- I was asked to take my Rover SD1 Police car to the Mach Loop in Wales for some filming for a most excellent tv program. Jon's stunning avocado green series 1 2.6 was also there lighting up the valleys.
If you are interested in the Police car, the full story of its restoration can be found if you google Rover SD1 Lancashire Police car and look for the blog on the retrorides website.
Cool. I did wonder if it was yours. I like car SOS; Fuzz is cool, but Tim always has to prat about pretending to blag stuff.
In real life his actually totally sound and incredibly funny. Take a look at some of the stuff he did on Balls of Steel!
Yep as useful and annoying as Mike Brewer and equally clueless about how a car actually works beyond turning the key.
Bumped onto Tim a few times. Always willing to chat and polite
Tim's a nice guy, the pratting around is just for show.
That old two-tone police siren. A proper police car. 👍
Yeah i love giving it a blast. It took me ages to find the correct trumpets to make it sound right. If you go back through my old videos or just search for testing 1980' police horns i did a video
Loved this thanks. The 2 tone Police siren brought back some memories!!
Fantastic cars the SD1 still looks a great car i use to work for British Leyland when these were new had 3 or 4 myself back in the day loved them.
Still the best looking large saloon car ever built 👍
Some years ago I needed a cheap car short term for work whilst my own car had its gearbox rebuilt and bought an old Rover 3.5 for £150. It came with 3 month tax as well! Apart from a slight oil leak it ran perfectly and I used it for a month then sold it for £300!
In 1989 I bought SD 1 V8 at ex
Northamptonshire police car @ police auction in Oxford.... It had 130K on the clock, but when plugged into Rovercom diagnostics engine ECU
showed 670k miles 😱😬
I saw the episode the other week, and I was amazed that anyone would let that idiot anywhere near their car.
Middle aged men passing by in their cars must have had heart failure seeing your car and hearing THAT siren! lol What a brilliant video. Thank you for sharing it and what a beautiful car you Police Rover is 🤠
I Often think off the Avocado Rover. Its a lovely car . I think it was originally registered in the lakes. I visited the Beaulieu Autojumble with my dad some years ago where it was for sale ,and we were both very taken with it, how couldn't you be? I would have loved to have bought it but it wasn't to be and its one of the cars you look back at and think i should have bought that. It had 26000 miles on the clock a raft of paperwork and it still had the original plastic covering on the seats. It was for sale for £1495. Hard to believe. I often wondered what had happened to it then on visiting pride of longbridge in 2015 we got to see the car again and it looked just as nice. Its good to know its in good hands.
I used to own one identical. It had belonged to my friends grandad who bought it as his retirement car and it spent most of its years in a warm dry garage, but unfortunately the metal mouse still got into it around the rear wheels. I also had the water pump fail on it one night trying to get home in awful weather. Car left me stranded and the head warped, so took it off myself, had it refurbished and skimmed and put it all back together. Car ran like a dream once it was finished. Sold it on. It was certainly an eye catcher in that avocado Green.
The best sounding police car I´ve ever heard ! Cheers from Sweden
Thanks Hans. I will do a longer video on the Police car when i get some time and record the sound from outside!
In 1989 I bought SD 1 V8 at ex Northamptonshire police car @ police auction in Oxford....
It had 130K on the clock, but when plugged into Rovercom diagnostics engine ECU showed 670k miles 😮🤦
Fuzz was the drummer in Pop Will Eat Itself, which is quite notable. Rovers are looking splendid in the misty twisty valleys. Must be nice to be getting some well deserved recognition from how well you've restored that police SD1 🙂
I wonder what Tim's reason was for pulling over Fuzz? Excessively funky paint job, probably
I went to festival in Brighton probably 30 years ago his band was supposed to be there, I’d never heard of them but the goths were throwing a fit lol
Wow another great video, I would’ve thought Fuzz would’ve been driving the police car hence the name Fuzz. Tim makes me laugh such a scrounger but he gets the job done. Wether it’ll be for TV, but they work so well as a team. Thanks for the entertainment great show. Do you ever do shows down south?? I live in Portsmouth.
Yeah I took it to the emergency services show/day at Bournemouth a couple of years ago
Great stuff James.. quite an experience i bet.. Just a quick question.. Why didn't the police put the stripes on the doors??
Some of them did but mine, D822GEC and it’s sister cars D821GEC and D825GEC and all the earlier Lancashire cars just had wing stripes. The later car D828GEC had the full stripes. Why they did or didn’t I don’t know? Cost?
Probably! Or ...they just couldn'gt be arsed to cut round the door handles 🤣😂
Really interesting. Are Tim and Fuzz the same in person as they are on camera? I always found Tim rather irritating! I'd love a vintage police car one day...
I watched this episode, I thought the Police rover was yours! Both rovers from Cumbria originally, great to get an insight on how it’s done! Brilliant! Thanks for sharing!
No problem, yeah the Police car did its service based at Ormskirk and Skelmersdale, 1986 to 1989
Like Fuzz can't be arsed with the other one
Mustang might be glam but the Rovers stole the show !
I hooked up the laptop to the stereo to get the full sound of that Mustang , lovely stuff.
Brilliant video, and that rover V8 police car sounds sublime 👍
In that valley it sounded brilliant. Wish i had a better microphone.
Excellent! Did they have to get special permission to use the two tones and lights?
I love the way the Mustang was struggling to get up to 2000 rpm! 🤣😂🤣😂
Another great video. Love the scenery and all the cars. Great fun.
Excellent, what a fantastic day that looks.. playing cops and robbers!
