New to the channel? I do Let's Play videos -- these are like walkthrough guides of gameplay with continuous English commentary trying to explain my decisions and what strategy I use. If you're looking for hacks or cheats, you're in the wrong place!
0:05 Still Sogno di Volare. That's all I needed to know. I'll definitely be getting this game for myself.
got that mod for Christopher tin as a great musician ^^
I find it immensely funny that a leader named poundmaker is trade-focused.
He does make pounds
dude was probably named after making buffalo pounds
You are correct. I'm from the same area, kind of neat seeing a local historical figure in this game.
Pro tip : watch movies on KaldroStream. I've been using them for watching lots of of movies during the lockdown.
I'm very much looking forward to this expansion. It seems to offer a lot that will improve the game immensely.
All civilisation games can only be judged after the expansions. I have high expectations for this civilization after the (at least) 2 major expansions.
Civ 5 was great after BnW and the community mod. Civ 6 will also do great after 2 expansions and the community mod. Vox populi FTW.
The music is sooo badasssss!!!
AWESOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
New Series + Civ 6 + Rise and Fall = Absolute Awesome-ness !!!!
Yessss, I can stop rewatching old Civ playlists!
"the one downside with our scouts is we don't get upgrades that give more attack strength" Actually, they do. Third upgrade you can get +20 combat strength.
In my experience, regular scouts don't live long enough to see their third promotion. Even with the unique scouts getting one for free, that isn't something that's going to happen any time soon.
Pixel Gemini I agree. unless you take the double exp for them, and play really safe it will be hard to get them there.
Yeah and it would still take a lot of luck because to actually take advantage of the double experience policy, it only works if you discover a new natural wonder with a scout or visit a goodie hut with a scout. Otherwise, you only get 1 xp per battle with a barbarian after your first promotion.
Easy, just build up an army of them early on and go to war with your neighbors. There's no cap on exp from other civs/city states. They're automatically better than enemy warriors since they have equal attack strength and can move through rough terrain, and will level up twice as fast as them too. I can see the Cree being really good at super early warfare unless they're up against the Aztec or some other civ with ancient era uu's
Oh boy, this is my first time seeing any civ game since beyond Earth and color me impressed
Thanks Quill, definitely need this
Poundmaker will be the first time I make any real use of scouts.
You can build harbours in lakes, it just doesn't usually make much sense, unless it's a large lake and you got other civs near it.
The Sandwitch Or you really need that extra trader.
That applies if you don't already have a commercial hub, which would be the better option.
The Sandwitch - do you build commercial hubs in cities without rivers? If I build a coastal city without a river, then I definitely avoid the commercial hub and focus only on the harbor - at least until later in the game if I have enough population then I'll add a commercial hub because yes Great Merchants are a lot better than Great Admirals.
You'd build a harbour in a lake before building a commercial hub just cause you don't have a river? That's silly
I do because I prioritize initial gains (district+adjacency bonuses) over long-term gains. I can gain gold with a harbor. And with the lighthouse I can even gain housing - which, since the city's not near a river, might be very necessary to keep it growing. I know I'm not the most strategic gamer out there, but I fail to see what's so silly about that strategy.
Edit - and just for clarification: I'd only build the harbor if it's adjacent to the city center as well so that it gives me at least +2 gold. Generally speaking I don't found cities that aren't on rivers and don't have good harbors. Then - later on after the harbor and after all the other important districts are in place and developed, I can get the commercial hub ... and if I can place that next to the harbor, it gets a +2 adjacency bonus even without the river.
Awesome! Really nice intro quill, love detailed explainations and considerations.
Keep it up
Thanks for letting us listen to Sean Bean. By the way, great video as always.
Really looking forward to playing this when it comes out!
17:50 AMBUSH WITH THAT SCOUT WILL BE EPIC
you CAN build Harbors in lakes
just fyi
There is also a wonder that does make desert tiles produce a new yield, cant remember on top of my head though
You have a few reefs on the coast
Have been playing CIV 6 since release on my horrible laptop. It is the individual reason I am saving for a MasterRace PC. This update is just motivating me :)
Quill18, I enjoy your videos. You're very good at doing what you do.
You can put harbours in lakes
Switching tile yields on allows you to see which tiles aren't improved ...
Poundmaker sounds fun to play as!
what? no, don't make a cut. 150 turn marathon video plz:)
Settling by the coast gives you access to the new reef improvements
love the nipple-hut unique building.
