Its beautiful and love the dedication to you're art work. One thing I struggle with is consistency. I used to draw but when I pick up a pencil now I am very basic. Its like I forgot how to shade in some regard because its been years.
That is actually what goes into painting flesh. Its very interesting and tough to learn. You dont really use the typical "skin colors" because it all depends on the light and colors reflected on the skin
That is very normal actually, that is how skin is usually painted ! To get skin right you need to use a lot of colors and not just a dark or light brown🥰 Blue and green and brighter reds work really well and make the skin look alive
The thing that strikes me the most is that the MOOD has completely altered. I’m not sure if it’s partially the lighter background on the new one or not. Obviously your Second painting is technically much more proficient and realistic. But what really captured me about the first one was the mood. I think the first one tells more of a story. And that’s what I look for in art. Although your second painting of the figure is beautiful. I really wonder what would happen if you did a more impressionistic and darker background on the new one. If that would bring back the gritty/sensual mood and story that I feel did not translate over. (anyway, fantastic video! Loved it!)
I have kindly disagree. The mood was not set in the background but by the focal point itself in this painting...it conveys different and yet the same sides of the same person...more evolved..like a real human.
Exactly, the first one recalls memories, for me it is the picture of a hooker outside an old fashioned nigth club, i almost hear some jazz music as background. The second one is the instagram picture of some narcissist we have in abundance nowadays. Perhaps just a bit more depth of color in the first one would pop up the lady. This is the same thing i find in music, there are some simple songs, but very groovy, and some other at insane level of sofistication, but forgettable.
I agree! I like the mood of the first one. But the technical proficiency of the figure’s rendering in the second.... Going purely on which image pulls me in more and makes me think more about what’s happening in the scene, I have to say the first one is my preference. Even though the second one is very beautiful.
Wow, that is a HUGE difference. I think you understand color and how to use your brush better, among other things. I hope i’m able to grow like this in 10 years, too!
It’s interesting how art also reflects modern fashion and trends. The new girl looks like an Instagram influencer with contour on point and studio lights. 💄 The older is the first selfie she posted when she started out. 📸 Anyway, it’s an inspiring video and gives me hope that I can also get better in time
I love them both!!! For me... I feel like... the first one is more emotional in the sense that she seems to have so many worries and struggles and that though she's trying so hard, she's caught in a quicksand. the second one feels like.. she still has worries and struggles but she learned how to deal with them and let go of things she can't control. she seems free and glowing. there's growth.
The second one is a more aesthetically pleasing as a PORTRAIT, but the first one looks like a screen grab from a movie scene and is more atmospheric. Still has a magic in it’s own way. Both beautiful.
"Once I became a better craftsman, even better than I imagined, I felt kind of empty" Ouch, I feel that, & imagine that even if I reach my next goal of becoming a full time artist I'll feel the same way.
I specifically searched a old and new version of a painting that you did and I am so glad that you did it. It really inspired me to know that the more time I put in the better I will get. I love your videos thank you so much.
Your wisdom is so helpful. Thank you for inspiring a 20 year old over in Australia that overthinks my future too much. I really appreciate your words, they hold power
At 3 minutes you can already tell you've improved SO much.. she actually had form and looks more 3 dimensional while the older one looks flat and makes her look pretty wonky :) love how you changed the background
"Step one: caffeinate, step two: paint" I felt this in my soul. Good to hear it will stay with me after art school too. This is the universal artist experience it seems like xD
i was in the same position 2 months ago ahah, all i did was watercolors and gouache! now i finally bought my first set of oil paints and wow, it's incredible. i highly recommend trying it out, it's extremely satisfying to do, i love the medium now!
Same! Im so fascinated and intimidated by oils lol. I mostly use and love acrylic but it dries too quick, even with a slow dry medium. Watercolor is easier to blend and so much fun to work with but theres nothing like oil, apparently
Contrast, richness, but most importantly, confidence are the things that stand out to me in the new version... You can see an artist comfortable and confident in their ability and skills, who has found a path with their work they enjoy, and whose results they are proud of and enjoy themselves. In the first painting, you can see an artist looking for those things. Amazing work.
"One of the paintings has what the other pretends to have" Oof, that's so on point on how I feel whenever I try to draw, except that all mine are the "pretenders."
Alpay, there is definitely a maturity in your confidence of painting in comparison from the first and the second painting. Yes, as you critiqued I agree, there is more clarity and mystery in the second painting, contrast and variety (worlds apart in comparison), quite a vast difference even thought the model is the same image. Obviously the time comparison also proves your growth in artistry. My eyes appreciate the second painting, although, it will be interesting to see your third painting of the same image to see what else could be appreciated in addition to the talent that already withhold.
Wow! Tremendous difference! To say you've "grown" as an artist is an understatement. You have broken through that wall that separates the mediocre from the sublime. Bravo! Now let's see you top this!
The difference is huge, yes but both paintings are incredibly stunning in their own style. One is more on the abstract side with cartoonish vibes and the other one is more realistic and _sensual_ .. I honestly love both. You are very talented
