New to the channel? I do Let's Play videos -- these are like walkthrough guides of gameplay with continuous English commentary trying to explain my decisions and what strategy I use. If you're looking for hacks or cheats, you're in the wrong place!
It's funny that stonehenge has to be built next to stone - because the real stone henge is made of stones brought from miles and miles away - it's one of the mysteries of the place, why did people put so much effort into moving the stones so far?
Why do people believe in so many different religions with very little proof?
Why do people go around insulting each other without reason?
Why do we kill each other over things that will be forgotten in a hundred years?
Why are so many humans stupid?
The site is a graveyard, with evidence of mass killing, so it possible it was a temple with human sacrifice or some other form of spiritual killing. It can also be a monument for a battle.
Shane M
If something as amazing as stonehenge is ascribable to human stupidity - then, let's have more stupidity!
Celestina If you think there is anything clever about stonehenge then thank you for reinforcing my point.
Shane M
"its design includes a celestial observatory function, which might have allowed prediction of eclipse, solstice, equinox and other celestial events important to a contemporary religion"
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stonehenge#Function_and_construction
Not only that, archaeologists *still don't know* how people with only primitive technology built it. You don't seem to be that knowledgeable about how amazing stonehenge actually is, both in engineering skill and early measuring of time through celestial observance
I love those graphics way much more than the last game.
+Drunken Hobo You must be 10 years old kid, go play cod
Nah, m8, the joke's that he's acknowledging that it's an opinion, but still disagreeing with it.
Same, especially like the new fog of war mechanic.
Okay then.
FinRanomness I'm really interested to see what FoW looks like in Strategic, since I only ever play in that view.
England is in Australia huh looks like Brexit went further than anyone thought :P
genius!
Lol after Brexit the british isles slowly float towards Australia, leaving Ireland behind.
natester155 And Scotland :P
scotland is in the biritish isles
Justin Reynolds-Lohani Yeah but Scotland wanted to stay in the EU so thats the joke...
The Stonehenge mechanic is real dumb considering the stones were moved there from a quarry in wales 160 miles away.
My thoughts.
but he dosen't hhave a quarry 160 miles away
no but he has to build it next to the quarry on flat land when in reality its nowhere near the original quarry and its on hilly terrain
well, each tile in civ is actually a lot of distance. civ 5 where about 1000 if I remember right, so carrying stone that far would be ridicules.
well, each tile in civ is actually a lot of distance. civ 5 where about 1000 if I remember right, so carrying stone that far would be ridicules.
When i saw the screenshots, i didn't like the art style, but the map look is a nice contrast to the vibrant colors and catoony art style. So it actually works.
Artstyle looks great now that its finally in motion
I like the art style on the map itself a lot. But I am still REALLY not a fan of the art for the leaders. They look way too much like Civ Rev.
The leader artwork is not really that great for me; I'd rather play Civ 5 just for the leader pics.
I really despise these graphics, but maybe it's just a case of getting used to it.
na na na na na na na
Yea, but it really looks like it's from like 2000. But we'll get used to it. Hopefully.
Dammit Mangs, don't be one of THOSE people.
"looks like it's from like 2000" what are you talking about? would love you to elaborate
i think its more of a case of them trying to make a game that ages well, civs modding is not in graphics
victoria looks like quill lol
Don't insult Quill please :P
Quill is indeed, a glorious queen.
I'm more of a pretty princess, really.
Princi Pesa if this was Italian Ambition
Actually to me she looks like a female human shrek. DONKEY!
People will definitely take Cleopatra saying she is Isis way out of context
Only in title to appeal to the working class.
Has there been some sort of popular UA-cam video out right now that's disseminated this knowledge about "Hitler and Nazism being liberal" or something? I've been seeing posts like this for a while now. People seem to be sprouting this mindlessly like hipsters to seem smart without understanding what fascism even means in the first place. I've seen people go on about it without understanding how the classic right-left dichotomy works, so I'm a little suspicious that a movement is brewing around here on the internet again.
There's been a popular book about this released about eight years ago called "Liberal Fascism" among others, so it seems unlikely that so many people have magically started reading 500+ page books all of a sudden, getting the same, watered-down idea.