Hi quill. It is really earned, that you get a first peak. You are the Best Civ player I know.. Great Job.^^
Yea i subscribed for civ to.
Eh, skill wise he's okay, but as far as explaining how things work and helping people understand the game better he is above most.
You are right. And i think, thats the reason why he is so good, for me. ^^ He is a kind of mentor for me. he has nice and not annoying vioce. My wife thinks so too.
FilthyRobot used to be the best, but he has forsaken us :/
I also enjoy his reactions to getting wonder-sniped, if I have to be honest. I hope that never happens of course, but it's always an unforgettable moment should it come to pass.
wow you put them up all already go quill!
this guy is one of my favorite looking leaders so far
Seondeok is pronounced Sun-Duck. As in a solar mallard. The "eo" is the way the "uh" vowel in "Sun" is romanized (e.g. Seoul)
i wish developers would make a customizable civ, like choosing your own country or making you own leader with balanced set of abilities to pick.
Ohhh boi this is exactly the Civ I wanted to see
I still think getting Sean Bean to narrate is the best decision they’ve ever made
You, in fact, can place Harbors in Lake Tiles.
I wonder if it's a good or bad sign that my first thought on seeing that start was "Holy stone!" mere seconds before Quill said it?
This actually IS my first time on this channel, and I'm curious to see how it will go from here.
This is the first actual Cree gameplay I've seen, and I'm honestly a little upset they don't start with their unique recon unit instead of a warrior like the Shoshone did. But I guess that's probably because of the whole era score thing
This is the reason I bought the game. First time I’ll play as my nation
I just got done watching the Netherlands series, starting this one, would you get further if you lowered the difficulty?
Can't wait to pound Roosevelt into the dust with Poundmaker.
Do you have to buy tiles, or as you influence grows or whatever, do they become available? Also, do you have to use builders to make the bonus resource tiles benefitial?
Your Canadian nationalism knows no bounds.
if you get a religon, can you check if they have improved the passive spread of religon?
16:13
A new civ series woo!
I don't really get the appeal of the higher difficulties in Civ, why play the game if you can't play the whole game? I wanna build wonders and shit in civ personally.
Me too. However, some people (1) don't want to win so easily - like a bigger challenge (2) might not want others to think they're afraid of taking on the hardest difficulty ... or something I guess I only have two ideas.
Andrew Sercer But the game isn't really more challenging on higher difficulties. It's straight unfair as AI cheats & gets bonuses you don't.
Quill wouldn't find any challenge on the lower difficulties, so playing on Immortal or Deity is more fun. Both for himself and for us viewers.
On lower difficulty most players vs AI would wind up getting damn near every wonder, outtech them by ages, and generally be bored with the game due to how far behind they AI winds up being.
LeonidasOlympia I don't know what you think "challenge" means. Yes, it would be more interesting if the AI was actually smarter and made better (more, hmm, *strategic*) moves, but in this case, even though all they get is a head start, it is still more of a challenge to catch back up.
In this case, I think the higher difficulties actually detract from the Civ experience, since most if not every single AI will denounce you within 2 turns of meeting you since you're so far behind. Therefore, you do not get to experiment with the myriad of tactics and special features of the game since they are either not viable or simply not even available to a denounced civ.
While I technically "liked" this video because you do good work, and I enjoy supporting your channel, you should have built Stonehenge. :)
What's the faster combat mod called? The basic Quick Combat option is just too fast, there are no animations and feels like a gamble to combat.
How are you playing with enemies not having the difficulty bonus in combat?
In today's news, Quill plays as a Canadian, film at 11.
I’ve been so condition to click Begin Game when I hear the sound in the loading screen that I automatically clicked on it.
I love how apologetic he is for playing super duper hard mode instead of nightmare mode.
I wanna play it so much
Shhh when I saw the Poundmakers introduction I thought the trade routes ability was 3 tiles from the border and not from the city. If it's 3 from the city them it's not as powerful as I thought it would be.
what is that squeak noise at 17:50???? it sounds adorable
Lucky! You get to play RnF! Well, I guess I'll just have to watch
YESS! Been waiting for this! Hopefully Rise & Fall can actually make Civ VI "good"
It's already good?
