The Starsky and Hutch car was from the good old days. Hearing the engine rev, tires squealing, shift kit, duel exhaust, blue printed engine, Elderbrock, Holly double pumper carb. This was a groovy time for cars.
It was a shock to discover a couple years ago in an interview with Paul Michael Glaser that Paul hated the striped tomato and he told then producer Aaron Spelling that he was going to smash that car up wow
74 torino correct, the Torinos that were used had factory stock engines, no real mods done to them... though, later on, for the high speed car chases and stunt driving in making that heavy large car move like a sports car, they used the much more powerful and more performance-like Cleveland/Windsor 400 and 460 ci. V8. The stock 351 was nice, but not enough 'guts' to make the Torino move faster.
Calgary Rambler true to say that Paul hated that car, totally opposite to his Torino-loving character, Dave Starsky. When he first saw the car, he told David Soul the first thing he was going to do to that car was drive it right into the curb or the side of some wall... He meant it, as some of the episodes you can see the car hit or scrape up onto a curb before coming to a stop. A stock Torino is already a heavy car to stop or control at a high rate of speed, but Paul probably didn't care when it got wrecked up... Made me and likely a whole lot of car enthusiasts cringe big time.
David Soul ended up living on a canal boat in London. I saw him, some years ago, whilst I was driving thru Soho. He was wearing a tuxedo, grabbing a cab with a somewhat gorgeous blonde on his arm!
This car trailer scene was in another episode I forgot which one but I remember they ordered food at a drive and park fast food delivery place but were as usual interrupted on a call and never ate, Stark left the waitress the money they left her standing with the food tray.
did anyone else notice just how close that Lincoln and came from hitting the rear of the Torino when they did that 180 in the middle of the intersection??? Got to be an inch or two..@ 1:17
The bit where Starsky ran over the bonnet (or hood, I'm British) at 1:48 was not scripted. Starsky did that on purpose showing his distaste for the car. This was from the pilot episode & in this he was wearing cowboy boots instead of his trademark blue trainers (sneakers, British again) he wore throughout the series, barring scenes when dressed formally or episodes when working undercover. The result was that dents were left on the bonnet (hood, yes, you know).
speak freeley fine then I will speak freely this is a North American show and in this country a bonnet is something that Little Bo Peep wears and trainers are people that help you actually train. American cars, American show, American people. So what the fuck.
+Jimiel Joseph “So what the fuck”?! What is YOUR BLOODY PROBLEM?! Engage your brain bloke! If you can not accept AND deal with the FACT that England existed before the United States, therefore some ENGLISH words are different in England, although meaning the same, than you need to piss off!! I am of the United States, have lived abroad, and COMPREHEND that there are English words that are different, yet MEAN the same thing. Allow the man his terminology and learn from it!
Yep you're right in an interview 2 years ago that was confirmed by Paul Michael Glaser the actor who played Starsky the one who ran over the hood of the car yeah he did hate the vehicle and the lines that his sidekick Hutch used calling the car red tomato and other lines like that were straight from the the words of Paul Michael Glaser himself so a very interesting little tidbit somewhere out here on UA-cam it's a video where Paul admits his distaste and dislike for the striped tomato
Yeh, a few weeks back I was watching the intro on DVD frame by frame where he runs over the bonnet. You can see where he leaves marks. re: bonnet @Jimiel Joseph yeh, i'm British too. Your post is pathetic. Tell Bo Peep about Red Riding *Hood* and GTFO.
Column shift 3 speed Automatic was the actual car. Why in chase scenes did it appear to be 4 speed manual. This is very noticeable in Savage Sunday episode.
+Steve Hillier In case you have not learned yet . . . . . . . . they also were made with a floor-shift 3 - speed automatic, and the show used them too.
The sound that the striped Torino made is a soundtrack that was added because the Torino was a stock 460 cubic inch engine with stock exhaust and was very very quiet and they couldn't get the sound that they needed so that's why the soundtrack was added to make it sound a little nicer
@@whiteribbonman1 according to Torino common Starsky and Hutch. Com all the cars were column shift in fact they started out using all bench seat cars but because in some of the scenes were Hutch slides into Starsky when they're going around the corner change was made to the interior of the vehicle and bucket seats were changed in so just a little tip and I thought I'd let you guys know and that comes from Paul Michael Glaser himself through a UA-cam interview that was posted a few years back
The only known time the Torino didn't have a column shifter is the ones that were used in the S&H movie remake... They had the more modern 3-speed automatic floor console shifter, which is noticeable in the climactic chase and ending scenes.
Besides the car and the actual stunt driving the best thing about this show was a lot of it was filmed right on locations in New York City and the part where Hutch points to the left to go through the alleyway was also used in the intro video for this show. I love seeing that big old Lincoln Continental put through its paces and those are real engine & tire noises they aren't dubbed in. Once more this being an American show we call those car components and clothing attire proper names for the country of their origin, ie. Hood not bonnet and runners if you're refering to footwear. " you know who I'm talking about so stop pretending you put those words in by accident"
I do know that, but because I'm British living in Britain things like bonnet come to me naturally. Another example: UK English, boot. US English, trunk.
the sound effects sound like the car has manual tranny, most likely an automatic , by the time the show was made engines were choked with emissions .. still like the car though, would love one today
I love how both cars handle just about the same!
By far, one of my favourite shows ever 👍👍
This is the pilot sequence that became the first seasons opening credits.
And second

Loved watching this show growing up

Funny how Starsky's hot rod torino couldn't lose the land yacht Lincoln ;
I miss the 70's cars
Loved this when the show first came on!!
The car was the star to me.
Great chase scene. I’d love to drive that car
Expect Starsky!
How about that alley? In my head for decades

Ahhh une belle poursuite d anthologie. Ça n a pas pris une ride. Que du plaisir...👍😉

For forty years or so ;
yes -- I am sure they had many of dings ..
That ole Lincoln could burn some rubber.
Evidently it's a Sunday morning, the streets are quiet cuz everybody's at church.

Me gustan los dos carros parecidos a los carros qué tiene la Reina Clarisse Renaldi incluyendo el Ford Gran Torino Starsky & Hutch
Is it just me I don't know where they filmed at but those were some of the dirtiest allies I have ever seen in all my life LOL 😆😆
You know you got a problem when you can't out run a 4 door lincoln

The tire popped at the end!!! Lol
I believe it was the license plate frame that was scraped on the ground.

This show was just as popular in UK as it was in US, so British viewers will know what I'm talking about.
speak freeley American car, hood. British car, bonnet.

not in NYC, unless it has palm trees
You are correct about some of the filming on location but those car chase scenes were shot in parts of old down town L.A not New York.
paul michael glaser will 79 in march 2022
david soul will be 78 in august 2021
the sound effects sound like the car has manual tranny, most likely an automatic , by the time the show was made engines were choked with emissions .. still like the car though, would love one today
How fast were they going?
Este es capítulo piloto?
Sí
Starsky & Skywalker would've been cool!! VS Darth Pimp!! LMAO
