The "they will be so mad" part makes me think Oliver is either running away from his abusive home or just going on a little adventure without his parents knowing! Same feels I had when I was little and ran away for an adventure.. (I lasted 20 mins)

Agreed, notice how he isn't as prepared (mismatched clothes, lack of bed) as if he was the only one planning on taking a walk without consulting his parents. The illustrations also seem a bit eerie and I know that oliver is usually illustrated with the bandage eyepatch thingy but that might be signs of abuse. And the final nail in the coffin, it's steampianist, plain and simple.
alternatively it could be referring to the vocaloid community going mad trying to find dark lore in the song

I love how Morb drew the visuals to a cute song with no dark twists but her horror art style still shone through in small ways. Like a little boy standing alone at the mouth of an empty black tunnel. Or a small lantern being enveloped by darkness
also the slightly unsettling way theres way more detail put into cuts and scrapes in compasion with the rest of the solid colors and thicker lineart around it
i love how the darkest thing about this song is that oliver wears crocs

I think that I got the meaning of this song: Oliver is a little kid who decided to just walk around and explore, but he ended up getting lost. It was getting late, so he gave up and decided to sleep in the woods after having his "candy dinner". And since the path is unrailed and Steampianist usually writes dark songs, Oliver probably died in the woods thinking his parents would be mad at him for eating candy for dinner
Morb, among other people, usually write the lyrics and do the art. Steam just makes the instrumentals. Anyway, I like your interpretation. Morb wanted a lighthearted song, but she underestimated our sheer ability to make anything creepy
Or he just left his home on his own and they'll be mad because he didn't tell them.
@@graceanderson8731 I’m not even sure she can write a truely lighthearted song (yes Morb, if you’re reading me, this is a dare). And I really like this interpretation a lot. It makes perfect sense in the context and it does have the dark undertone Morb usually uses in her lyrics. Except Steampianist did mentioned that this kid may not have parents in the live comments (« what parents? »). Also, the non matching socks and shoes makes me think this kid have been by himself for a while.
But, if he’s just lost, it isn’t that dark. It may be implied that he died (darkness cold like a bath) but it isn’t very clear. I don’t know if I’m just too overconfident in our modern society but who even dies by getting lost in the woods anymore? Worst case scenario, this kid spends a bad night in a tree trunk and then keeps walking until someone finds him or until he reaches the forest edge. You can be sure that people are already looking everywhere for him while he’s singing this little song. I’m trying to reassure myself okay?!

Love that we are so use to Oliver singing dark and sad songs (or songs about him eating who knows what) that when we get a seemingly happy song, we wait for a plot twist. Or, we try to find a dark meaning behind it if no plot twist happens
I think this is just a rare, non dark song, but here’s a dark theory that I thought of anyways! :
I think that Oliver died by eating poison mushrooms and candy (due to the large amount of mushroom imagery and the candy seen in the chorus) while running away from home (imo I think he just wanted to go explore, though it could be to escape a bad family). He slept in the woods, only to die in his sleep and not realize he died, causing him to be in a mini purgatory until he realizes he’s dead and comes to terms with it.
In this purgatory he has some amount of control (“See the clouds take shape to whatever I want”)
The bunnies are trying to lead him to his real afterlife, likely heaven. The “they’ll be so mad” part I think could be the bunnies telling him he can’t go back home (the line being Olivers child like response of his parents being mad for going on a journey and never coming back) or Oliver could just be saying his parents would be mad when they find out he went exploring on his own, ate candy for dinner, and didn’t tell them, or come back. (what a rebel lad).
The black path he comes from could be a gate way between the mortal world and afterlife, hence why he appears to enter from it. In the final shot all of the bunnies are looking into the black gate, to me this either means Oliver has gone to heaven and they’re all wishing him luck or they’re waiting for the next child to help move on.
Reminds me of when me and my cousins used to explore the forests and purposefully get lost to explore only to panic an hour later when we realized we were going in circles and it was getting late...

I used to wander in the woods all the time when I was little with my brother particularly when I was in like 2 - 6 grade and we basically just made a rule that as long as we could see the smoke from the neighborhood chimneys we could go as deep as we pleased and we figured we wouldn't get lost and we never did just because something doesn't have a path doesn't mean you will get lost

Okay so here’s my attempt at piecing things together.
One day, Oliver went out into the woods to collect bugs. The only thing he really brought with him were snacks, a jar for his bugs, and a lantern in case he found a cave to explore. He wandered far into the woods, probably chasing after bunnies (bunnies beckon me to play). He eventually became lost and died in the woods, more than likely either dying from starvation or by eating a poisonous mushroom (since we see a lot of mushroom imagery.)
Now here’s a few personal theories. I believe that the chorus may be reading off a missing poster description. What he was last seen wearing and what he was last seen doing. The first two images we see (showing the crocs and then the patch) I believe are of him after he died and his body is found.
Second I don’t think he died from eating a mushroom. I believe that it may just be alluding to death and decomposition.
Because content creators cannot EVER deviate from their standard works. They must ALWAYS make the exact same shit over and over without any breaks whatsoever. Shut the actual fuck up.

I just had a realization, what if its like a loop where oliver passes on but comes back to life every night and when the morning comes he comes back with no memory but the animals remember him and that is why they don't seem to be bothered by him and if anything they even want to keep playing with him over and over again
Honestly probably about reminding us all about going for walks in the forest when we were 8.
To me this seems like a boy, of whom ran away from home; note in the song talking about his candy dinner it says they'd be so mad, "they" is presumably his parents. He also hasn't matching socks nor shoes implying working with limited resources and not having very much; or.. based on walking from birth,life,then death he's orphaned and has been living in the forest his entire life, as well as the people whom are mad about the "candy dinner" are people he's stole from this would also explain the mismatched clothing as he had stolen it, as such he didn't get to choose for "beggers can't be choosers" what I mean by this is because he stole he had stolen possibly from multiple people so he, of course had mismatched clothing... or this song is intended to just simply be a positive one for a change in pace with no deeper meaning. I don't know I'm probably wrong.

Maybe this is a prequel to the „Thing”? In both forests there are many rabbits, both boys are wearing a turtleneck (black hair of the boy from Thing can be explained by darkness) and in this song we can see that frog lamp is in the darkness, which can sugest that the boy with crocs which don't match doesn't leave the forest before night

This is honestly one of my favorite Vocaloid songs and really the only Steampianist work I can listen to. The beat right before the chorus is the cutest sound I've ever heard, makes me want to tap my feet.
This song almost feels like an apology to Oliver from Steampianist for all the awful things he's been forced to sing. Then again, this song could be hiding just as messed up of a story behind it's delightful exterior.
