I still get tears in my eyes watching that final scene between Fonda and Brimley.
He was a hero. He wasn’t a loony, he was a hero!

The China Syndrome is what I get when I order the pork with spicy garlic sauce from Ming Garden.

One of the top 10 movies of the 70s. Holds up extremely well today.

I'll never forget the scene where the coffee in Lemon's mug jitters when he reaches for it.

The near-meltdown at Three Mile Island months after the movie's release made it suddenly relevant.

Jack Lemmon stole the show! He deserved more credit than anyone else in the film!

Great movie, one of my favorites and a powerhouse performance by the legendary Jack Lemmon. But this movie wasn't rated R. Not at all. It was rated PG by the MPAA, but it might have been PG-13 today--just because that's the sweet spot rating Hollywood wants nowadays.

Well plus it was a pretty intense film. But yeah I didn't think it was rated R either; I do remember it was PG.

I cannot BELIEVE they showed the very end of the movie. That was beyond stupid. And "The China Syndrome" is an incredible film.
That movie and "Kramer vs Kramer" are the best movies of 1979. Unless I'm forgetting something.
P.S. "The China Syndrome" was rated PG, not R.

Yeah, it's astonishing that the only cleared and available clips(?) comprised nothing but the climax.

Breaking away and apocalypse now are also the best 1979

Very true. This would be like showing a part near the end of The Empire Strikes Back where someone asks Luke "how does it feel to know Darth Vader is your father?" :D Who chose these clips to be cleared?!

I thought the same thing - but both S&E and the characters in the movie never really say what happened - if you have not seen the movie it's just an intense and breathless scene without the emotional details that REALLY make it work.

What about the nuclear waste? What do you do when something goes wrong, as it did at Chernobyl? The 2011 earthquake in Japan showed what happens when there isn't enough water to cool down the reactor.

This anti-nuclear hysteria persists to this day and it's absurd. The only major nuclear disaster caused by human error is Chernobyl and that was because the plant was badly constructed. The other major disaster, Fukushima, was bound to happen because it was constructed in a area that is prone to earthquake activity. Three Mile Island, literally nothing happened.

      nuclear isn't green at all.
      1. Fuel - Uranium mining is not green its old fashioned open pit/mountain top mining that destroys the local environment.
      2. Waste - Spent fuel rods and other radioactive waste is pilling up on-site as we have no long term storage a problem that hasn't been solved in decades.

    • @ricardocantoral7672

@@jinto1980 The process of mining materials for nuclear power plants produces more pollution than the plant itself which produces a negligible amount of pollution.

You realize you undercut your own point, right? Whether it's rabid anti-regulatory crusaders weakening safety measures, or just incompetent government oversight, human error will always be a danger.

    • @ricardocantoral7672
      @ricardocantoral7672 Рік тому

@@Hexon66 I didn't undercut my point because Chernobyl was caused by gross incompetence. The plant was badly constructed. Being scared about what would happen in theory is no reason not to construct more nuclear power plants.

@@ricardocantoral7672The problem is that when there's human error at a nuclear power plant, which by the way is historically always bound to happen, that could mean massive disaster. It's not worth the risk.