+Tana hitler wasnt a liberal at all wtf are you talking about? fascism = far right
***** uh, what? how does this make you right? you didnt try defending your argument you just said "oh yeah well youre an ass >:("
+Tana Yeah because that's why Hitler hated Communist right? And the Nazi Party were conservatives. Where did you even get your facts?
I think the cloud fog of war looked better than the map sort of fog of war
Agreed.
Yeah, somehow the "paper" looks claustrophobic and invasive, like it's closing in on the visible parts.
The clouds ain't fog of war, it's the darker terrain that was in the fog of war, the clouds were inexplored areas.
Yeah, I really dislike the graphic for the territory that you have explored, but don't currently have vision of.
I would be fine with the map fog of war if the undiscovered areas were a diffrent color, or at least a non-similar tint of beige
Quill! Look out for Iceland! They can be a hassle early game for England
Not sure if euro 16 joke or not
Not sure if he's really not sure
I don't know what everyone's whining about, the graphics look fine.
+Edward Goodman this is pre release.
which means that the only things that are really changed are numbers, ui tweaks and bug fixes. Its very rare for a game to massively remodel their game close to its release
This is probably intentional. Civ V was quite demanding when it was released in 2010, they want this game to be scalable.
The graphics are garbage. Too cartoony
I don't get why people talk so much about the graphics, for me gameplay will always be #1. Dwarf fortress looks like shit too but that it's a really good game.
number one thing that I care about in Civ 6 is that the AI actually works. I know its way early, but how has the AI been holding up?
Yeah, I see how they improved AI while they still have buttons that dont even work. Also why would you improve AI If you can make higher difficulty with AI getting ever more ridiculous bonuses?
The Citystate A.I seem to have gotten a lot better as I saw a spearmen from Jerusalem attacking an encampment a bit away.
If they improve the AI they can make those rediculous bonuses less rediculous.
@randombanana That would be perfect, but thats fantasy. It's 2016 and developers still aren't able to/dont have resources/time/dont want to program AI that would do smart tactics. Quill even said, that he usually dont even try to build any wonders because AI's are almost guaranteed to beat human player. And I guess for a long time it still would be like: Give AI insane bonuses, so that only way to defeat it is to find loophole that AI don't know how to react and abuse it. Multiplayer with other humans is the only way to get fair game.
Zh00c3q I know, i played Civ5 for about 500 hours. Usually play on immortal, wich is easy enough when you know what stuff to abuse. But i really couldn't be bothered to learn Deity, it's not like it's that challenging anyway once you know the loopholes.
I really like the character models they went with. Cleopatra looks like she's right out of a pixar movie.
+Mr Cuddlesworth
Civ has never been grimdark serious - all of Sid Meier's games have been humorous.
+Mr Cuddlesworth Well, it'll probably still have big wars and nukes. Although I'm not liking the weird comic booky special effects when units fight against each other, even though the combat animation is still better than in Civ 5.
+Mr Cuddlesworth excuse me, Pixar can be really serious. Relating to the game, the art style is much more appealing to the eye, they are not pandering to their established player base, they want to catch the eye of new players.
+McZidanne same with games like minecraft, csgo and many other games focused around gameplay are way larger than most tripleA. the ones focused on visials and being the sucsessor in their series, while only having better graphics.
Alpha Centauri was humorous?
I hope there will be a visuals mod to make it look a bit more realistic.
Probably not :)
That sucks. Also: Why are there theese cartoony explosions when fighting? That's just stupid.
People will make mods to fix that shit for sure
It's not impossible.
+Schlickfitten because the civ series caters to more casual players in comparison to other games
Still not a fan of the art style, but the mechanics look solid and fun.
you just have to get use to it
or maybe by complaining firaxis and 2kgames know we dont like graphics meant for a 3yr olds colouring book?
That's just because we are not used to it, we have played civ 5 for what? 6-7 years? We will get used to it over time.
Your Neighborhood seagull
or maybe cus it looks terrible and that it belongs in a 3year olds colouring book....
Or maybe just maybe, people have differing opinions. I don't mind it too much, as long as they still have depth in gameplay.
Art style makes it look like a mobile game.
10/10 original comment.
