I dont have a saw or do wood work but i still watched this video because it was so well made and explained lol. Good job sir.
Excellent work figuring this out! This has been a question among us Dewalt jobsite saw users for years. And thanks for the detailed video, including PN's and instructions. Awesome work. Thank you, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Great info.
PSA: Don't attempt with a DWE7485. I was really hoping for this to work but Dewalt changed the spindle length, among other things, for that model.
They REALLY don't want you to modify that saw..
Clown world. Thanks for the comment. Saved my the effort.
Very well explained! I will probably never do this modification but still watched the full video - I learned a lot about how to handle bearings and also how to make a simple gasket :) very well done, really!
Thanks to your video i was able to successfully convert my saw! Thank you 🙏🏾
Thanks man, u deserve more attention for this hard work, and i am sure ur channel will get millions of subscribers. keep the great work up !
Awesome ingenuity! Re-engineering, Great Fix, especially since it should be able to run dado blades from the factory 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Proceed at your own risk of course as you stated
Great instructional video. Thank you for the hard work you put into making this.
Quality video. I had the same thought. I'm glad you saved me time by documenting it. Thank you
Excellent video, good job in your takes and editing.
OK after watching this 100 times, I ordered all the parts and just completed the install on my DWE7480 (USA model). Everything went exactly as you described, and I just cut my first 3/4" dado using the DeWalt 7670 8" dado stack. I went straight for the worst case load to see if the motor could handle it, and it passed with flying colors. A 3/8" deep dado (3/4" wide) came out perfectly flat, with super tiny witness lines that can only be faintly seen at the perfect angle. The motor definitely slowed slightly but the hardwood passed through easily (ran about 3 feet through). The only issue I've had is that when the saw is slowing to a stop, there's a weird noise I hear that wasn't there with the original kit. Doesn't sound like a bearing is failing, and there's no smoke or smell. Just this weird clunkety sound, and it's consistent - only on power down. Overall though, I'm stoked to have dado capability on this saw. Thanks for the great video! Oh one more thing - that 3/8" tubing trick you used - uh, I gave up. I bought 3/8" aluminum standoffs (Amazon), and simply added aluminum tape to close the gap around the perimeter. I put some blue tape on the inside of the aluminum tape so that dust inside the shroud wouldn't get all stuck to the exposed aluminum glue-side. Easy peasy and looks nice. Not as convenient to take apart, but I thought about it - in 5 years I have taken that shroud off exactly 1 time - and it was for this project! So I'm not worried about reusability in this case. Thanks again, fantastic upgrade!
Hey James - cool to hear it worked well to swap arbors, though I'd love to hear again from you after a while as to the clunk sound. I have a DWE7480 too, and am about ready to swap arbors based on this vid. I hope you update with any news. Thanks
where did you get the spindle from and how much? Looking to be almost 50 bucks. Thanks
@@onemanonevanhi there, so far the slight noise has not impacted operation in any way. One thing I did that was very slightly “off” relative to the video was my reinstallatiin of the second bearing - see 15:50 mark on the video. I tapped the bearing on, same as the video, but I tapped it maybe 1/64 to 1/32 further down than the ideal spot. To elaborate, the arbor has a tapered end that the bearing is pressed down on. The bearing should be pressed until the taper is just fully showing. In my case, the taper shows, plus a tiny bit more below the taper. I’ve no idea if this very minor difference mattered and/or caused the noise. Hope that helps!
@@kmtischerhi there, yes, $47 on Amazon is what I paid (plus CA tax, so about $50 total). Couldn’t find it for less, and wanted an OEM part (actually I didn’t final any knockoffs in my searches anyway). Tried eBay and others, this was the best I could do. I compared the price of this upgrade to upgrading to a 7491 and quickly decided on the parts swap. The 7491 is a friggin beast, over 90 lbs and way bigger. Don’t need that size and didn’t want the hassle of lugging it around. Hope that helps!
@@jameskirkpatrick361 - Thanks so much for the reply, James. I'll definitely keep that in mind wh, man.en I do this, hopefully in the next month or so in prep for winter workshop woodworking. I'll report back here, too, with results if any vibrations, noise, or lack of. Thanks again!
Thank you for posting I need to do this upgrade.
A great instructional video, I'll do that instantly
Awesome video! Thank you for doing and sharing the research on this, and for the extremely thorough and clear video.
Thanks for doing this experiment for me.
I like so much this video, i want to make this in my DW745, is awesome!
In european market they changed part numers
arbor is the same 5140134-94
lock nut is 1004695-84 ( it was 5140131-58)
bearing is 1004695-91 ( it was 5140117-79)
hope I helped
You do have to spend some time setting the saw up... blade, fence, etc. But once done, the saw is great. Fairly compact which is Nice ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxXh-4_3-ZT1fFWP91ZV7iVqzElr0lEb-a I did get an Incra Miter Gauge which takes some setup as well. The stock miter gauge can be adjusted in the miter slot with a little painter's tape... this tightens up the side to side play a lot.
Outstanding!!! I bought this saw without a thought of it not having an arbor long enough for a dado stack and didn’t learn that until later. This is an excellent modification!! Using a six inch stack should never overwhelm the motor. Just ordered the parts!!
Hi Keith
Where did you order the parts from ?

