I have an old town tripper. I love it as a river canoe for long trips. I have used this canoe since 1987 when I purchased it at the factory in Old Town, Maine. I have probably dn over 2000 km in this canoe. The usual trip is around 175 km. I have all the gear, food and what is needed of three or four days. The tripper holds all this so easily. Of course I have it all tied in. I also have long lengths of road at each end. I use them in case I am thrown out of the canoe or need to lower it down the slope of a dam. I canoe alone. I am always in the stern. I receive that adrenaline high as we go through the rapids. If they are big, I stop before them and work out the line to follow to stay out of trouble. The Tripper is great in large rapids. It is also very stable and yet moves so smoothly through the river. I always wax it before the trip, it does make a difference in speed and stability. Cannot beat a Tripper, I have used it in all but one of the large rivers of SouthKorea.
