If anyone wants to know the history. This is the "Skirmish at Bender" after the Battle of Poltava where Charles XII of Sweden and his Royal guard defended themselves against an onslaught by the Ottoman Empire. 40 Swedish Soldiers defended themselves against many 100s of Ottoman Turks
Do note though that the whole fight came about because Charles was kind of a dick. He'd been a guest of the Ottomans for years, having essentially built a Swedish mini-colony around the estate he'd been given to stay in. Sweden was falling into ruin due to his absence, and his sister (who was acting as head of state at the time) sent letters begging Charles to come home, but he refused. The Ottoman sultan also thought he'd overstayed his welcome, so he told Charles to go home, but Charles refused. After repeated refusals like this, the sultan eventually had enough and decided to throw him out by force.
If anyone wandering about when a battle like this happened, after the defeat at Poltava, Carolus rex took refuge in the Otoman empire. A small revolt broke out against the long stay of the Swedish King, so he had to flee the city.

@@zoom5024 I don't want to be "that guy", but it was just the claim of some historians that Swedes only fought with 40 men against 10.000 soldiers. According to reliable sources, Swedes had 1.000 men (more or less) and combined Ottoman Jannisarries and local inhabitants of Bender reached 10.000 when skirmish happened. Of course they were outnumbered, but 10.000 to 40 (or 10-20 as you mentioned), is probably an exaggeration.
@@matthewbencarlson Well the 10K obviously didnt go into the fortress, it was a scare tactic. They would rather that the king surrendered. And no he didnt have 1000 soldiers, he had 1000 people with him when he went to bender that includes women, children, priests, officials etc. And he had roughly 200-300 Karoleans with him, but most surrendered because they saw the Janitsars as their friends, and thought the king had went mad. There were roughly 20-50 Karoleans inside the "kings-castle" who defended it with the king.
Every time Sabaton makes a song about certain groups of soldiers or people, they always manage to make me feel the camaraderie, loyalty, courage and trust that they must have had for each other. Royal Guardsmen, Caroleans, 12th Army, 77th, Swiss Guard, Chasseurs Ardennais, Devil Dogs, all of them. Thank you again for bringing the stories of all these different people to life through your amazing music, fellow Scandinavians! 👍
In my church, this is the tune of one of my favorite hymns. Depending on the denomination, it is either called Beautiful Savior or Fairest Lord Jesus. Stellar work Sabaton!
After the defeat of Poltava, Carolus retreated to the Ottoman Empire seeking sanctuary from Russian forces. In the end, after Carolus made demands that the Sultan saw as too demanding, the sultan sent soldiers to capture or kill Carolus. These men, the Livgardet, did all they could to save their king. Distinguishing themeselves that day as they fought a force of 8,000-14,000 Ottoman soldiers. Alongside 40 Swedish soldiers, the Livgardet slew 200-433 Ottoman soldiers and Axel Erik Roos in particular saved the king three times that day. Ultimately the king would be captured but not after the building the defenders used was set on fire. Though the king was ultimately captured, the Livgardet will always be known as the most distinguished royal guard in history.
Chris is literally the best part of this music video. He gets shot and your like “damn it, Chris!” Then he gets back up magically healed and without any actual dialogue you know that at the end he’s saying, “so guys, it looks like it’s time for an encore” just excellent!

Some context on why they're fighting some Turks; After the decisive Battle of Poltava, the King with a small entourage went south to the Ottoman Empire, where he set up camp at Bender with some 1,000 soldiers, basically a refugee at this point. The Ottomans payed tributes to the King as he was really revered as this great undefeatable general, and ask him to leave and return to Sweden. But the King insist that he wants to stay (so that the Ottomans would attack the Russians). After some time, the Ottomans had enough use force to drive him out. A battle ensued, the Swedish were outnumbered and outgunned but they held out against the Ottomans. Only then, the King agreed to leave for his homeland.
Ottoman state didnt attack him directly, it was kind of a revolt against Carolus Rex. He stayed in Ottoman for some more time. Janissary revolts were a common thing, this might be one of them.
@@jaimelannister8631 it wasnt a revolt, during his time in the Ottoman Empire kept provoking the Turks to attack the Russians. After a time later he was forced out to return to Sweden. During the event he was captured, then released. Ottomans and Swedish fought on the same side during the Northern War.
@@vonclausewitz8558 yeah i know. Thanks for informing. By the way, did you know that Carolus Rex ordered to build 2 ships when he came back to sweden, using Ottoman ship design. They are named Jildirim (yıldırım) and Jaramaz (yaramaz) iirc, meaning thunder and naughty in Turkish.

In Livgardet Joakim unshearhs rapier as a warning to the other royal guard members. In this one he goes full on badass with the rapier. Livgardet music video was probably the defense planning session before the enemy attack.
Your songs make most of the listener feel what patriotism, awe and pride is. Even if you don't live or were born in this country. Here the fallen of all wars are finally given the honor they have unfortunately been denied for a long time. Thx for it!
I don’t know who we’re fighting but consider me enlisted. Edit: Upon watching the premiere it appears we’re taking on the ottomans. I’ll see you all in Istanbul.
After the Battle of Poltava, in a small village from Bender at the very frontier of the Ottoman Empire now Republic of Moldavia - a small detachment of Ottoman janissaries came to get rid of that problematic Swedish king who dared to rule his kingdom from the other side of the continent through letters and riding couriers. Thus the nearly last stand of his guards. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skirmish_at_Bender?wprov=sfti1

(Originally called Turks but now the comment section can't figure out what they were so just large army of something dressed in middle eastern clothing to make them shut up): We have you outnumbered 500 to 1! Sabaton: *We like those odds.*
I feel like Sabaton could literally start their own country, form an army of fans, and go to war and have that army of fans supporting them all the way. All while singing their songs, blasting on speakers, while fighting in battle
It's said that one day the descendants of the Swedish king will return to settle this ancient fight. On the 1st of February 2023, at the 310 year anniversary of the Skirmish at Bender, King Karl XVI Gustaf will travel to Istanbul to fistfight Erdogan. The true King of the North will finally return to beat this petty Boss of the Bosporus in a fight that will decide the future of our nations. Be prepared.

@@raditya5663 Yeah, you can see the roof is on fire in the end aswell just like it happend in real life, and when they look outside it's covered of people. And there is no other event like this in Swedish history were the king and 10-20 of his men are fighting against 10.000 people.
@@raditya5663 Yeah, but unlike in Kalabaliken i Bender, the Swedes won the skirmish this time. I guess all the King needed was these 5 brave men.

Only then, the King agreed to leave for his homeland.
he was held captive for by the Ottomans, then released when the roads are open to Sweden again.