I remember people saying the same thing when Civ V was released.
that's bullshit civ v looked much more realistic than this piece of shit
+Dan South Really? I simply pointed out the art style looks like a mobile game. Where did I base the entire game around this...
Dan South
Sorry about that then
Oh fun, they finally made Civ into a mobile game!
CIV Revolutions anyone?
I've got Civ Rev on the PS3, my first experience of Civ. Not bad for a console civ-type game but still rubbish compared to Civ 5.
Microtransactions would fit so seamlessly into that UI
Yeh, same for me, but I had more fun with Civ revolutions to be honest... There was something about that game that made me want to play until the end, whereas with civ 5 I would just be like 'eh' after one session and never reload the save... maybe I just got spoiled by watching too much of quill18 playing it
+theomorphical I got Civil Revolution for my DS and it was my first experiment. I haven't played in a while but it was a really fun game. I remember the first time I played it: My neighbor was Gandhi and I said to myself, "Oh, well he was historically a nice, peaceful leader. This will be fine!" Nope. He went full genocide mode and we broke out into a 3000 year war in which my last city, Paris, was nuked.I had fun playing it for years after that.
The Stonehenge thing is unrealistic. The stones were lugged from many many miles away (I forget the exact number) So it's actually the opposite, Stonehenge shouldn't be next to stone.
You're worried about realism in a game where you can be nuked by Gandhi, and be attacked by stealth bombers from ancient Rome.
Way to ignore the whole Alternate history aspect, Mercado.
That's my point Civilization never had 100% accurate history.
+Michael Mercado Lol. Well, I'm sure that Italy has stealth bombers, and I'm also fairly sure that India has nukes. That part makes at least quasi-sense.
i think they want to prevent wonder rushes thus the mechanic is placed i could be wrong
Love the fog of war map art style!
When's Civ VII out?
Late October
Whooosh!
iirc 21 oct
Am I the only one who thinks he is joking? He's asking about Civ VII, not VI.
Maybe he counts beyond earth lol
I liked Civ5 more in terms of the visual style. I understand what they were going for with this, I just don't really dig it.
I'm guessing you don't dig overwatch then?
+Isaac Rivera jesus you are salty about other people's opinions.
+VintageLJ What? I just told him I disagreed smh.
Isaac Rivera Overwatch is fine. You can't really compare those two games, that's two completely different genres. This "Settlersy" kinda style just isn't it for Civ IMO.
+Isaac Rivera no, Overwatch looks like a Pixar movie. THIS looks like a kindergartener designed the art style
I really like the FoW effect being an old map texture, it's pretty cool really
Look at 1:58. "Continent: Australia". Really? That's sort of gamebreaking, imo. Usually I can figure out what continent I'm on in maybe less than 100 turns, but I don't want it given away to me.
It's a random map though, the name is just flavor
Oh.
Too soon ? nah, too late pal
is it random? im looking at the land Quill is on, and it really does look like Australia, just smaller
Алина Старковa (Alina Starkova) 2nd Account
Having watched some more episodes, it does look like Australia. I thought it was random because the continent is way to far south to be Australia.
But I would suspect continent names still be generated on random maps for flavors and some clarity to easily spot to witch continent an island belongs to, since some unique abilities do thing on the home continent.
I like the subtle hovering of the cursor over the salt resource when someone else built Stonehenge
wow, Quill outside his natural element.. eh I'll pick this up at a Steam-sale.
If it's anything like the other civ's they're gonna leave out half of the content till the next 2 expansions anyway.
developer have previously stated this is most fleshed out base game they have ever done only thing currently missing is the world congress
Scott Fordham
I'll believe it when I see it!
I love the mechanic that you are way more limited to when, where and how to build wonders, buildings etc. From a 'storytelling' POV it makes it more interesting to create diverse cities.
Too bad it will probably be better to wait for an expansion or two before playing the game.
Looks already better then beyond earth after dlc/expansion imo
+mal doran we dont speak that name around here
+Sergeilol What? Beyond Earth? I wish people'd get over their animosity already. It's not a bad game, just not the game you were expecting.
+Tairneanach if you never played Civ 5 then it wasnt bad, but it just felt like a 60€ reskin
*****
I did play Civ V, and I didn't think it was a reskin. Even less so since the expansion. Certainly this isn't a case of an iteration of a series so bad it can't be mentioned.
