Indy Neidel (the person who plays the unkillable soldier in this video clip) is a historian. It is said that historians have something like a magical potion that prevents them from getting killed. So yeah no wonder they couldn't get him.
Warning: Listening to this song may cause feelings of invulnerability and a desire to charge enemy lines. You are not invincible. Do not charge enemy lines.
It would be very difficult for someone to look so enigmatic and beautiful at the same time, even when smiling. Your expression was incredible and unique. Excellent job!
Adrian Carton de Wiart, a man who was shot in the face, head, stomach, ankle, leg, hip, and ear; was blinded in his left eye; survived two plane crashes; and tore off his own fingers when a doctor declined to amputate them and still lived to be 83. Yeah, Unkillable soldier seems an accurate title.
“People imagine the loss of a hand to be far more serious than the loss of an eye, but having tried both I can say sincerely that it is not my experience.” ― Adrian Carton de Wiart
Once Carton de Wiart evaded capture for eight days disguised as an Italian peasant (he was in northern Italy, could not speak Italian, and was 62 years old, with an eye patch, one empty sleeve and multiple injuries and scars). HOLY CRAP! This guy played the whole game, did all the side quests and somehow still managed to find the time to troll the NPCs
@@wetwillyis_1881 still had the fire to tell Mao he didnt particularly like communists. So id say he did well... I should say allegedly as i cant recall where ive seen that written.
"Having previously lost an eye and a hand in battle, Carton de Wiart, as commanding officer, was seen by his men *pulling the pins of grenades out with his teeth and hurling them with his one good arm* during the Battle of the Somme, winning the Victoria Cross." JESUS CHRIST this is the most badass thing ive ever read.
I like how in modern times everyone says “don’t try to pull a grenade pin with your teeth, it’s a terrible idea, you’ll just lose teeth and the pin will stay in” Adrian Carton de Wiart: observe
He is the "I´m god, I´ll protect you" like god thing. What a fucking bad ass and even bad ass is not enough. I don´t know any fucking english word that describes his "bravery".
@@takebacktheholyland9306 explaination can be simpler, the pins could be made straight before handed in to Sir Carton de Wiart, because for safety reasons the grenade pins are usually bent to prevent accidential extraction.
"He was shot in the face, head, stomach, ankle, leg, hip, and ear; was blinded in his left eye; survived two plane crashes; tunnelled out of a prisoner-of-war camp; and tore off his own fingers when a doctor declined to amputate them. Describing his experiences in the First World War, he wrote, "Frankly I had enjoyed the war." 😆
"On the edge of madness" seems like a very appropriate line indeed. It's ridiculous how much this guy survived, and combined with his attitude the music reflects that quite well.
"those who fear death die in battle. Those who fight free from the fear of death survive". Sun Tzu. And then there are guys who laugh at death so hard It just walk away in confusion
I heard at the age of madness that refers the madness of the great war Not on the edge of madness or maybe my hearing is trash :/ (Also I saw ur comment was stolen by some guy lol)
Death did not come to me as the reaper. He did not come to me as a general or a soldier. He didn't even come as a man at all. No. Death came to me in the form a young pretty lady, dressed all in white. Her long hair black as the night. Her eyes the color of the morning sun. But I do not remember much more to be honest. I remember her beauty. And her smile. That smile that warmed my heart everytime. And everytime she said: "Not yet, Adrian." That is all Death ever said to me. "Not yet." And she said it with a love that broke my heart open and filled me with joy. In the midst of all these barrages, blood and corpses. She gave me the love that took everything away. "Not yet, Adrian". I remember it. Everytime, I met her. She gave me that love. "Not yet."
Did anyone realize soldier of heaven is still in the top 20 music? At least in finland it is at spot 15 today. No womder everybody says it is a masterpiece as always! Thanks for the music sabaton. The worst day in history will be the day you dont do music anymore. Hopefully that day doesnt come!!!!!!!!
@Lorenzo Smit i would not say i wonder why but soldier of heaven is a month old already and its still in the top 20 in finland. Just shows how amazing it is
This Mad Pirate lost an eye, got shot in nearly every organ he had, tore off he's own fingers before they sawed off he's arm because it was so bad and still lived to be 83 years old! To say he was Mad would be an understatement and even Death didn't want to mess with him till he passed on he's way! Great Respect for Sir Adrain Carton De Wiart!
