Better Call Saul not winning any Emmys (not that awards matter) will always irk me. This was some master class television. No zombies or dragons, just a good camera and script is all you need to make your story iconic.
You know why Better Call Saul didn't get any Emmys? Because it's too SMALL! THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT IT! IT'S NOTHING TO THEM! BCS TRAVELS IN WORLDS THEY CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE! THE EMMYS CAN'T CONCEIVE OF WHAT BCS IS CAPABLE OF! IT'S SO FAR BEYOND THEM! BCS IS LIKE A GOD IN HUMAN CLOTHING! *LIGHTNING BOLTS SHOOT FROM ITS FINGER TIPS!!!*
This video made me remember everything that I felt when I watched Better Call Saul for the first time, and it made me see things in the show that I had never seen before. It is a triumph
Also, I really liked your analysis of the fake worlds that Jimmy and Kim surround themselves with, @B- Mask. Jimmy in particular feels like he lives in a theme park of his own making.
@@BMask It's funny. I was just trying to think up a cheeky b-mask Monkey Island theme park joke at first, but after I thought about it, it made me have a legitimate realization about the way Jimmy's life is presented lmfao.
1. Beautiful video. No words. Love how the end tied back to what you said in the first Sound of Saul. 2. 8:37 threw me off - in a good way. Best use of the gag yet.
The “Days of Wine and Roses” opening sequence is probably my favorite cold open for any TV show ever, solely because of the music. Such a haunting and beautiful sequence
It's beautiful, but Ive always found the Something Stupid montage to be one of the greatest openings of all time... And definitely the greatest montage
- As I've not watched either show yet, I'm putting this video on the backlog for now. Dropping a comment for the algorithm until then. I'll definitely enjoy this in the future.
25:20 yessss. Tho i understood the REAL reason for the change (the original actor having a schedule conflict cuz he took another job in the midst of uncertain pandemic times while BCS was in hiatus)... I've VERY MUCH canonized this change in faces by looking at it through Jimmy's lens, and his change of mindset (which is, ofc, the result of him being bold and taking care of the situation). Saul giving Jeff a taste of his own medicine by showing up at his house is a SOLID indicator of this shift in mindset, too. Plus, the writers are on record as saying that the writing was finalized BEFORE the actor situation ever came into play.
Nothing else was like experiencing season 6 as it came out and I'm so proud to say I was there to witness this. Although I've said goodbye to the universe twice by now with Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul but by now we knew it was over as the four year gap and Gene's story had to be completed. I think the ending really fits the thesis and sequel nature of it while Walts acknowledges he's wrong and still goes ahead and does it. Jimmy takes the punishment regardless of the consequences and admitting he's wrong which is a harder feat. It's as if when the show tells you how to acknowledge what needs to be seen by yourself to find peace that the whole series ends. This whole entire angle of the universe all comes from a background character that's the best definition of what's great about it's morally grey writing. By just naturally evolving Saul's past and understanding Breaking Bad almost better than it did.
The Lalo Schifrin piece is part of why Nippy is my favorite episode of the series. That piece ended up being my most played song on Spotify by the end of the end of 2022. Two other Schifrin pieces made my Top 5.
Felt like binging through Saul again recently. I got up to the last few episodes and decided to run through BB beforehand. Now for dessert, I get this.
Watching this video, and being reminded of the previous one, has made me realize that s’about time I rewatched the show again. Excellent work as always, B-Mask.
This is my favorite show of all time and I rewatch it every year. I loved your previous two videos and this was a very nice conclusion. I really appreciate the effort you put in and you really manage to make me appreciate the show even more. The one and only thing that ever bothered me about BCS, through no fault of the creators of course, was the recasting of Jeff. I love the way of looking at it as Gene/Saul/Jimmy changing their perspective on the situation and seeing the character differently. The recasting will not bother me at all anymore.
Man, I've been dying to see you make a video about BCS' ending since we had the opportunity to chat about it in Kilkenny! Couldn't have been more excited to see this in my sub box.
I love the musical duality and sentiment during bagman as Jimmy drags bags across the desert and Kim paces alone and the Sinatra song 'Something Stupid' played by Lola Marsh plays.... beautiful
I finished this show about a month ago and I still can't get over the fact how great it is. Every little detail of the show serves a purpose and it made me focus so much more than simply watching every episode mindlessly without putting much thought into it. I'll definitely have to rewatch it at some point in the future.
I thank the soundtrack creators of Saul. I'm a musician that has discovered 2 new personal favorite band/artists in my journey with this show. Little Barrie (obviously), Lola Marsh among others! Thank you
You put into words so perfectly the nostalgia that comes across so vividly in Gene's heist montage. I never really understood it beyond instinct. But everytime I got to this scene it gave me the overwhelming urge to go back and start the show from the top.
I think the mostly mundane nature of Better Call Saul makes room for the music to be as impactful as it is. It takes it's time and has so many layers of character development.
I'm not watching the whole video yet, since I haven't finished breaking bad or bcs yet, but the first segment made me realized what drew me into the show so much. Also, it made me think of the Persona games, cause they live rent free in my brain
Seeing Better Call Saul made me quite bummed about how much potential with the character Tyrion Lannister was wasted by Game of Thrones. Both of their stories were so similar beat to beat but Tyrion (at least in the show) went downhill after season 4 because the showrunners were afraid to make him evil. Meanwhile, BCS didn’t pull any punches with Saul.
Have I watched Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul? No. Have I watched multiple hours long video essays about both shows? Yes. Would I watch BMask talk about paint drying? You betcha
I wanna introduce my girlfriend to the Breaking Bad universe. I’m not sure if she could handle Breaking Bad but I think she would like BCS. I was wondering if anyone thinks it would be possible for someone to appreciate and even enjoy BCS without watching BB first?
I've had a lot of people I know who've never seen Breaking Bad really enjoy BCS, and for the most part I think the show does set itself up so that you can enjoy them in either order. There are a couple of outliers but I've not met anyone who feels one or the other was ruined that way for them!
My dad watched BCS first as he was more attracted to the lawyer type programme, and he loved watching in that order. To him, none of the characters were guaranteed to live. I think the only ‘downfall’ is not quite knowing the character of Gus, as he’s written better in BB than BCS (in my opinion).
Yeaaaah Let's get this video to a lot of views in the first hour so that it gets love from youtube Algorithm bless this video which i liked even before watching it because it's that good Seriously, sometimes i end up pissed off because i can't like it again after watching it, fix that youtube Lots of words lots of engagement, yadda yadda

53 nominations and 0 wins over 7 years is an achievement in itself and shows Emmys don’t matter
It’s a true goddamn shame that it had to go up against Succession.

13:20 YESSSSS I'm glad that someone else appreciated the delicate, beautiful sound of the rain hitting that shard of glass.
You will never forget that courtroom entrance. The whole montage song felt like going to church after you just survived cancer. Only believe.
Better Call Saul’s writing is so well that two of the darkest moments in the show 24:12 28:40 both happened in the broad daylight without any casualty.
B-Mask thought Better Call Saul was tragedy, now he realizes it's a musical

Does Kim's actress really pronounce her name Ray? Because Rhea is usually pronounced Rei-uh, or Rii-uh, like the Titaness; Chronos' sister-mate.
