If you go back to when the train is departing from the station you will see that the infection has literally just got to top of the stairs leading down to the station, so the train literally JUST escapes. The homeless guy had clearly seen what was happening on the streets and tried to stowaway on the first train departing "train to Bhusan" The infected girl who jumps on the train last minute had the same thought, she must have escaped what was happening on the street above and got bitten in the process. IMO the "point" of the homeless man is to show that even though he had no status, money, position or worth in society. Every life has value and meaning. And that between the CEO and a beggar it was not the beggar that was the failure as a human being. Ps. Cut his hand off?? With what? Jump off a moving train, run to get ahead of the wheels, put your hand under then jump back up one handed, bleeding profusely, run alongside the train and jump back on with one arm without passing out from blood loss and trauma?
