest a better stop would be further up at Derrick St/ Cotham.
The stop could probably go altogether to be honest. It doesn't really serve any purpose and doesn't connect with anything.
Tramm depot 5:15 which trams route do u like e the most
And do u help peoples in wheelchairs On the low floor tram's
Southbank is my home depot. I still like the B2 class tram. All wheelchairs help themselves on and off.
Have u done driver views on the airport west route
good one, why did this route divert from the normal route?
covoflyingace From memeory track work at North Richmond.
@@Schony747 This was most likely the work to construct a third track at Victoria Gardens. The present day route 12 would diverge to this track and the driver would change ends to return to St Kilda.
Are Melbourne trams fitted with horns? The horn at 22:56 (as well as another earlier in the video) sounds like it's from the tram?
Alstom Citadis are fitted with a synthetic gong and a horn. Bombardier E Class synthetic gong and a horn, Combino Gong and all others a normal gong.
As we have Alstom Citadis here in Adelaide, I noticed the car like horn the other day when I was at a Stop. I had never heard it before so I was surprised. Do you know what that is for?
It's just a secondary warning device to be used with the gong.
+Schony747
Okay. That’s good. I like the gong on Alstom Citadis
Are they generally always the lower trams that run on this route? The disability friendly trams?
+Clarrisani When these were introduced in 2001 they were the first low floor tram for Melbourne. Route 109 was also the showcase route back then. Low Floor Trams with some new platform stops to see what could be achieved for accessible public transport. To this day the trams run on the 109 and it's mainly a low floor service with the higg floor A class making an appearance as well. Low floor trams now also operate on routes 11, 19, 48 and 96 and various routes along Swanston St.
Did u drive this? If so do you like the C1?
I did drive it. The C1 is not my favourite tram but I'll still drive it.
Do any other Australian cites have a good tram system??
All major capital cities had major tram cities. Even in the smaller regional cities such as Ballarat, Geelong and Bendigo had trams. These days Adelaide and Sydney are the only other cities that have comercial tram cities. The systems are small but like many European cities are expanding their networks.
How much is the fare and how is it paid?
The fare structure is based on zone one and zone two. Zone one covers the whole network trains, trams and buses. Zone two is slighty cheaper as ther zone is smaller. MYKI is the smart card and has to be prepurchased before boarding public transport.
depends how far you travel and if you have a concession. usually a couple of dollars
MYKI is a slick idea, buy your card, touch on, touch off. But you should read some of the online discussions about it. Like any electronic device that's given hard use, apparently it doesn't always work, and the "compliance police" may be most unsympathetic. The fines for noncompliance are substantial. Still, it sure beats needing to put the correct change in a coin box as I had to do many years ago here in the US!
What route does take u to ivanhoe
Elatham / Hurstbridge Metro Train to Ivanhoe. No trams run out that way.
why was it diverted?
No idea mate. It was 8 years ago now.
@@Schony747 oh ok nw
Do you remember what tram number this is?
No idea sorry.
What trams & routes do work
Are you asking whaty trams I drive?
Schony747 yes
+Dallel Assaad I'm a Southbank driver. So A class, C2, E class and City Circle W. Routes 12, 30, 35 and 96. I do venture out to other places from time to time.
Brenden, at 7:08, what type of tram is that?
+Michael Hill We all agree the Combino is still the best of the low floor tram.
if that was anyone but little old lady (1:06:11) there would bells and horn, no care for mankind
So you are a tram driver? Is it true that the East Preston depot is getting Eclass trams because I saw a operational one today on route 11? Also have you driven one? Is it nice?
Jacob bosi E Class started rostered service June 21st for route 11 out of East Preston. I've been driving the E Class for 18 months and they do have some very nice features.
Nice! How many will route 11 receive? Also is there anyway to do work experience for next year at yarra trams?
I'm not sure of the final number. I don't think Yarra Trams does work experience but I know Metro Trains does.
OK thank you, do you know how I can get involved in the work experience?
Ring Metro or organise it through your school.
Are the Trams standard gauge?
+Busman500 Train,Tram and Bus videos Yes the current network is broad gauge. The old VR trams from the 1950s was broad gauge.
+Busman500 Train,Tram and Bus videos Yes the current network is broad gauge. The old VR trams from the 1950s was broad gauge.
That's correct. It's a pity the VR tram network was closed.
I believe that the Melbourne rail network is also broad (irish) gauge, am I correct?
Yes.
May I know the street name at 54:56?
+Ayesha Hameed I'm not sure the street yku are referring to. If it's the large intersection that the tram crosses over, it's Burke Road near Camberwell.
+Ayesha Hameed........Hi Ayesha...... i may be a little late but that is Cresswick Street, Deepdene.........
Makin' me bloody HOMESICK! Shithead!! ;)
+Peter Taylor Well you will have to come back and visit. 😁.
