Ordered (and still waiting for) the glass A dripper after being so pleased with my V2 and V3 mk1… i was impatient to try it but after watching your video I am even more hyped up about it!
Yay, OREA brewers! I received my Big Boy a few days ago, about ten brews in now, I´m sticking to the "Base" recipe (up to 600g) using 40g coffee. I use up to 660g water to get ~550g coffee out. with a grindsize of 450 micron i get a max TBT 0f 04:40 min depending on the coffee variety. Absolutely love the 3 pour (3x200g) method.
Big Boy I will buy immediately! I brew every morning for my wife and me. I default to a 50g coffee bed and play with ratio's; bottom line, I have always needed a better solution for 800g or so batches; as I feel this part of the marketplace has been ignored as if manufacturers believe all filter coffee is individual. This is it!
@@penyenchi3508 This is great to see. I have been shopping Pulsar and was just waiting for my birthday money coming up to pull the trigger. I think the Pulsar will likely be my daily driver when I get it.
Yeah I think they definitely hit the nail on the head with that one as it’s absolutely been an ignored market segment. Plus, the brews are super nice by comparison to other options that are common for larger batches like the Chemex.
@@hisdesciples the dripper has a really nice recipe card in the box. There are three recipes, each different sizes. I have only done the small one because I am the only coffee drinker in my house, but it is easy to follow and very clear. Your friend is in for some good times.
I pre-ordered the v4 coming from daily v3. It seems to be an all-in-one solution with lots of room to experiment, although I recognize I was truly tempted to get the MKII
I currently have five different filter papers for various drippers, my question is do I want to add yet another specialty, single-purpose filter to my collection? I'm leaning towards no since I don't think any Orea is going to noticeably improve the output over the competing products I already own. Maybe time for a new pour-over comparison video?
Many thanks for the video and insights. Have not got round to buying an Orea 3 Mk1, although I was interested in it. The Mk 2 looks more interesting from a brewed perspective to me. And, I love the glass version !. Choices, choices ... ... Stay safe, everyone.
Yeah they are all solid choices, but to my preference the glass is the top. It is definitely more expensive than your average pour over though. Have a great weekend!
Thanks for the recommendations. I've been looking for a solution for batches of coffee (namely, mine, wife's, our thermoses first thing in the morning) that wasn't a Chemex or percolator. I was even thinking, "hmm, what if I just got a percolator basket and sat it on a carafe.." like a madman
might pick up the glass version although I do wish the base snapped on or was designed into a single piece. It will be my first Orea so I will see if it lives up to the hype.
When I fancy a large cuppa, I'm getting fantastic brews with the Big Boy using Orea's flat type G filters with the negotiator tool. 41 grams of coffee to 650 grams of water.
When it's released I'd be interested on your thoughts of the V4 narrow or V4 wide. I currently use a V60 02 and only do 15-16g to 250ml. Also I'd be interested on your thoughts about comparing the Orea Type C filter papers to the Type G, and also to the Sibarist Fast Flat. Assuming you prefer these and the Negotiator over Kaliita Wave papers. Thanks!
How is the cleaning of the glass Type A? In my experience glass brewers tend to stays too hot to touch after the brew. Does it stay with the base, so you can move and wash it by holding that, or it is just a loose holder?
As a happy V3 user the mkii version doesn’t feel a big enough change to make me switch and, as a solo flier, the Big Boy just isn’t for me. The Glorea however is very interesting. Do we know how well it plays with flat papers and the current Negotiator?
Thank you for mentioning that some people do not want to have plastic brewers leaching chemicals into hot water so they prefer glass. Many people seek plastic free coffee gear for both health and environmental reasons. It would be nice if you did a video one day of all the gear available for people who seek plastic-free brewing.
For sure. Actually found myself enjoying the Big Boy more than I expected, I guess my expectations for bigger batches wasn’t incredibly high. The V4 looks rad, but it’s a ways out, I think January.
Personally, since I have a few previous versions and the narrow has the same geometry as the V3 and V2 I would go with a wide since it’s a bit of a different experience than the other droppers.
I am coming from just a V60 (no other orea) and they said the wide is an easier transition for V60 owners so that intrigued me along with the unique "balanced" flavor they claim. I usually brew 20 grams or less so the main factor for me is how geometry affects flavor. However, lots of people seem to prioritize fast brewing for light roast pour over, which makes me feel that narrow might be better for versatility in the long run. Maybe wide is more for when coffees are tasting one-noted. In that case the uneven extraction from wide could help to bring out nuance. In the end I wish I could get both to play with and compare how the same brewer with a different angle affects my cup. Only problem is I need to get on that preorder deal, so I won't be able to hear others' opinions about the wide before I order haha.@@Sprometheus
Help Sprometheus! (Oh my, I feel like I'm invoking an ancient greek god 🤣) I was just about ready to pull the trigger on an Orea, but now there are so many. Now that you tested them, would you say one is best for very small batches? I brew about 8.5g 😁
Why not just make a small plastic ring with "teeth" that you can drop into the Orea you already have? Will I get sued if I get a production batch made? lol.

It would've been good to compare the v3 and MK2 with negotiated papers. They tend to stall on the mk1, the teeth were introduced to stop this.

How’s it working out?
@@hisdesciples love it. Nice and fast like the V3. Has taken some practice, but I am getting there.

the glass version reminds me of ceramic December bottomless dripper
supercool I like the meaningful differences
I thought the v3 mk2 was not enough difference to upgrade from v3, but i did pre order the v4!
Great video, is there a noticeable difference between the V3 and V3 mk2 when using negotiator filters?
I bought all the new products from orea and cant wait to test them all! :)

Wish i could get my hands on one of the original black aluminum ones 🤩
I'm all about that glass dripper...hmmm what would be the best hand grinder to pair with it? K max?
Would you use this instead of your Kalita brewer for your espresso pour over style?
currently trying to decide between v3 mkII OR waiting for v4, I think I will wait for your next analysis!!! great video!!!
I say go for v4 because you basically get both.

The big boy looks good to me. I really need a way to brew for 3 to 5 people and the V60 won’t cut it.
Did you try the big boy with flat filters? Or with 30 grams?
Does the big boy fit under a Ratio Six ? Really curious
How do they compare with the Kalita brewers?
I preordered the V4 as my first Orea Dripper. Very excited to add another brewer to my lineup :D
That seems like the one to get started with. Appears to have it all, so to speak.
which one did you get? the wide or narrow one o: ?
I just did the same. This will be my first flat bottom. Finally decided to grab something besides my V60 and Hario Switch.

Been looking at the V4
How's the new DF64 that I see there in the background? :)
Can anyone recommend a server for Big boy?