There is a huge difference!!! It's not even close. Kudos for the discipline and perseverance! Earlier you had basics, the new version has strong subtlety!
I think the beauty of early art is, if it's a painting or music or something else, that it's bolder. I like the deep reds from the background of the old painting, and how they seep into the foreground. I think that adds depth where the newer one is lacking.
‘…by the time I finally became the great craftsman I always wanted to be, I was no longer the person who wanted those things in the first place.’ So profound - that echoes within me. Appreciate your candour and personal reflection. I have only just found you but your method and words are sharply influential. Brava!
Your videos got me out of my “ art funk/artist block “ ...it amazes me how you give so much knowledge through the art of painting and speaking...thank you for sharing !
I love how focused on growth you are. You not only create a beautiful visual experience with your paintings and process, but your soothing and inspiring wisdom, encouragement, and modesty are another delightful dynamic in and of itself. ✨ Do you teach any classes on skill share?
Thank you for the inspiration and also the extra thoughts, as always! You're really one of my favourite youtubers to not only watch, but also listen to
You captured the light so much better in the second painting. I can definitely see a difference in luminosity and expression. The second painting is hands above the first!
Been going through your videos for the last week and I’ve never been so inspired to start painting. I’ve never touched oil paints, just water colour & acrylics but I think I might take the leap...
the insight and advice made me tear up... especially the part where you said when you finally mastered the craft, you were no longer the person who wanted that for yourself
Man your new version is so much more vibrant and alive. The beautiful differences in skin tones just works so wonderfully in breathing life into the painting, where the old one feels very flat and dead. Great job!
Yes, I would love to see an updated version of this painting. The difference between the original and the second is amazing in itself, so please do a third...Wow!!!
Needed to see this- After giving very little time to my painting and artwork for too long I decided recently to dive back in headfirst, pushing myself to make time, in the hope of learning and improving with regular practice. Seeing this comparison between your then and now really shows how much can be achieved by putting in the work. Makes my failures and frustrations seem a little more worthwhile! Amazing paintings by the way, such an inspiration to watch. You’ve definitely inspired me.
You are what start me painting again... Its been over 10 years since my last painting. Your way of thinking is my inspiration. I paint or draw every day now. 😊 By the way I was blown away with the difference between the 2 paintings. Its mind blowing how much one can change and evolve as an artist🤯 You were good then, but you are a true master now ❤️
Whoa! When I first saw the original painting, I thought it was successful and beautiful. But then when you see the 2 compared side by side your repaint is LIGHT-YEARS ahead of the original. This is super impressive! I've been painting digitally for 6 years and still paintings take me days to finish. I look forward to being able to finish a complete looking painting/ illustration in a few hours. Way to go! Love your videos and your work. You're extremely inspiring. Keep up the amazing work and insightful videos.
Omg, I can't stop staring at the newer version of this painting. I'm so glad you kept doing close up's on her face and lips. It's such a beautiful piece, the skin is so smooth but I love the blockiness of parts of it near the edges, as if the person is focused just on her face and lips and everything else is just out of focus for the viewer. I'd love to own a painting like this in my home.
The difference is astonishing!!!!!!!! Id love to see an updated 3.0 version as you mentioned! I found your page today and I am definitely subscribed now. Your page is inspiring. Thank you.
love listening to your words of wisdom and your paintings, I used to love painting, some were okay, some was just bad, then I decided to go for a few art lessons, worse decision ever, now I pop my head into my art room, now and again, and just stare at my brushes, boards, canvases and paint tubes collecting dust
I love how the tone of her skin is in the updated version! The depth of the newer version and how she just pops. The first is moody without as much depth but is still stunning with the darker version.
The difference is clearly in depth of color and detail. Time and experience will make a difference every time as shown here, thank you for sharing your experience, Alpay.
The expression reads so much clearer in the new painting. Like the new painting is a snapshot of the model actually moving, while the old one is more posed. This was a fun video to watch!
The way you do your brush strokes is so fun to watch. I loved seeing the difference between the two paintings and understanding how technique and understanding can change so much in so little of a time, like 10 years, technically, isn't that long. Thx for your input!
What an interesting and fun idea! Gorgeous work and the difference is night and day to my eyes. LOVE to see 3.0 or anything else you decide to paint. How about one of your gorgeous florals? Pretty please?
Hi master craftsman! I am a huge fan of your artistry, and I want to say that your works are inspirational. I too is passionate about art and looking forward to honing it and sharing it to the world as you do. I love your posts and ideas and overall love what you are doing and I thank you for sharing your thoughts and insight as an experienced one. Please keep up your good work, for you are indeed watering the dreams, aspirations, and passions of emerging artists here in UA-cam like myself. God bless!
I love the depth of forms and colors in the shadows and skin in the second one. The second one is definitely more refined and masterful in my eyes. The way you paint skin is amazing to me.
The newer effort glows with an enhanced feeling of three dimensionality. Your color tones have a cleaner appearance. The ten-year old painting is flatter and a bit muddier. Yes, indeed you have grown very much as an artist. Your confidence and experience show thru!