Subjective. I didn't like it
civ V is always been better
Robbe Vanooteghem No not really, although that is also subjective.
why not? not offencive couse i respect your opinion
Best we are going to get for a Canadian civ I guess
Turn 27 would have been a great time to buy a slinger and kill the scout for the Archer Eureka
Nice. I think ill keep my gnbots running though
Hi quill18. Love your videos, but why do you use the quick animations?
I can't speak for Quill but I think once you've seen the animations once or twice they're just a big waste of time to keep them on.
Can you move traders like any other unit? Bcs if so, i think it's possible to just move the trader around your city to claim tiles. which saves buying them.
Nope, traders follow preset routes to the receiving city, which you can see when choosing where to send the trader. It is still a great ability, as it can help you claim a lot of land if you build your cities close together.
Yay more Civ :D Hi quill
why do you spend the time fighting with your scout, instead of Scouting? You could find so much more.
I don't understand how they can put Civ 6 on an IPad but not on Xbox X or PS4 Pro
Touch screens emulate traditional mouse input a lot better than a game controller. My first Civ game was actually Civ Revolution on the Xbox 360, and while it's certainly possible to play Civ with a controller, it isn't really the best way to play it. I would say, if you want to play Civ 6, just get a damn PC!
Biggest reason I can think of is that the iPad has the touchscreen, allowing for less UI redesign than it might take to adapt Civ to a console UI and being controller-friendly. If it was just about processing power I'm sure it'd already be playable on every modern console.
Silver Fox quite simple really. Consoles are for game previews and ones that aren't fully made yet.
Pixel Gemini that's not entirely fair, if I were to buy a pc I would want a specific gaming pc or build my own to do the game justice on frame rates and so on. At least with a console it should already be built to play games and certainly ones of this calibre. Just look at ark and Jurassic world evolution there's a Bit of controversy I fear
Who's everybody's favorite new civ?
I look forward to eventually getting the whole shebang when it's no longer 120 bucks to get all the crap surrounding the game
How did you get a trial?
Jaffa, CREE!
Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Petra. Also, if you found the wonder sooner, you could of gone for a religion.
Armagaaered you got it early
Yess willemina i might buy civ now
Why don't they start with the special scout instead of the warrior?
I don't know. That would be cool if they did.
pontificate is a great 50cent word
So what happened to the free promotion on your scout
Never mind lol
Settle deeply and greedily!
I thought there was to be new resources as well?
Christopher Larkins there are
God, if he doesn't settle a canal city to the North I will be so goddamn TICKED OFF!
'it might break.' Well, the normal game is still broken, so why am I not surprised? :P
£maker, he makes money.
Hello Quill! I'm your fan from Georgia, and I wanted to ask you, will you ever consider playing Tamar for a livestream or a youtube content? Cheers from Tbilisi!
Elizbar Ramazashvili tamar looks very dark in the game. I thought Georgians were more pale
William Mills yes, that's my only problem with her in Civ 6. She was known to be very pale.
really?! I was taught that Tamar had black skin, damn
seriously not abusing the double exp to get uber ranger later why?
i wish i had a preview code. :C
Game and Map seed?
Lovely
Oh my, can't wait to make a franco-cree game and crush England :D New France FTW
Holy stone!
Just bought the Gold Edition
I Hope it was worth it XD
Wow-wow-wee-wah
I just happily play the game at King difficulty.
For years I played as Ghandi. Until Civ VI was released. Then it was Victoria. But it will be solely Cree in February. Unless the AI still doesn't use airplanes or navies. Then I will label this game endlessly broken.
Desert? Petra time!
My favorite part was how this isn't a live stream and didn't have the random loud annoying sound effects and fake fright reactions.
should have turn off the quick animation so we can see it!
Cool Red Indians.
Are they rebalancing the game? If you can still play as Alexander (or one of the other insanely OP civs) and roll over everyone, I won't even give the Civ 6 expansion a second look.
Hell yeah!
Seondeok 선덕 better pronounced as Sun Duck, which just looks silly
Civ VI felt a bit underwhelming or kinda held back for me as far as gameplay goes. Had to go back to Brave New World to get my Civ fix. Hoping this expansion improves the game.
PETRA!
ERMAHGYURD!
I never understood the appeal of higher difficulties in strategy games: The AI is just as smart or dumb as it always was, it just gets to cheat now
That starting area isn't that great. You want lots of camps or pastures. Their trade routes are insanely powerful, and your cities will grow large rather quickly. I"m thinking they are best suited as science, or possibly a score victory.
Your subs will ever forgive you if you don't Petra on a natural wonder :P