The thing I love most about this video is the foreshadowing at the begining with the red cross recruitment posters and ambulances. The song is a tribute to Sir Adrian de Wiart, but the video is almost a tribute to the nurses and doctors on the front lines.
Props to sabaton for travelling back in time to try to kill this man in order to create the legend that they would sing today. But most importantly, props to the medical officer who heals just by touching with her hands.
Man survived all his injuries, 2 plane crashes, and a POW camp then wrote “Frankly, I had enjoyed the war” and he died in his sleep at 83 what a legend
Death had to take him in his sleep, just like he did with Teddy Roosevelt, cause if he was awake, he would have kicked death's ass again and took his lunch money.
Whether it was "Christmas Truce", "Soldier of Heaven" or now The Unkillable Soldier, these songs all scream to be put on repeat, a testament to how good Sabaton are. Absolutely amazing!! \m/
Christmas Truce, f**K yeah. Winter Soldier, sure, not their best but solid spot on playlists. Before that with Defense and Steel commanders, awesome songs. Now here comes Unkillable Soldier, way below average, one of the worst Sabaton songs in ages...imho
I love how fun Sabaton is, these guys love having a good time you can tell! Having their friend Indy go from co-hosting their Sabaton history episodes to acting the role of the man they're singing about! Excellent form Sabaton! One of the oh so many reasons we love you!
@@Sabaton Thank you guys! From the moment I heard your music and saw your videos I was an immediate fan (and the fact that I'm a Pole and the first song I heard was 40:1 didn't have anything to do with it I'm sure 😁). Speaking of fun and funny stories, I was playing PUBG with a friend the other day and I was getting shot but my buddy kept carrying me to safety, so at the end of the match I put on "The Ballad of Bull". It seemed fitting, lol!
War breaks some men, some men break war. Sir Adrian is a prime example of why aliens won't invade. As a Brit - previously unaware of this man - massssssive thanks to Sabaton for this. 10/10 Would salute to the end.
I personally think Britain is destined to divide into England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland. The Uk historically is a country that has been very England first, with them being the ones invading everyone else. And I think the cultures of the rest of Britain is ever endangered by England, who have for instance almost killed the other countries' languages, especially Cornish.
@@semorebutts2584 interesting however i doubt that would ever happen and i doubt htey are endangered anymore also are you from the uk out of ccuriosity plus you say its because of england which is not as black and white as you say it is
The Scots might leave but they will want to come back pretty soon last time they were independent they spent all their money on the Darien scheme and Poyais (and that wasn't a real place)
Also, it occurs to me that I saw a fascinating fan theory about the MV; as it notes, Carton de Wiart was of both Belgian and Irish descent- so some people came up with the idea that the nurse that we see throughout the video is "The Mórrígan", the Celtic Goddess of War and Fate, come to claim Adrian as her personal champion, and that each time he was felled, she comes and revives him, to fight on for her glory.
-Born with massive balls of steels -Get shot in the eye -Get shot more and lose a hand -Survive 2 plane crashes -Survive a POW Camp -Write "Frankly, I had enjoyed the war" -Walks all of it off -Died in his sleep at 83 this guy is unreal
This one was a bit more comical than other Sabaton songs. But you know what? Adrian was so comically badass, that it actually fits. Great job you guys. You never fail to honor history with your songs.
@@TheDaviKill Yeah. That's my one nitpick about this video. You'd think Sabaton would know what uniform field nurses wore back then. Other than that, this was an entertaining video.
Sir Adrian Carton De Wiart is like the protagonist in 2 different game installments called "World War 1" and "World War 2". Its pretty impressive how he survived in both games. Edit: goddamn didn't even know this comment existed
This guys life story reads like a fairy tale! I love how Sabaton always introduces me to these people and stories; here are some tid-bits from his life: "In 1908 he married Countess Friederike Maria Karoline Henriette Rosa Sabina Franziska Fugger von Babenhausen (1887 Klagenfurt - 1949 Vienna), eldest daughter of Karl, 5th Fürst (Prince) von Fugger-Babenhausen and Princess Eleonora zu Hohenlohe-Bartenstein und Jagstberg of Klagenfurt, Austria. " AND "While out on his observation train, he was attacked by a group of Red cavalry, and fought them off with his revolver from the footplate of his train, at one point falling on the track and re-boarding quickly." AND "He met Mao Zedong at dinner and had a memorable exchange with him, interrupting his propaganda speech to criticise him for holding back from fighting the Japanese for domestic political reasons. Mao was briefly stunned, and then laughed"
Dude is the real life equivalent of an FPS protagonist. No matter how much damage the dude takes, he just comes back for more and dishes out even more damage towards his foes. Major respect to Adrian Carton de Wiart from the Philippines.