As a diplomatic victory type player the idea of having the ability to control City State units is incredibly awesome!
I have to admit, i prefer civ 5 leader portraits than the ones showed on civ 6.
+Quill- This new version looks good, a ton of changes for sure, but looks good. I'm also glad to see the return of the Quill classic "what could possibly go wrong?" I haven't been hearing your main catch phrase nearly enough this year.
How come there's no "Will you build a civilisation that will stand the test of time?" D:
Very Nice! Hey, thanks so much for this upload!
I understand the new design direction considering the nature of the game and it's history, but I really did love the sharp and realistic engine of CIV5. Very disappointed they didn't bring that back but im sure the game will be fun regardless. Oh well.
i think its good that they made something different not just a copy of civ 5
Atleast they DO make something new and not like all the other big titles (CoD and BF for example) who just make a reskin of their older games every time.
You can say a lot about the civ series, but you can never say that they don't change mechanics all the time, making every civ different.
Let's hope this one is the best one yet! ^_^
At least your tone (excited like a child) tells me you were having fun, which is a start.
(Also, I am not envious at all right now, Quill. Nope. Not at all.)
Love you!
Can't wait for the rest of the series!
Civ2 is still the best Civilization
truee
best advisors for sure
Only played them from 3 onwards. With that in mind Civ IV is an almost perfect strategy game(and not dumbed down in any way).
yes! I only came to the later CIVs because they had an active modding community.
***** I know! You could even colonise another planet in the same game.
man, that animation for Cleopatra is beautiful. very impressive stuff from Firaxis.
I really don't like this new, more cartoon-ish style they've went with.
I think you're with the majority of civ players on this.
Civ II looks less cartoony than this!
Saying that- I do like the graphic effect used for revealing the map. Novel compared to the same old FOW.
grammar intensifies
looks nice to me. But Civ players are still bitching about how Civ V ruined Civ or something. It's just like how magic the gathering players would keeping crying each set about how the new set ruined magic. Magic was ruined many many times according to them. I played both Civ IV and Civ V and preferred Civ V. I figure this looks like more of the same. I will dislike some things and like other things, and I will simply adapt to the changes. I am just glad to see something new, because played Civ V enough times to no longer want to play it, so any change is probably good. I am mainly interested in whether Diplomacy will still suck, whether trades will still suck, whether there will be religion, what victory conditions there will be, etc. I especially wish the AI Civs would stop insisting on one sided deals. In Civ they almost never wanted to do fair deals on luxury resources and such. They kept changing Diplomacy and no matter what, AIs seemed a bit insane to me
I like and don't like it at the same time
I honestly don't like it either
Thank-you!!!!!!!! so much Quill18 you answered the question I have bin searching for so much and that is we don't need to be next to ocean to build harbors and boats. Thanks again keep doing what your doing love your work and fyi your the person that got me to start playing Civ in the first place. When I watched your Let's play England campaign in vanilla Civ 5. lol turns out I was just looking for some videos on England vs France videos for homework...and my life changed drastically 😁
I don't like the art style, but the mechanics look very solid so I think it'll be great.
Seriously tho it's a mobile game now
no it doesn't, it has much more detail than any mobile game in the market.
Point me to a mobile game with graphics like this one. Christ you people.
Fucking, it's a metaphor. The art style is that of a mobile game. The graphics, which explains the higher level of detail is NOT what I'm talking about. There's no doubt the graphics are good, I just personally dislike what they've done with the graphics
A terrible metaphor. There is no "mobile graphics artstyle" -- its just an artstyle.
+someguynamedpie a terrible art style. Civ V with it's realism was great. THIS is gaaaaarbage
After watching a few gameplay videos, the aesthetic is starting to grow on me.
I am thoroughly disappointed in their DLC bs this time around. Frankly this game doesn't look worth it at all currently. I recommend people wait for a sale and stick to the solid Civ 5 for a while longer.
how so it has more features than any other civ game at launch
Ehh.. no.
Devolper have already stated the only thing missing compared to civ 5 is the world congress this is the most fleshed out base civ game ever
They can promise the sky - But until actual reviews arrive, no one should trust anything they take fully. Just because a mechanic is present, doesn't mean it is actually fleshed out, or well designed.
