Hitashi son In free time. The pulse is intuitive and free-flowing.

Astrum Music Publications But when you have a 'Free time' time signature, would'n a whole note, then last the entire song ? :d
I mean, when i have 4/4 time signature, i know that a bar = 2 half notes, or 1 whole note. But in free time, how should a half note or a whole note be understood ?

+Hitashi son It sounds like you're confusing "pulse" and "meter" (or "signature"). Pulse can exist independent of any meter. There is no meter in this song, but the pulse seems to be at the quarter note, and is free & flexible. A whole note still requires four quarter-note "pulses", a half-note two "pulses", but the pulse is flexible. It's rather like chant. There is a pulse, but no meter, per se.

David E So in a single bar, there could be any amount of whole notes ;D ?
