When I think of all the women I met and spent time with through my music and DJ career it's only now, as a late middle-age man, I realise how lucky I am to be relatively unscathed. Great pod as ever BBW, superb job these.
Another excellent episode, packed full of detail. I am not quite sure why that one reviewer hated the Kongreßsaal in Munich so much. Still, each to their own. Thanks, Belly Button Window, for all your time and effort in creating this unique and wonderful series.
Thanks BBW. I love that pic of Jimi and Mitch at the bar. Good times. And at 13:40 there's Jimi with Monica. She gets a bad rap you know. You should read her book if you can find it. She didn't kill him. Voodoo Child is Jimi's theme. It would've been great to hear it in Germany but the Royal albert Hall version which is on Hendrix in the West is the best. Most artists and Jimi included, have an excitement in their earliest live versions that can never be captured again.
After much repetition, even playing my own songs feels like I'm just covering what I was, but not what I am. It could be anybody else's material at that point.
Thank you! Yes, have a copy of her book, and met her briefly in the early 90s. From a channel/editorial point of view, just want to tell the story, from different angles/opinions/sources. You the reader will form your own opinion. Best wishes!
Jimi made horrible choices, when it came to his "love life". Those ladies held no "curse" over Jimi...whatever negativity they brought, it was Jimi's choice to be involved with them.
Witch is term i would not use to call her that she was just an air head that was to stupid to do the right thing when she couldn't rouse him on that fateful day , Scared to get busted as she claimed there was Hashish in the apartment she did all the wrong things or she may have saved his life . I do believe Eric Burdon's account as he was one of Jimis real friends & tried to get her to call the ambulance & turn him over ,sadly she did none of those things.

Sad Jimi had to deal with so much BS from critics that had no clue in 67 & by 1969 into 70 they were still clueless . Jimi loved the songs they played but as he stated several times he was tired of playing them over & over & both the critics & many fans just would not get it that he wanted to do other things as well & you can't fault him for that & it's no surprise he reacted as he often did to all of that. On top of all the crap he ,Mitch & Noel took for not sounding perfect all the time & in venues never made to have loud music only fueled the so called critic's which had a field day slamming him for what he loved to do which was to jam & play in the moment. As good as this cover site of The Experience & Jimi is I am not looking forward to the ending of it as we know how it ends . For Jimi i think had he survived we would still be seeing & hearing him do as he pleased & Jazz was one direction he seemed to love as he did play with some greats . Sad we will never get to find out.
Hey my friend, thanks for sharing this! You make a very important point. Every one of us knows the eventual outcome, and so the real 'trick' is to remember, that no-one knew this at the time, so you want to view that way. That's what I try to convey. Cheers!
Uh, some of the commentary is so off base as opposed to the actual concerts its ridiculous. There are recordings of his 69 European tour and especially Germany. The levels he is reaching from guitar playing alone is still beyond comprehensible even from todays standards. There were NO bad Hendrix concerts if you ACTUALLY listen to what he is playing. Whether subdued of high energy, Hendrix almost ALWAYS showcased a new facet or angle of guitar attack. Just when you think the lead instrumentals are nonsensical, Hendrix pulls the whole song back in Jazz fashion but with guitar sound effects that are like entire compositions itself. He takes it to another level in 70, and no one is even close.
Yes! I have several CDs of this time period...while it is true that, at times, the other two dudes in his group were a little bit off, Hendrix himself was always breaking new ground with his guitar. Redding admitted later on, that he sometimes would purposely play badly, just to antagonize Jimi! I wish that Hendrix could have summoned Billy Cox for this tour!
I agree and disagree. Stockholm sucks large quantities of robot beep! Jimi said so himself. As a fan, I am glad that technology has saved some of them. Royal Albert Hall I had on LP but the video was almost unwatchable. Now they have saved most of it.
I see and feel alot of Albert king in him, Albert came to Detroit at least one a year in the 80s ,it was bombastic to witness this when your 17,yrs old and early 20s.
I would love to know where Jimi got his far out threads he wore. Never the same thing twice. He must of had his own tailor. Can you dig up this information? Love your belly button dude.
Great question. In early 1968 Jimi met Stella Douglas and Colette Mimram, they owned a fashion boutique in New York. Jimi was good friends, and had his outfits specially made for him. Cheers!
In the UK the Experience was produced and sold as "pop" where in the US it was hard to find Hendrix on the radio. During the late 60's I was lucky to find Hendrix played at all- only late at night on an underground FM radio station in Chicago, Illinois. You had to go by word of mouth.
@@jeffreycollier1059 There was a "Radio x," I believe it was called, off the coast of Texas. ZZ Top did a song about them. It's weird that they would need pirate radio to play pop?

Monika was a witch and helped curse Jimi. Devon Wilson being the other one.

Am I the only one that can’t stand hearing Jimi referred to as a “pop” star? He played rock and blues! Not pop!
Acid rock was so mainstream that it WAS pop! The underground was a bit more velvet.
British guys always refer to his music as "pop" because he sold records.