This man literally had everything going against him but he loved every second of it and came back for more. He would have lived a great live and easy without joining and leaving for war but he chose to and challenged war itself. A literal legend. God, this album is already a blast and all the songs left look so promising too. I literally can't wait.
His book is a literal masterpiece. He met, everyone, and rarely had a bad word to say about them. The quote at the end is more powerful than the one everyone remembers, to me. “Plus ça change plus c’est la même chose.”
''He was shot in the face, head, stomach, ankle, leg, hip, and ear; was blinded in his left eye; survived two plane crashes; tunnelled out of a prisoner-of-war camp; and tore off his own fingers when a doctor declined to amputate them.'' Well that's a hell of a way to fight in the war.
British isles military, fighting insanely going back at least to Nelson (who one naval history UA-camr pondered if his real name was Leeroy Jenkins). 👍🏻
I'm so glad that I'm not the only person who noticed this. So, my question now is... how many subscribers do I need talking about Sabaton songs to get into one of their music videos?
Besides the pumping and galopping song, I also really digged the gleefully tragicomical approach you had for the music video, including all the goofs you put in there, starting from Indy's Charlot-like walk at the beginning, to his period inaccurate Tommy gun, to the modern era nurse, to the pump-shotgun reloading sound effect when he cocks the hammer of the revolver. It's all so over the top that perfectly fits with the character. :D
Right?? It really seems like they went for the goofs this time around, like "This is just such a silly tale, this guy surviving all that, we have to bring a comedic edge to this"
It really threw me off, and the nurse not wearing a mask. It just seemed wrong? I kept expecting her to play an important role, like sing a verse or something.
Nobody wrote it before so ill be the guy to write it: The fact that you somehow convinced indy neidell to get brutalized by your entire band for the sake of making a light hearted video about a very very legendary soldier shows that you guys have grown to gether so much closer then just people who happen to work together, and somehow makes me happy. Indy also is a great figure for videos. He fits. I hope this is the compliment i think it is.
I'm really happy to see how much fun Indy Neidell and the Sabatons had during the filming of this. It just makes watching it even more fun! Here's hoping to see more of the guys together in the next music videos.
I can only imagine how happy Indy must be being able to play out roles like these for your music videos. Epic piece, both visually and of course musically!
I highly recommend his biography "My Odyssey" in which he gave his biography and his thoughts, whether purely military or plitical. Throughout his service he was shot in the ankles, face, head, thigh, hip, abdomen and crotch. He lost an ear, an eye and his left hand, had his fingers bitten off when a doctor refused to amputate them, survived two plane crashes and escaped through an underground tunnel in a POW camp. He was friends with Józef Piłsudski, Winston Churchill and Chiang Kaj-Shek. He took part in the Second Boer War, the Great War, the Polish-Bolshevik War, the Polish-Ukrainian War, the Polish-Lithuanian War and the Second World War.
INDY!!! So glad to see the madman himself in another music video, and the STAR again, to boot! Awesome video, awesome song. Can’t wait for the Sabaton History episode on this one (Indy better be in costume or I’ll be so sad :/). Super excited for the rest of the album!

