If it is the end of OW, that’s what happens when you don’t listen to your players and give them what you said you would, or give them what they want. I haven’t touched OW since before it became OW2, but I’ve been playing the shit out of rivals Blizzard needed a kick in the ass
Another guy on the internet said it best. Marvel Rivals looks like the real successor to Overwatch 1. Overwatch 2 was a step back, while Marvel Rivals is a step forward.
I seriously don't want Role Queue in Rivals, it decimated the fun of Overwatch and only truly benefits selfish players with time to kill. For average people like me who are happy to flex but don't want to be stuck in a queue forever, it's basically a 'sign up to never play DPS again!' in functionality - if I queue for flex roles, I'm always tanking or healing. Always. If I want to play a DPS then I have to wait 10-15 minutes in order to do that, just so I can get a horrible tank or support that's embittered towards me for being in the DPS role, unaware that I just spent the last 20 matches of my game being a flex and 'paying in'. That's to say nothing of how it neuters team compositions or makes weaker heroes even weaker, because now people are stuck in roles so they can't compensate for having a weak Soldier 76 on their team by swapping from Tracer to something thicker like D.Va, or Lucio to Junkrat because it turns out this team doesn't need much healing they need way more damage or shielding or whatever. It just removes player agency, thought and capability and forces everyone to play more boring games, and I'm not sure why anyone would want that outside of having the kind of childish nature that makes them think forcing people to be supports on their team for them is 'good' because it allows them to know they can always demand healing because they always have a healer without any obligation to switch to a healer themselves. Currently if we have no healers and someone whines, we can point out how they can swap if it bothers them; not so with role Q. It's just a terrible system no matter how you slice it.
I think the game needs a major intital balance patch to fix a lot of the issues, on top of that; gameplay, report system, matchmaking and even the game crashing needs a major review. However its a fantastic initial free release and im excited to keep playing this. It just seriously needs a role queue
I knew this game was coming out but I never intended to actually play it let alone have so much fun with it. I really hope they don't add a role queue though or at least that they limit it to ranked. The synergies are a perfect example of how you can push players into asking themselves what the team needs instead of forcing them to stay locked into a role. And even if you don't want to change your hero, it's just good fun. I feel like imposing team comps would just be a step towards the toxicity of games like overwatch or league/valorant.
I think Role-Q should *maybe* wait until they buff vanguard. 4/5 games have one or no vanguards. and all of the vanguards with the exception of Strange and Venom (and maybe Groot) feel too specialized or too weak. Peni is excellent at defense. But cannot reliably solo tank with no setup. Thor is good, but feels kinda bad. Using abilities depletes your energy and his basic attack doesnt do a lot of damage, while he has minimal sustain. Genuinely 0 reason to throw the hammer as it wastes energy and doesnt do enough damage to warrant it. Cap just doesnt do a lot of damage. Otherwise he might be ok. Hulk spends more time as banner than hulk. The charge time for hulk should absolutely be faster otherwise banner should get something more to help the team (maybe via shielding or something)
I am used to having to fill Support in most games that have open queue for the sake of balance, but the last few days I have had to be Vanguard far more often just to give my team an opportunity to take and hold space. It's clear that they have some characters that are more off-tank focused (Peni for sure comes to mind), but without solid options for main-tanking, it's hard to let those off-tanks shine. I agree that some buffs could be warranted.
I entered Marvel rivals without the lure of the super heroes. I'm not a comic book person, I'm not particularly a fan of super heroes in general, I basically went into the game because I was looking for a fresh take on Overwatch. I think that alone has taken away from my experience and why I prefer OW more; I just see a 3rd person hero shooter (another point of contention for me as I prefer 1st person generally) that's generally fun but has too much jank for me at the moment. I play more so for the grind than actually having fun...
I appreciate the perspective from someone who wasn’t drawn in by the nostalgia of superheroes! The perspective took some time to get used to. I can definitely still see and understand why some would still prefer OW. Thanks again for adding your view to the discussion!
Honestly, no. This isn't the death of OW2. HOWEVER, if Blizzard did care of their games, but didn't do anything to save OW2, then yes, in a year or two, OW2 will be dead as f.
Maybe that was the issue? As someone who kind of dipped out of the OW2 scene for a bit, I didn’t hear anything about Venture, but a lottt about Juno. What are you talking about specifically when you say Blizz don’t like Venture, if you don’t mind me asking?
Blizzard doesn't give them any cosmetics, juno got multiple skins within months of being released and venture has been out longer and only just got their first legendary skin. Whereas the community adores them, some people hate the gameplay, some transphobes hate them for being non-binary. But generally their personality is adored.
I see, thanks for giving me insight on it! I guess my perspective was moreso influenced by the lack of push or support from Blizz. Whereas I feel like we get a new kiriko or mercy skin every week. Haha

oh thats actually really accurate
Couldn’t agree more with that thought at the moment!

Badly needs role queue
or two options, a choice of role Queue or not
Deff doesn’t need role queue. Just needs more healers and tanks
PREACH
No it doesn’t I don’t want it to be like ow, go play ow if you want role queue
I didn't realize that Overwatch 2 wasn't already dead. Are people still playing it?
I love the team up abilities especially when playing with friends
I agree, they are a really nice addition to the game!

for me either perspective seems fine. it was strange for the first half hour, now i don't notice it any more
good riddance.
