- Опубліковано 13 чер 2020
- From our homes during isolation, we recorded this beautiful setting of The Lord's Prayer. The setting is by the Russian composer Nikolay Kedrov (1871 - 1940), who spent his life in St. Petersburg, Berlin and in Paris. The setting comes from his larger work 'Liturgy of St John Chrysostom'.
-
Patrick Dunachie - countertenor
Edward Button - countertenor
Julian Gregory - tenor
Christopher Bruerton - baritone
Nick Ashby - baritone
Jonathan Howard - bass
-
Sound engineering & mixing: Nicholas Girard

WOOW! im shocked! I just went back from Church Service and we sing this prayer EVERY Sunday Liturgy in Orthodox Church!!!! But i prefecr Sretensky Monastry version!!!!! GOOD JOB THOUGHT
What I find so interesting in following the music is seeing how little movement there is in each part and yet as they relate to each other you hear movement and complexity. It goes to prove, once again, how beautiful and complex simplicity can be.
Girl, you explained choral writting in 2 sentences, good job and good ear!
@@vetlerradio thank you.
@@stephanieellis5399 For real, my choral teacher would love to hear that, especially to tell it to first graders!
@@vetlerradio feel free to quote or paraphrase. 😁
This is a very well-loved "Our Father" for that reason - it's absolutely beautiful, yet not so difficult that it's beyond a half-decent church choir. We use it in the OCA (in English) a lot.
Amazing... beautiful... we will be singing it at our wedding...
Da applausi !!! Grazie !!!
Thank you for this divine performance!! Please know that it really captures the essence and meaning of the piece, the lyrics, the sanctity...may you keep singing for many years!
Обалдеть, какой правильный подход к звуку!!!! Спаси Вас БОГ!!!! Просто невороятное исполнение!!!!
Thank you King Singers for helping me learn the Slavonic version of "Our Father." This is truly a lovely version and their singing is the best.
It was only when I saw "khleb nash" that I realized it was the Our Father. How very beautiful! Спасибо!
"khleb nash" it is "our bread" as you see it is written in lower case because "our Lord" would be "Otche nash" which is the name of this piece in literal translation it is "Lord of our's"
As someone who has sung this in Church at Divine Liturgy, this is simply masterful, you guys. I liked how the bass hit some lower octave notes than the ones written (“nashim” and “Amin”) and I could’ve had more bass overall. I really love it when the bass in Russian music just rattles hearts and windows! I wish there was some way to get you all to come sing an all-night vigil or divine liturgy at my church here in St Louis! And kudos for doing so well with those Slavonic sounds!
I am stunned by the quality of singing. It is both beautiful and profoundly moving. Thank you for sharing this.
1:53 is a point at which it feels like angels have descended to sing on earth.... simply exquisite.
Hi Barry Richardson, this is a prayer. And they DO bring across this prayerful inward turned attitude of silent "movement" toward the higher realms of reality. This is indeed the purpose of music during (orthodox) liturgy:
We turn inward and UP, raising our own vibes toward God
and thus creating an opening, a way, for the angels to turn "down-ward", toward our human world of temporary sojourn.
This is one of my favorite prayers with this particular tune. So comforting...
A genuine blessing, carrying healing properties in its harmonies & beauty. Wishing you all the best, Barry.
This is my favourite composition of the Lord’s Prayer. It’s one of my favourite to sing. I’m Orthodox and I have sang this rendition on many Sunday’s. It is such a fluid and emotional version.
The composer was a pope!
Merci merci merci !
En union de prière pour nos frères et soeurs russes
Acongojantingly beautiful. God bless the new King's Singers
THAT DISSONANCE IN MEASURE 11 IS EVERYTHING AHHH SO GOOD
And lead us not into temptation
Hervorragend interpretiert! Ihr seid Spitze Männer!
Adding the wonderful humility of heart which allows us to sing more beautifully - even in a heavenly way. Perfect pitch allows this combination of sounds, but the one heart joined makes this a perfect combination of heaven and earth...
Fantastisch, absolut Gänsehaut!
PL. Dziękuję serdecznie, za to wspaniale wykonanie Modlitwy Pańskiej.