The Drums in my opinion are really selling the Song. At the Chorus 1:08 you can really hear it well, the Energy comes from the Drums and push the Song forward, combined with the powerful guitars which are assisting the Drums. (I think because of the Drum Pattern, which is very unique in comparison to other Sabaton Songs it feels so pushy). Like the Unkillable Soldier pushed always forward. Amazing!!! But thats just a little Detail, overall its again typically Sabaton like, high Quality Production... in my opinion the Sounds effects are again a bit loud, but its the official Music Video... i am looking forward to the Lyric Video
I love how Sabaton more or less said to Indy "We're really happy and grateful for all the work you've done for our history Channel. So we're gonna reward you by kicking the shit out of you in our next music video"

I love how these videos are laid out like a well produced war movie. The production values are through the roof! The song itself is glorious and infectious; absolute CLASSIC Sabaton. This new album might very well be their MAGNUM OPUS so far. I've said this about a couple of other albums that have been released since the new year, but maybe the rest from touring and the pandemic have given the band time to breathe, relax, get inspired and come back with their best work of their already storied careers.
@@Historybuffm8I'm pretty sure It's a reference to some post-war films. They playout very much like this. some heroic leader and his squad taking on epic battles and suriviving. Very clear studio shots, random equipment and many "goofs" with equipment, forces present or who the characters are representing.
sir adrian carton de wiart is probably the epitome of why i love the genre of 'humans are space orcs' and r/hfy i LOVE the idea of humans being the ONE species in the universe that is just so durable and just so fucking BONKERS we leave other races wondering just how in the fuck we survived to get to where we did. like...this dude would leave alien historians scratching their goddamn heads as to how he ended up the way they did before they just...metaphorically flip the table in frustration and conclude that our entire species is just insane XD
This song is so upbeat and lively! But I gotta be honest, I never expected to crack up laughing throughout a video. It was so over the top and dark. I loved it. I truly never expected to watch the entire band gang up try to gleefully kill Indy. On top of Indy's acting with all pomp and circumstance? Just one word for this: ICONIC.
I know, right? The production values were noticeably lower than some of their other videos, but watching Indy clearly having the time of his life as he chewed the scenery to bits was an absolute joy 😊
Just started reading “Happy Odyssey”, Sir Adrian Carton De Wiart’s memoir. REALLY enjoying it so far. This song is AMAZING!!! Edit: finished “Happy Odyssey”, it was GREAT!!!
I love how the video shows, that medics in the World War were wery important. Almost everyone only talks about the soliders, what they survived(however all of the soliders are hero's) without medics, the war would be deadlier. And the other way the song shows the 'Unkilleble Solider' who survived almost anything that can be survived in the war, half-blinded, shooted everywere... It's just amazing how Sabaton put all they effort into something, it has a big, and important meaning!❤
Yep, a But as much as I love the video and music, that nurse has ruined the whole impression. That's not how nurses were dressed during WWI, they didn't wear trousers or show their cleavage with unbuttoned shirt, she also wears latex gloves that were not invented till 1964... I do really hope that next time they'll do better job with side characters. Other than that, I loved it!
@@abmackay there's a actually a theory in the comments that shes the morrigan from celtic and Belgian legend, a war goddess, who kept keeping him from dying to fight in the name of her glory
This is the reason I love Sabaton. Listen to the song, enjoy the song, become curious about the history behind the song, read about it and learn about the deeds of some insane mad lad 100 years ago.
Out of all his injuries, I think him getting shot in the back of the head with a sniper round and still fighting is his most ridiculous act. Not saying it didn't happen, but jesus, what does it take to put this man down?
I hope when the coroner did his report he labeled the cause of death: Divine Intervention Because I am convinced no force on earth could kill this man.
This is one of the best music videos I have seen in a long time (Christmas Truce still tops this) and during the whole time of watching the video I was smiling due to the fact that Indy's acting is brilliantly funny. Also, when you take his and Sabaton's connection into consideration is all the more funnier that they shoot him and celebrate. Cracks me up every time 🤣. But the song is great and I can't wait for March 4
@@miriammariarojaslopez1276 Yeah the music video reads as the strange relationship between a nurse and her unhinged patient. "seriously, we have to stop meeting like this, people will start talking..." :D

The history of this hero was unknown to me before, thanks to Sabaton, thanks to you I learned for myself the name and history of this unique person! He was a real soldier and deserves eternal memory and glory!
I love how much Indy is enjoying his role. He's so entertaining that I can't watch the music video without laughing and I still see it when I'm listening to the album in the car. One of my favorite things about this song is how the pre-chorus reverses itself lyrically. It's small but I've never heard anything like it before. Edit: And as a Lovecraft fan, I would say the edge of madness is exactly where this man lived. The real life Leroy Jenkins.