Mansen Why so pessimistic? Just don't worry about if it comes out and it's bad then it's bad it's not the end of the world personally speaking every civ game has improved on the last this one seems to be all about choice information and how to react to the information.
I absolutely love how the fog of war looks like an aged map. I adore that look in strategy games.
not a fan of the new fog of war, keep thinking its undiscovered land at a glance
good to hear that trader unit will build roads now, Civ V had issues with workers trying claw their way to a new city. All and all good video mate! Excited!
I think it's kind of funny how people will bitch about this art style, then run off and play a game like, say, Rimworld lol
Art style aside (i like it), The graphics did get an update and overhaul and its nice to see it in motion.
I think you got it a little wrong. People are complaining because they are used to the art-style of say, Civ 5 in Civ games. That they do a complete 180 is bad form. They prefer realistic graphics for games of this sort, but they may , say, prefer more cartoony graphics for other types of games like Overwatch and TF2.
You comparison is pretty horrible.
xDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
comparing a game like rimworld which is a completely different genre than civ 6 really is not fair..
MÄN is that game ugly... Looks like a mobilephone game... *ugs*
indeed..
It's still 2-3 months from release. I would not be surprised at all if most of this is developer art.
+Bmobmo64 by 2-3 months away the art is finalized. pretty much everything is finalized and they are just trying to slam out bugfixes on major issues. source: familiar with game development cycles
Yes, because graphics are so important in civilization...
No, that's how it's going to look.
RIP CIV. :-\
Alex! Love your LPs ;)
So Adolf... I hate to ruin a bad comment. But eh... how can you say people are bitchy over the stupidest shit... when they haven't even expanded on what they hate?
Talk about bitching about bitching.
+Mansen Most people are bitching about graphics, I think that's where he's getting.
Isaac Rivera A perfectly valid complaint. If you look at basic comparison shots to older games, it is a significant change - and obviously not one that many agree with.
Hey Mansen! Yes, I think the graphics are more toy than strategy game. I also feel like they are just moving more and more away from what civ was originally. But that may just be me. Civ5 looked, felt and played like a console game, and this game looks to do the same.
Lots of people talking about the graphics. They look good to me. The civics and social policy sections are exciting to me. Definitely seem more robust. Can't say I like the movement cost changes. Perhaps there was some good thinking involved with that but right now it looks more cumbersome. Great upload quill! The first video I ever saw of yours was the deity diplomatic victory with Greece. I never would have thought it possible to win with that few cities. Well done!
I really dislike the cartoon style graphics. Otherwise, Civ 6 seems interesting.
And that is a terrible rendition of Queen Victoria.
A 25 minute video of Quill apologising was surprisingly entertaining 😂
From this video, I'm not sure I'm buying Civ 6. The graphics look bad to me, it's hard to see what's going on, resources, routes, etc. Add in the fact that movement is now atrocious, combat appears to be worse than ever, and starting locations determine if you can build a wonder which can change everything? Come on. And the "unique" abilities of civilizations sound anything but unique. One civilization gets extra combat strength on another continent (what if pangea?) vs another that gets the same bonus but on a different continent? Ugh, come on.
awesome play through thanks quill
I can't help but hate the Civ 6 art style
I was always that player that had like 10 City-State Allies at a time...
So pumped for this game!
This game seems to be pointless imo
the changes seem to be just for the sake of change
the graphics are a downgrade
the ui is still lacking nowhere near as good as UI mod for civ 5
AI probably gonna suck as always
this game is basically pointless
i don t see a reason to change playing civ 5 to play civ 6
there was big difference between civ 3 civ 4 civ 5
civ 6 seems like same game with different art style that is worse in my opinion
it has more mechanics than civ at launch so just wait for dlc
>complains about difference
>hails civ 5 for being different from the other games
Doug Rattmann civ 4 and civ 5 are very different games
civ 5 from civ 6
so far in everything i seen seems to be same same with a few stuff that people complained in civ 5 changed for better or worse we do not know and ui and graphics look worse then civ 5
i don t see why are people saying its easier to see titles it looks harder to see for me they are just same color
Well it's not meant to be a fun strategy game. It's meant to be a game that everybody and their mother(and their little kids now) can play and win on Emperor difficulty. What did you expect? I mean they're still using the Civ V engine....