Interested to hear how your upgrade project went. Im keen to give this a try also but don't want to screw up my table saw!
@@andrewford80 my replacement auger just arrived a few days ago…shipping has been very long term. In fact, at one point I got an email that it was out of stock with no known restock date and asked if I wanted to cancel the order. I replied that I would wait and yes, it finally arrived. Thus far, everything parts and parts number wise, appear to be exactly as the poster described so I’m confident. I’ll try and get that done within the week and post my experience and results but, again, I’m feeling very confident. I do expect making dado cuts will have to be done slowly because regardless of the auger length and it’s ability to hold a stack, the motor is still the same so, when I start making cuts, I’ll be moving slowly over the table so as to not over burden the motor. I’m looking forward to getting this done!!😁
@@keithrayeski3147 awesome! Good luck!
@@paulrigby9972 hey Paul, sorry I missed this! If you open up his notes below the video, he lists the parts and vendors. He also provides the information within the video itself. Word of caution; the shaft will take time…it took me forever! I even got an email asking if I wanted to cancel the order, but I didn’t…I waited. It was out of stock with no known restock date BUT, did arrive not too long after so, be patient…shipping is terrible these days!!
Very nicely done!
Very good info video, same table saw I have, thanks for sharing........
Great detailed explanation thx
Great video you've just earned a new subscriber 👍👍👍
Well done! Thank you so much!
This is great, thank you for sharing!
My pleasure!
Amazing well done.
Просто красава! Очень круто допетрил и сделал! И объяснил хорошо. Спасибо!

Great video. But that takes a lot for 5/8 gain. I have the same saw and an older model, what I usually do is, pop 2 or 3 piece of dado and naked it work. But I than I just bought the 32.5" now I can use a full 7/8 dado in it. I used to built cabinets for leaving with large deltas saws now I just do small remodeling.
Top demais, parabéns pelo vídeo se eu conseguir essas peças no Brasil vou fazer na minha dw 745
I stack 2 standard blades and 1 thin kerf blade giving me a 7 mm kerf . DW 745 cutting dados @ SION HUGHES channel. Only requires 2 blade washers . Well worth a watch .
Excellent hack.
Congratulations on the undertaking. Would you know if this modification can be done on the DW-7492? I was very interested and would like to do mine. thanks for sharing your knowledge.
I will bring the insert over to the bandsaw jigsaw and try to cut the rest of the insert out. That way you can use the full blade.
Thanks for a great video and all the information you provide. I just ordered the parts to modify my DW745. Question: can you still set your standard blade for a bevel cut of 45 degrees? I ask because of the 1/4" added to the dust collection enclosure might be blocked by the fence gear rod.
It will go up to 43 degrees. For 45 degrees, you need to modify the cover or remove it.

@@thetrick4fun Great idea! Thank You.
Hi. It has been three years since you posted this video. Is your Dewalt table saw still working well since changing the parts? Thank you
nice
great job detailed explanation.. on the project lit for projects..have your part numbers thank you
any links to buy the parts ? nice work !
i still don't know how the usa won the cold war. this kind of ingenuity is very russian and very genius. thanks.
Thats what i was thinking lol.
Well, to be fair, without this USA made saw, the Russians can’t work on anything, can they?
G'day, Trick, may i ask where you found the parts list and diagram for your machine? O have a DWT7492B and would like to do the same, but I need to check the parts numbers.
You have a diagram of a modification for the blade cover that is different than the gasket you made. Was there a problem with the tube gasket? Any updates on how the saw is performing? Thanks for putting the effort into this...it’s a huge issue for many with this saw.!
It has been more than 7 month since I modified the saw. It still works - no problem. I'm so happy with the saw now.
Can you use any dado stack sets with this method I have the 745 and just ordered all the parts nice video thanks for the heads up
Can I use 8” dado sets on my 745 or is that two much of a strain on the motor.
Hello Ralph
Where did you order the parts from ?