It does not matter what ethnicity or nationality you are…so long as there’s a Sabaton song to unify us through music and stories. Thanks for a another great vid.

All's fine until "Born a soldier, enjoyed the war" WtF why am i crying over something like this and moving moments in movies or videos leave me completely cold?!
I think it's because it's the story of someone willing to sacrifice greatly. You are made in the image of God, and he sacrificed greatly (sent his son Jesus) to reconcile himself to you. If you are willing to accept and trust him. Peace
I don't listen to much Sabaton these days because I've listened to them so much, but I always look forward to your new songs. And this one, just like the last few you made, is a certified banger.
I have watched and listened to this song over 30 times and I still get goosebumps from the video and song. Still can't believe he survived all these events and wanted to keep fighting and not leave the war.
Can we talk about how the woman who is a nurse in the video is basically a goddess. Like I'm getting strong Morrigan vibes. It's almost as if she was like nope it's not your time yet so I'll give you the healing and strength you need to keep fighting. Basically I feel like she gives him courage and was like now go back out there on the field of battle, fight with my fury and be a badass.
this just proves that sabaton really are just timeless, immortal beings that have arrived to our times to teach us history this time round through music.

Fought in Africa, wanted more
Back in Europe then straight to France
He's joining the allied advance
Through the Somme and the Devil's Wood
All the battles that he withstood
Born a soldier, enjoyed the war
He always kept coming for more
Never die, shot through the eye
Never surrender however they try
How they try, shot through the eye
He'll never die
At the edge of madness, in a time of sadness
An immortal soldier finds his home
Proven under fire, over trench and wire
No fear of death, he's unshakeable
In the battles, when he was shot
Kept on fighting, and never stopped
In Arras, Cambrai, Passchendaele
Ignoring his wounds he prevailed
Save the day, he'll never stray
Facing the foes that are coming his way
Come his way, he'll never stray
Saving the day
At the edge of madness, in a time of sadness
An immortal soldier finds his home
Proven under fire, over trench and wire
Forged for the war, he's unbreakable
At the edge of madness, he will show no sadness
Never broken, he'll be back for more
Proven under fire, over trench and wire
No fear of death, he's unshakeable

This is a great song, though they didn’t use Thompson submachine guns in WWI. That’s my only issue with this song
@@Historybuffm8I'm pretty sure It's a reference to some post-war films.
They playout very much like this. some heroic leader and his squad taking on epic battles and suriviving. Very clear studio shots, random equipment and many "goofs" with equipment, forces present or who the characters are representing.
@@Historybuffm8 it's a parody of war films because of how crazy his real life experiences were. That's why they have a modern looking nurse etc
"The pinnacle of any person's military career: When Sabaton write a song about you."
- Shane Walta
This man had so much steel in his balls that Sabaton time travelled back to harvest it for their songs… And he still fought on.
sir adrian carton de wiart is probably the epitome of why i love the genre of 'humans are space orcs' and r/hfy
i LOVE the idea of humans being the ONE species in the universe that is just so durable and just so fucking BONKERS we leave other races wondering just how in the fuck we survived to get to where we did. like...this dude would leave alien historians scratching their goddamn heads as to how he ended up the way they did before they just...metaphorically flip the table in frustration and conclude that our entire species is just insane XD
unfathomably based
Maybe that's why they don't contact us
@@Tzar1 more that the equation keeps having zeros in to see if any could.
@@Tzar1 a entire species of immortal soldiers would do that to you
This song is so upbeat and lively!
Огромная работа по продвижению Истории, как таковой. Спасибо вам за это.
Бесконечное уважение.
Какая нафиг история? Патлатые немцы или автомат Томпсона в 1ю мировую?

Just started reading “Happy Odyssey”, Sir Adrian Carton De Wiart’s memoir. REALLY enjoying it so far. This song is AMAZING!!!
Edit: finished “Happy Odyssey”, it was GREAT!!!
Just bought it for my step dad for Father's Day. He loves war books and I'm hoping this legend has gone under the radar for him
.
Yep, a
But as much as I love the video and music, that nurse has ruined the whole impression. That's not how nurses were dressed during WWI, they didn't wear trousers or show their cleavage with unbuttoned shirt, she also wears latex gloves that were not invented till 1964... I do really hope that next time they'll do better job with side characters. Other than that, I loved it!