Ohhhh... My heart cries with grateful tears! Absolute harmony! Amazing! Heaven will certainly hear this prayer! Thanks a lot! Большое спасибо!
Большое спасибо.. many thanks....
As a native Russian speaker I'd like to say, that the King's Singers Russian is very convincing!
upd: yes, technically it is church slavonic, but still, it is very close: if you translate this prayer to modern Russian, no roots would change, only endings and a couple of conjunctions
Tvoh-ye should be Tvah-yo. “Your”
Isn't it Church Slavonic though? There are a few differences (and they do it justice I think). I'm not an expert however, but I've studied a little bit of Russian (I'm Polish) and sung in Church Slavonic (including this piece).
@@majaczepiel4087 it could be that 😊 I am not familiar with it.
@@annar.5341 It is Church Slavonic. They are singing the word твоѥ, which does correspond to Russian твое, but is not pronounced the same. Some other differences to listen for: words that don't exist or are archaic in Russian (like иже in the opening line); giving full value to each vowel, whereas Russian reduces unstressed vowels; pronouncing -ого as written instead of Russian -ово, etc.
Just a few e's are off
Thank you for spiritual singing! God help us all to return to stage and performances!!!
Feel like in a small Russian village in church :-) this is just wow.. 😍😳
choked up---these harmonies so well done just burrow deep into my beingl
Красиво, и благоговейно! Так и продолжайте!!!
I love that I can see the score and sing with you! Beautiful voices!!
Superrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Отлично..👏👏👏👏👏
This is one of the most poignant and lovely pieces of music I've heard this group do.
Beautiful song, and performance.
Absolutely beautiful! Thanks a lot for this wonderful chant! My best wishes from Russia.
I am Czech and I understand almost 90% of the text in Czech it is called "Otce Nas" we are Slavic, our language is Slavic same like Russians, Polish, Serbs, Slovaks, Ukrainians, Belarusians and I am sad, when I see the war in Ukraine and killing Slavic nations, we should keep together as a Slavs and not go against each other, we have same roots, we are Slavic brothers!!!! Let us united Slavic brothers against Anglo -Saxons and Germans who always wanted us as slaves! Hope God will see the same and let us one day live in peace and united Slavic brothers!
Greetings from Russia, my slavic brother. Warm friendly hugs. We shall overcome. ❤❤❤
Thank You For This Beautiful Gift Of Music Gentlemen 🎵
so beautiful! amazing that you were able to be so perfectly blended while in different homes!?! Your sound engineer played a great part, i'm sure, but what a beautiful blend!
Beautiful...thankyou!
Deepest Amen ever heard! Bravo Jonathan! Beautiful!
However it is not in the Russian Orthodox tradition to finish this prayer with "Amen" as there is a priest's exclamation following it, which should be answered with "Amen", but not the actual prayer. But the vocal range of the bass is impressive indeed.
since we learned this song in our choir it has become one of my favorites ....
... and I sing the low C ...😃😃😃
Браво! Perfect! СПАСИБО. Thanks.
Потрясающее исполнение! Слышно каждую партию! Спасибо большое !!!!!🙏
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ - that brought a tear to my eye. How very beautiful indeed! 🙏🏼
I’ll have to see you in concert once the plague is gone.
Wow. My son just chose choir as his music elective for 5th grade and I was looking for videos where there was a score as well as lyrics he could start following along with. And I came upon this after watching Down to the River to Pray. Simple, lush and moving. It took me back to when I first heard the Rachmaninoff Vespers for the first time. Kings Singers - you have a real chance to impact choral music education with this format. Start a series - tiered by level. It doesn't even have to be music you would perform. I would pay $$ for this. In the meantime, thank you!
What A Blessing Of Music Gentlemen🎵

Beautiful. I've had the privilege of singing some portions of the Rachmaninoff Vespers with our choir & there's just something about sacred music sung in Russian that's so moving.
Lindo demais!!!
2+ minutes of pleasure! Thank you. Definitely you need to turn to russian choir music, especially late 20 c., as there a lot of hidden treasures.
Erg mooi! Heel ontroerend.