UPLOAD ALL OF THEM IN ONE DAY! I WILL WATCH THEM ALL!
My God the game looks ugly af
I'm calling this vid a birthday gift and you can't stop me.
Damn that looks like crap. Really cartooney crap.
so is graphics everything to you
Honestly, if it looks cartoony, it will decrease my interest in the game.
+dawg you must hate pokemon, little big planet and etc then
I love these graphics. Everything looks very colourful, everything stands out. Definitely looks more interesting than the graphics present in Civ V.
I hope that there's a good Earth map from the start.
"Stonehenge has to be built near stone"
Some of the stones at the real Stonehenge came from 240 kilometers away.
Looks great! Thanks for sharing.
I like how they left the faint lines of the hexes..makes it much easier to count and plan
Seems like it's going to be a very enjoyable experience.
Love your Civ gameplays ; )
I hope they keep the "parchment" look for lands beyond the field of view! I like it!
Cheers, Ivan :D
oh I LOVE THIS ART STYLE :)))
Holy friggin friggidyfeck! CIV 6! Quill thanks so much
Historically teh really cool thing about stonehenge is that the stone in it came all the way from wales, not from the salisbury plain or it's environs.. basically what made it special is that it did NOT have stone adjecent.
This looks really good!
In the beginning you said that the new coastal cities in Civ 6 can build a harbor from 3 tiles away and are the new "coastal cities". It looks like we still need to settle cities right on the coast because the sailing tech boost did not kick in while you played. But I understand that ships could still be built. Also I don't understand how/why you can research 2 techs at once @16:55 you have both Mysticism and Sailing... I don't get it.Does the purple culture just get discovered in a linear fashion without any input? didn't notice you choosing mysticism in a civic tree. Open the civics tree lol not choose from the list. I apologize if I missed it.
I'm not a fan of the new graphics but I like the movement of the clouds
The stone used to build stonehenge was transported a huge distance to the actual site. That's one of the reasons people think it was built by aliens.
I remember Quill once said that sometimes people say that they hated a movie over things that he didn't even notice, and that such people must love being miserable. Seems very much akin to people complaining about Civ 6's art style.
Finally a gameplay!
Re. Improved resources vs unimproved resources... The civ5 strategy map view makes it easy to spot unimproved resources.
I had no idea a Civ6 was even on the way! Now I'm hyped for more civilization. Can't wait to have a global empire all over again.
Hi quill, I am following your let's plays for a while. A small suggestion for your videos: give your headlines also a little summary what's going on in the video (a few funny words as description). Otherwise good LPs - keep going on! Greetings from Germany (c:
promotions ending your turn will be really great for multiplayer
Man those early game drumstick military units looks hilarious
18:23 Rumour has it ? how does this work you have no spy's this early yet you are told what tech they are on. Does the AI or other players know what you are on tech wise through this 'Rumour mechanic'. Thanks for this Quill.
Ohhh boiii, let's start!
Good heads-up on the barbarian combat changes. Gonna have to think twice about sending those warriors out as crack scouts early on. That scout might be a pushover versus barb warriors and other units, but he'll get things done while exploring.
The graphics are beautiful. People just dislike change, which is understandable given the success of Civ 5
So pumped man!
Looking forward to civ 6
Really like the white background tool tips.
I'm super fond of the aesthetics! Colourful and clean.
The mechanics changes also look interesting. Looking like it will be a much better base game than Civ V was.
Were you able to hear Christopher Tin's Sogno di Volare? It's going to be the titular track. My luck it's probably under NDA, despite the performance in London :/
Weren't the stones for the real Stonehenge transported over a very long distance? So no, having to have stone nearby doesn't really make sense.
I want your life, sir. Well done. You deserve all the good things.
This game looks beautiful.
I actually really like the fresh new visuals. Looks good to me and it sets it apart from the previous game(s).
This hidden terrain map thing reminds me of Jon Shafer's At the gates.
the movement seems refreshing.
guy: i can't wait
me: yes you can
If you want to look at the new pantheons. Look at 7:27
Divine spark seems godlike