@@WaltherMotU nor did they have thompson SMGs in WW1. It's a music video not a documentary
@@Peoples_Republic_of_Devonshire I know it's not documentary, but somehow the nurse hit me way more as put of place then Thompson.
@@WaltherMotU I think she might be there just to make sure that everyone knows that this video is firmly tongue in cheek 😏

uhhh, today, there are nukessss sooooooooooo, there's that
@@itsnotwhatyouthink Back then nukes didn't exist yet.
This is the reason I love Sabaton. Listen to the song, enjoy the song, become curious about the history behind the song, read about it and learn about the deeds of some insane mad lad 100 years ago.
There were no video games or internet back then, Sir Adrian couldn't play online as an FPS protagonist. So he became one instead.
Out of all his injuries, I think him getting shot in the back of the head with a sniper round and still fighting is his most ridiculous act. Not saying it didn't happen, but jesus, what does it take to put this man down?
Old age. And that's because he _chose_ that.
Old age just couldn't fight anymore
Nothing but time apparently. My man was unkillable. Bless his warrior soul.
I think death himself had a restraining order against him, feared for his life...
When he felt like it
I hope when the coroner did his report he labeled the cause of death: Divine Intervention
Because I am convinced no force on earth could kill this man.
What if he just wanted to fight in a war in the afterlife?
This is one of the best music videos I have seen in a long time (Christmas Truce still tops this) and during the whole time of watching the video I was smiling due to the fact that Indy's acting is brilliantly funny. Also, when you take his and Sabaton's connection into consideration is all the more funnier that they shoot him and celebrate. Cracks me up every time 🤣.
But the song is great and I can't wait for March 4
Thank you!
@@Sabaton with that nurse... we all would want to get shot at least every two months
Lol, I first saw this as an advert. I was transfixed.
Agree on Christmas Truce!
@@miriammariarojaslopez1276 Yeah the music video reads as the strange relationship between a nurse and her unhinged patient. "seriously, we have to stop meeting like this, people will start talking..." :D
I love how fun this video is-the Sabaton crew just constantly getting annoyed that he was STILL ALIVE was hilarious, you can tell they enjoyed the German experience lol.
What do you mean the pre-chorous reverses itself lyrically?
I thought he looked like Indy
It does not matter what ethnicity or nationality you are…so long as there’s a Sabaton song to unify us through music and stories. Thanks for a another great vid.
Thank you for your message Alejandro
@@Sabaton 😮 wow I can’t believe I got a response from a legendary band…hopefully your music will make it onto the pages of history. Much love and appreciation for your work and thank you.
I dont know why this song hits me in the face everytime. this song always makes me cry, not in sadness but something completely different i have no answer for. All's fine until "Born a soldier, enjoyed the war"
WtF why am i crying over something like this and moving moments in movies or videos leave me completely cold?!
you are looking at the Real thing
same here
I think it's because it's the story of someone willing to sacrifice greatly. You are made in the image of God, and he sacrificed greatly (sent his son Jesus) to reconcile himself to you. If you are willing to accept and trust him. Peace
@@bri13wvu1Amen. May God bless you.
I don't listen to much Sabaton these days because I've listened to them so much, but I always look forward to your new songs. And this one, just like the last few you made, is a certified banger.
There is never too much Sabaton!
Sir Adrian's bravery is very commendable may the unkillable soldier's legacy live on forever!

I'm Indy Neidell and today in Sabaton History, I will show you how to join the British army !
This man is legendary. Back in roman times this man would've inspired son of Zeus storys like Hercules
She legit went for the 'Nurse too angry to die' tactic
I'm distracted by her wearing pants. Pretty sure that was "out of uniform" back then.
Why doesnt she have any blood on clothes? 😅
@@ivotrulley She doesn't fit in the video imo
I feel like he get himself into all of that just to go back to her.
I see the Nurse as a kind of Angel or the Death, protect him just because he's got the spirit of a Brave Soldier
Probably his guardian angel
"your time has not yet come, now get back on your feet and fight like you have always done."
this just proves that sabaton really are just timeless, immortal beings that have arrived to our times to teach us history this time round through music.