If I can do it, you can too ;)
Yes I agree
I hope so 🤗
Its beautiful and love the dedication to you're art work. One thing I struggle with is consistency. I used to draw but when I pick up a pencil now I am very basic. Its like I forgot how to shade in some regard because its been years.
Teşekkürler Alpay!Harikasın.
Hope so♡
I love how you blend these obscure colors into her skin, but just a small amount of them where they should be, to make it interesting.

Agree!

Exactly what I was thinking. 👍☺
Definitely down for a version 3.0. I wonder what your take on an improved composition will be
Oh yes please!
Yep, it would be great to see!
the subtle colors in the skin are a huge leap, but gotta say the color palette and mood of the original version are really great.
I agree! I really loved the whole aura of the first one as well!

2nd painting's message is much more subtle and mature in my opinion.
Wow, that is a HUGE difference. I think you understand color and how to use your brush better, among other things. I hope i’m able to grow like this in 10 years, too!
You can grow like this in a year if you really want to.
@@ByRonnita only one way to find out(:
Her skin is practically glowing!!! This is incredible and you are 100% the reason I started painting in oils. Thank you for what you do.
The new one feels more free and I think that is such a huge achievement to reach as an artist.
i love how he works and speaks so inspiringly
It’s interesting how art also reflects modern fashion and trends. The new girl looks like an Instagram influencer with contour on point and studio lights. 💄 The older is the first selfie she posted when she started out. 📸

Such an underrated comment! Today’s influencers are so polished so I think you nailed it!
Heeyy !!? What´s your name !
I love them both!!!

THANK YOU FOR SHOWING YOUR OLD WORK!! NOT ENOUGH ARTIST DO THIS!
Your wisdom is so helpful. Thank you for inspiring a 20 year old over in Australia that overthinks my future too much. I really appreciate your words, they hold power
The lighting and shadowing on the newer painting really pops to me. Gives it so much life. I love both of them, thank you for sharing!
At 3 minutes you can already tell you've improved SO much.. she actually had form and looks more 3 dimensional while the older one looks flat and makes her look pretty wonky :) love how you changed the background
You are a beautiful soul. You have gained so much wisdom within yourself. You are a light for those still stuck in the dark
HUGE difference.. Darkest night to brightest day difference.. ! WOW !
"Step one: caffeinate, step two: paint" I felt this in my soul. Good to hear it will stay with me after art school too. This is the universal artist experience it seems like xD
The difference between student and teacher. Absolutely beautiful!
ur the reason why I'm interested in oil paints now, I'm a watercolor artist 😅

Yes, a World of difference but both have their own attributes. Your current work! Fantastic.
Have been working with acrylics for so many years.
But now have been motivated to try oils seeing you having fun painting.
What a difference 10 years makes. I look back over my work and see so many changes too.

Astounding. And, I love that you surprised yourself, so beautiful.
I really want to see my art after 10 years 🤔 beautiful painting 👏❣

of course the second is the expression of "growing up" and it looks more refined, more clear

I love your encouraging words and your art. I will be purchasing your full step by step tutorials.
The newer effort glows with an enhanced feeling of three dimensionality. Your color tones have a cleaner appearance. The ten-year old painting is flatter and a bit muddier. Yes, indeed you have grown very much as an artist. Your confidence and experience show thru!
I like both paintings for what they are!
You've clearly put the hours in and you're reaping the rewards. It's that thing where people say "You've got such a talent for a painting". But it's not necessarily innate talent, just starting at the beginning and doing it again and again until you get really good. I love watching you paint, you have a really nice style and method of constructing your compositions. Also, great voiceover and editing. Keep them coming.
WOW, Amazing ! Yes, I'd like to see another updated painting video.
The new one is so much better in all the ways you mentioned.
Fantastic comparison and commentary! I enjoy both paintings but the second (more recent) painting is my favorite. I'd love to see the even more updated version you suggested at the end of the vid!