I'm interested to know how they locked out the back door on the Vito? I've driven one of them with the boot open and it's not as stable as that ,😄
What a great day out and nice to see you hard work being put to use with the filming
I know I shouldn't be doing it......., derrr, then don't, you just videod yourself driving and holding a phone...... 🙄🤦♂️
What a fascinating day you had which will certainly add interest to your cars history. I must admit I stopped watching Car SOS as Tim Shaw just got on my nerves. He's probably a different bloke 'off screen'. Fuzz I always liked and respected as he's knowledgeable in mechanics and doesn't fool around. You're right about Continuity which must be a right headache with so many 'takes'......still, thats what they get paid for and I expect it pays a decent salary too!
After having gone down a major rabbit hole with your videos - we watched them all over the last 2 weeks - my wife and I bought a 92 216SLi to have a crack at putting back on the road. Currently a non-runner but we are looking forward to getting stuck into it. Keep up the good work fella and maybe we will see you at a show sometime soon!
Good work! They are good little cars. Is it manual or auto? I dont know where you are in the country but i can recommend the Pride of Longbridge show which is sat 15th April at Crofton Park Birmingham. I can make it unfortunately :(
@@nitrosilvia It's a manual. Got it running, turned out to just be the igniter module ao was a simple fix. Will be on to the welding next as thats probably the biggest task and no doubt will get bigger as I dig in. We were at POL yesterday, was a great day and I'm determided to have it at the next one.
Great vid, i have wondered before if your police car did tv work.
Those Avocado SD1's are 10 a penny now lol
It's the guys from Carsos Tim Shaw and Fuzz Townsend (John Richard Keith)
I have just gone back rewatch the show to look for the people standing around in the background at the car park. When the final shot of the police car going down the road there is a bend, it takes sweep out to the right on a left hand bend for some reason.
Nice shots of the TIE fighters.😉
Ahh yeah that was me driving in that shot. Just makes the corner wider :)
I came to look at the Rovers not a piece of crap Ford that had trouble keeping up with the camera van
Nice SD1's fella's.
Low level high octane in the Mach loop 🏁🤠
the puurrrr from that vintage mustang is somthing ! sounds like its in a happy mood and content with being filmed cop car looks intresting 10:06 love the siren i think ill recomed this to a friend whos a geek for 2 tone sirens i can remember being in car with him near were i use to live were new fire station is and eegally chantingfor a fire truck to do 2 tones (witch sadly it didnt do)
I've never seen a jam sandwich without the red stripe on the doors before
Just finished watching the episode, That team did a great job on Darren's car and after what he'd been through he deserved it, but credit where it's due James, Your SD1 looked beautiful too both inside and out, and I think you appreciate it more when you do the restoration yourself :)
Yeah i havent seen the car in the flesh, but looked nice in the show. Couple of detail bits they missed but they explained the reasons on their facebook page
I distinctly noticed how the Mustang avoided the puddles 😅😊😅😊
Yeah it arrived on a transporter. Im not sure the guy uses it much.
Fabulous, it must have been a great day.
Brillant - oh and good morning from Germany
Great wee video James did wonder if it was your SD1 that they had used for the SOS episode, What a great honour for your car to be used true testament to all your hard work it’s a beautiful SD1, Was a great episode on the SD1 to you could have given them great pointers 👍
Hahah i did give them a couple of bits of advice on teh electronic choke carbs and front bushes. Not sure if they did what i said.
Would have been class if they had got you involved in the sos workshop 👍
That was a good episode with the Rovers.
Cool video guys that brought back sum nostalgic memories I remember the jam butties as we use to call me back in the day in London lol 👍♥️
I think I need to see the SD1 Car SOS, shame I can't access it yet on utube, I hear Jay Leno also makes an appearance!!!
Good morning James
Directors draw up a storyboard in filming order so that's how they keep track as it's all planned before they get there
Thats so cool to see behind the scenes of car SOS! I've met Tim and Fuzz in real life and I can confirm that they are just as mad in real life as they are on TV haha. I also know the Mach Loop really well as I live fairly near by and am a massive aviation fan which for me makes this even cooler.👍😎
they missed a bit when the cop gets him out of the car ,the cop should of kicked the s-it out of him would of been true to life then,,,,,
80's policing style
I'm sure Hubnut was following that when it was on a trailer in one of his road trip video's
Looked like seen from dempsey makepeace 😂😂
Apart from the lack of explosions!
I bet that’s was a fantastic day. I remember when this was pulled out of a garage, I thought it was a brave restoration. But what an awesome restoration
Mmmmmmmmm. 270 miles driving your SD1. Sounds good to me!
Fantastic to hear how much better the Rover sounds than the Mustang
My Dad used to drive these in the police, still got a pic of me as a young kid sat in an early marked rangerover V8 at the HQ when he took me in one day. Used to come home in no end of cool stuff like the Carlton, Senator 24V, unmarked Impreza turbo 2000's, Cavalier V6's, ST24, ST220 and of course the 850/V70 T5's throughout the years.
The Mustang sounded good. The P6 sounded better.
That's the closest I've come to being famous. That's my Renault parked next to the Rover at the Ship. 😂
No way, small world!
I think that was Yul Brynner in the mustang!
It's been so so long since I heard proper nee-naws on a police car.
Was anyone actually arrested?? 🚓🚨
mustang sd1 SD1 all day long
Wow that must have been an awesome day ❤
9:53 damn she sounds good :)
Where is that lake ?.
Brilliant to see and hear the police car heading off at full chat .
Its near Minffordd Wales
Hilarious!
Car SOS is such a dreadful program, hardly even a Car thing, can't bear to watch the fake pap. Love the SD1s. V8? From an eara of astounding unreliability