where did you order parts from?
Trying but can't get gear off. What is that tool you are using? Need help...
I have a DWE7491RS that needed the gear case replaced. I used this video to partially get me the way, but unfortunately, the motor has to be pulled and my god who has the tools for that kind of thing??? Thanks anyways, I needed to get at least this far to be sure and now my saw is free to a good home!
Very impressive. Why do you need to change the bearings as well. Are they perhaps stronger than the original ones? Thanks for short response.
The bearings are damaged when disassembling the arbor.
@@GabrielPorumb Yes...even a small defect can throw off the balance of the bearing.
Only one bearing should be changed. Both replies are correct. Because I hit it with a hammer while disassembling.
@@thetrick4fun You could list the dimensions of the bearing, I assume it is a pretty common wheel bearing you can get at your local bearing store.
I think the dimensions are "17x35x10mm"
Hi could you please let me know the bearings number thanks for both is it the same number or different
I would actually think the Dewalt motor should be able to handle this being 2HP, that is a beefy saw for how small/inexpensive these really are.
Hi there, has any one tried changing the arbor on the Dewalt 7485 saw, and do the parts in the video work for changing this model. Thanks all
Someone else commented and said they tried it and unfortunately no
“Watch this video at your own risk,” the man said. LOLOLOL. Oh, ok.
Nice, but to much work for me. They have a contractor saw that will take a dado blade. Don't know the number.
Hello , is possible to modify on DWE7485? Thanks
Video is outstanding but not the music
The DW745 is no longer available to buy new, I'm looking at buying the DWE7492 would this mod work on that also?
DWE7492 can use dado blades. DWE7485 can't.
That's weird you have to modify it at all I have a Ridgid that will fit my dado set. I don't remember having a problem with my old DeWalt portable saw either. It was 20+ years old and I'm sure larger then the real compact ones. But I don't see why they would short you on spindle length to where you can get a full dado stack on them.
So you buy the more expensive model that supposedly has enough power to carry a dado.
Has anyone done this with a 745 ,I’d like to no how it came out far as the motor holding up and not bogging down, there’s a lot of difference in the RPMs between these two saws.
This is a great question and would like to know as well if anyone has looked further into this.
I modified my 745 today. I had to make the gasket .5” instead of the recommended .25” but other than that it worked. Thanks so much.
@@ablinkon5372 what do you mean by the gasket ? Are the parts he mentioned the right one?
@@ablinkon5372 which gasket are you talking about?
Is this upgrade availible for the DWE7485 ?
I've compared the DWE7480 parts with the DWE7485. From what I've found in the DWE7485 parts diagram, there is only a full arbor assembly part available rather then the individual parts (arbor, key, o-rigns, gear, bearings, etc) on the DWE7480. It also appears from the diagrams that the bearing closest to the end of the arbor nut doesn't exist on the DWE7485. This makes me question if the assembly would accept an arbor from the other models. Has anyone else attempted this yet on the DWE7485?
Has anyone gotten any further on the investigation? Hoping to do this to a 7485 also.
@@toddluikart9519 If it's possible, it won't be with the parts for the 7480 - they're totally different saws.
This is for the 10” sAw or the 8.25” saw?
The factory blade for this table saw is 10". Dado blade stacks are typically 8". A table saw is just a motor that you bolt a circular blade to. You can use whatever blade size you want as long as it's not bigger than the factory blade it comes with. 8" dado stacks are not made for 8" table saws. I don't think I've ever seen an 8 inch table saw but I'm sure they probably exist. For this table saw you just change out the 10" blade for the 8" stack. This is acceptable and the normal way of using a dado stack.
The 7480 and 745 were 10" saws. DeWalt dropped these models 2 years ago and replaced them with the new 8-1/4" models (like the 7492). This mod is only applicable to the 7480 and 745
@@jeffeverde1 so the parts he listed can fit on the 745 ?
@@angihomeimprovementllc892 I think I remember looking up the original parts that this mod replaces, and the 7480 amd 745 had interchangeable parts. But it's been awhile. Check for your self

hi, is it possible to install it on the DWE7492 please?
You dont need to modify. Yours already support dado stack
I would have just made an adapter that extends further. Drill and tap the inside and tap the outside for a new locking nut…
Just bought all the parts but they ended up being usd....for anyone thats curious
sorry, what do you mean ?
Is it safe to use the blades without washer for wider dados
What is the widest dado you can make with a washer? Myself I would use it with no washer but I would want the shaft to thread through the entire bolt. I would be happy with a full 3/4" dado
I'm could you please send me the website that you brought this the nut and Arbor please
What. The number of part?
