Bruce's life lesson: When life presents obstacles, be like water. Rather than go against the current and resistance of Hollywood, he went with the flow. He stopped trying to force success. He stopped struggling and let go. He went away to a foreign land to meditate, contemplate, and regroup. He came back to the states and he conquered the movie world. Mission Accomplished.
Actually is Warner Bro’s who went to Hong Kong to shoot Enter the Dragon, not Bruce Lee returned to USA but apparently that was his plan if only he didn’t die...
I left Hong Kong for the US in the summer of 1969 to attend college, a life-changing event I definitely would remember. Just before that, I watched man landing on the moon on live TV, and BL doing a demo also on life TV. In fact, I watched the kungfu demo by BL together with my dad, and we were both absolutely awe-struck. I never heard a thing about BL since until the news that he had passed away. It was then that I realized how much I have lost. RIP, Bruce.
@Nic777 Well, I was just kidding you -- I couldn't have remembered all the details in an event that happened some half a century ago. But I can tell you this, as I am fluent in Cantonese, I can understand BL's Hong Kong colleagues when they talk about Bruce Lee and there are these two episodes that you can still find on UA-cam. Although the conversation is in Cantonese, you can still watch how they described in with their expressions and gestures: 1) Sammo Hung had somewhat of a run-in with BL when they first met. BL mistook Sammo's compliment as being sarcasm and asked him whether he wanted to spar. Sammo couldn't back down and reluctantly agreed. Just as they began, BL's kick was already at Sammo's chin before he had time to move at all. At that Sammo quickly realized how good BL was and they became good friends ua-cam.com/video/H8BBCRiaOYA/v-deo.html 2) There's a well-respected Hong Kong actor he was a close associate of BL and he described an event at a dinner that BL took a can of beer and use his two fingers to jab at the can and managed to punch through the can. ua-cam.com/video/a4ua5oW2qoI/v-deo.html
@thejugador You asked if Bruce sent the guy reeling with side kick, right? Here is the footage. Go to 1:40 in link and see for yourself. No footage exists? Bah! You don’t look very far, do you? ua-cam.com/video/hDM2_uV-grU/v-deo.html
It is illusion. He has received all recognition fully after death and decades after....it wasnt in a one day when he was 32. At the time of death he was a star in hon Kong only. Great job by TVB to keep all these pictures which belong to part of our HK cultural history. It brought back lots of my childhood memories of how much that I could remember what tv broadcasts looked like in the early 70s. I was just too small back then and didn't know Bruce together with his son Brandon had been on EYT for that many times, it just makes me feel like to say that's the great old days. Inside those pictures, some remarkable tv personalities are also well acclaimed and we hardly can have them again. Hope TVB can keep up the great job.

I actually saw this on the TV. The show was Enjoy Yourself Tonight and the MC was Michael Hui! We didn't know him much at that time except he was a child star in local Cantonese movies.
it's a trip in nostalgia to see of course pictures of Bruce from those days and somehow remembering the Chinese celebrities who my mum knew from working in AUSTRALIAN AND Hk tv shows it's just a question of when he became famous and what went into that great post Cheers from the UK!

part 2 comments! hope this doesn't bore you... but just want to shed light on a great BL site called Bruce Lee Lives, tribute forum 54. They have lots and lots of info Bruce Lee fans will find both inspiring and fun. For example, several interviews with stunt men who witnessed Bruce with thai champions; and with the Korean guy in Way of the Dragon: he thought he was the fastest with kicks so Bruce said they should see whose kick was fastest. Every time, Bruce won. Same with the Game of Death hapkido master; in real life he was trainer to military,, etc. and didn't want to lose to Bruce on film. Then after he met Bruce, he changed his mind. One story is that at 180 pounds, he was much heavier than Bruce at 130; but in the scene where Bruce broke the guy's back over his knee, lifting him up: Bruce just did the take again and again, with no problem. Another story is that one evening in Hong Kong Bruce went out dancing with his sister in law. As they walked home, four guys commented on Bruce's loud shirt. Bruce said 'be right back' when she turned around a few seconds later, the four guys were flat on the ground. "What did you do?" "Oh, I just kicked them." Many eyewitnesses said that no one could hold a candle to Bruce; so anyone who says he wasn't the real thing is reading fantasy stories. The best martial artists attest this. Also legends such as Sugar Ray Leonard, Manny Pacquiao. It is a bit of a PO that film bios on Bruce invent things, when they could show his real story and it would be much more exciting.

+Harbinder Flora Back in the 60s and 70s it cost a lot of money to replace film for re-shooting stuff on TV. So everyone would have to tape over other footage. This is also how Doctor Who lost a couple of episodes before it became popular.
these photos are taken after Bruce was snobed by the american entertainment industry back in the racist 1960s at least. china made the most of Bruce lee. america would hav been the best to catch Bruce lee on tv but racism got the better of them
it wasn't due to racism. It was because no one in the American entertainment business, believed that a Chinese actor would be marketable. Just as a white American would not have been marketable in Hong Kong. Bruce explains this in an interview he did.
@Dong Longslapum Sorry, but you don't know that for a fact. Bruce explained this to be a market issue. Also once the US entertainment industry noticed how popular he was in Hong Kong, they immediately signed a picture deal with Warner Bros, which produced Enter the Dragon. This was done in 1972, at the height of the Vietnam conflict. Had nothing to do with racism, only money...
@Help Usall Whatever it was, they even hired David Carradine, a white guy who knew nothing about martial arts to be the main character playing a Shaolin monk wandering in the American wild west for the TV series "Kung Fu". One thing for sure is that there were a lot of sorry people in Hollywood when they saw BL's astounding global success with just the first and only three movies.
I will never understand how they do not have the film of these appearances. They did the same thing when John Lennon Appeared with Elton John on stage. Its beyond belief?
For those who are wondering why there are no footage of these interviews, it was because the show "Enjoy Yourself Tonight" was broadcast live every night. It was a variety show, not just a talk show. In a typical show, they have interview of celebrities, pop singer performances, a few comic performances and games with live audience, etc. Even though the show was broadcast in color, but color TV was relatively new in those days in Hong Kong. My family could only afford a 19-inch Black & White TV. I watched most of those interviews and demonstrations on TV when I was still living in Hong Kong back then. Because of live broadcast, the TV station did not tape the show. Even if they did tape some of the contents, like a few singing performances in the "Operation Relief" charity telethon, most of the tape contents were probably erased and reuse due to tight budget. The technology was analog TV back then, so it was very expensive to archive every live broadcast show on tape. All the pictures shown here were probably taken by the reporters from local newspapers and the staff of TV station.
Why is there no footage of these shows? Bruce was and still is the most famous person to ever have came out of Hong Kong-this is Hong Kong tv and they never kept the footage! Someone is holding on to it for sure.

My dude!
Where can I see the interview of the first photos?
in the final tv show, bruce lee seems to have lost his soul... sadly.
