    Your description at the beginning (around 1:30) is so magical. Sigh. It makes me realize how grateful I am to be alive during the era of abundant retro handhelds that keep growing and getting more capable at a time.
    It's like my younger self (who grew up in the 80's and 90's) gets to be excited every time I fire up my retro handheld because I can play ANYTHING and I can even take it WITH ME?!?!?!
    I'm one of your early subscribers and I'm so glad UA-cam recommended you to me. You make me feel such joy and happiness with your dweeb schtick, I'm sure we'd get along well in real life (attention: NOT a stalker!).

    Hey! Be careful when cutting battery wires, I saw you snipped both wires at the same time with scissors, this means the scissor blades can short the battery.
    It's usually best if you cut each wire individually and at different lengths so that they never touch! :)

    Right on!! I dig this pick as your new “daily driver”. Great compromise point for everything retro 2D but also the early 3D stuff. And the portability/pocketability is still good. For me it’s the same pick except I opted for the 353VS instead of the regular V as a cheapskate lol - no dual boot to Android and less RAM but it still seems to run everything up to Dreamcast pretty smoothly. I’m fine with the stock Anbernic Linux OS tbh but I’m going to do an Ark OS install this weekend and see how I like it - hear great things about it. Anything more powerful or harder to emulate or must play in a horizontal form factor or aspect ratio I’ll use my Odin Pro. Anything beyond that I don’t feel the need to play with a handheld and that’s why I have a gaming laptop I guess. I’d love a deeper dive video on Ark from your perspective - have seen the Retro Game Corps guide but was awhile back and I’ll prob need that to get the install going I’m sure! ☮️

    I have the 353M and it's all this and super pocketable. It's THE device to grab and go for me. Its really versatile (including for watching videos through the Kodi media player), has a (stock) Linux interface that approaches the appeal of Amber Elec, and it has to be the most capable device at its size. If there's something better, I'd love a recommendation but it being so small and coming in black (basically), it's the perfect subtle and discreet device for an adult to kill time in a public place. I always have it. EDIT: by the way apart from Portmaster, I highly recommend the stock firmware. What I did for the ports is I copied my ports over from the 351MP. Almost all of them work perfectly under the 353M stock Linux OS. So, I basically just use postmaster on the 351MP when I want a port and I'm good to go.

    I would recommend you take a look at JelOS, they do updates for Anbernic devices again, they actually do update something like 2 times a week. I personally like it more because it is in my opinion much cleaner then ArkOS. You can use the same ROM sd card, since the file order and folders are the same between the OS’s. So you can just swap out the OS sd card to switch between the OS’s without needing to mess with the Rom folders. :3
    Maybe you can make a compare video between JelOS and ArkOS!

For some reason your hands are an inch or so closer to each other and that seems to make my arms less tired. Yes I also tried holding heavier consoles in my lap, but this feels awkward and fairly tiring.

As a 30-year-old who got into gaming in my mid twenties and started with Pokémon, I went through my DS and 3DS eras and still love both of them. I LOVE the Mini Plus. It's probably my favourite device in terms of look and hand-feel, and pocket factor. The shortcomings are - no TV out, fewer ports, no analog stick (although I could live without that because of the form factor), no portmaster, and as much as I love Onion OS I have to admit that I prefer Emulation Station because of the customization and library management tools.

    • @Agumon5
      @Agumon5 Рік тому

      @@TechDweebAh, ok. That makes sense. For me, I just can't get over the gorgeous look of the RG35XX and Mini plus. Because I grew up with the Genesis, I have a soft spot for 2D 16 bit games, and so those two systems really hit a homerun for me. I almost never play 3D stuff on these portable devices so the analog sticks are really not important to me personally(I also think they ruin a vertical device aesthetics). That said, the more I interact with the retro emulation community, I realize that I'm probably a bit older than most and my priorities are very different. Lots of people really want the 3D systems in their pocket too. And many people are not that nostalgic that they're willing to give up functionality for something that looks more authentic to an original Gameboy.

    Unless you want to consider the RS97 with IPS display and CFW firmware on it but,
    that's still a Nintendo style and the only one I will own as right now it's the only one

    Hi, great video. I’ve been watching your channel for like a month trying to figure out which handheld I should pick up. I am looking for something that can play PS2 games like Grandtheft auto, midnight club and Gran Turismo preferably in 16 x 9. As for the style, ideally something around the same size as a Nintendo switch OLED since that’s what I have right now. I don’t care much if it fits in my pocket. Any suggestions?

    My main for retro is 405m. Better than 353v and way more comfortable. Basically the same size too. Its not much bigger at all.

    This is a great handheld emulator. Got mine off of facebook marketplace. A lot of consoles work and their games. Been tinkering around with it. Changing the operating systems and all that jazz. Able to connect to the tv and have wireless controllers. Fun little machine. Will you be getting the retroid pocket 4/4+?

    Hello, I would be interested in the ArkOS guide. I tried it, and also Jelos, but in the end stayed with the stock OS. When I tested the 3, the stockOS had the best performance for Dreamcast, plus I love the hotkey for auto-fire, for SHUMPS. Thanks! Great stuff

    I have the RG353M and run the stock OS on android and use Daijisho on it. Love the simple use of it scraping all of your games. I love the ability to run it as a console. The Hall effect sticks are big plus as well and the ability of Bluetooth controllers. Great overall daily driver to have with you.

  • @shecklesmack9563
    @shecklesmack9563 10 місяців тому +1

    You nailed it with it being the perfect balance between size and power. Only a bit bigger than Miyoo Mini+/RGXX but can hit N64, DC and PSP (many games look surprisingly fantastic in 4:3--not the least of which being Street Fighter Alpha 3, where the PSP port, which is the best and most feature-rich version, has been stretched to fit widescreen so 4:3 actually squishes it back to normal!) and a ton of ports of nice PC games like Half-Life and Quake. Even the RP3+ is too big and I can't stand Android for whatever reason. I love this thing lots.

    The analog sticks are pretty much a requirement for me. I injured my thumb with too much gaming, so now it hurts to use a d-pad. Would prefer to have the left stick in the prime position, with d-pad moved into a secondary spot.

    I’ve got a couple of 353VS ones, but apart from the great looking clear black colour, there is absolutely nothing I like about it that the RG353PS would not have. Maybe the slight difference in size, but whereas the PS is really comfortable, the VS is awkward and uncomfortable to use, my fingers are entangled. I prefer the horizontal layout, but that never stopped me completing games on the amazing RG280V. I can’t imagine doing that on these other vertical handhelds.

    My main two retro handhelds are the Analogue Pocket and the Anbernic RG405M. I really hope Garlic OS 2.0 will be released soon for the latter.
    Nothing beats the Pocket's screen. Even freaking Game & Watch looks phenomenal on it. The 405M on the other hand has a big 4" screen that has my favorite aspect ratio which is 4:3 since it plays every old TV console perfectly (obviously) while GBA games still look superb on it.

    Mostly at home device, that's what happened to my Switch Lite, and is why I never got an Odin Lite. I needed something that could live in my messenger bag, without wasting space or adding significant weight. 2,8" is too small for my tired eyes, so I basically went with the smallest available 3,5" unit: The RG35XX. Sure, I'll miss out on N64 and DC, but I'm mostly into 16-bit games anyway, and hey, it's smaller, prettier and cheaper than the 353 variants.
