How long have you done karate? my thai boxing instructor is a 10th dan and he says thai boxing is better and i did karate for 3.5 years and i think thai boxing is better ..... how long have you been training again?
They hate rules that's associated when fighting in a Karate Arena such as being unable to punch in the face and what not. I say Muaj thai rules are more open-minded than constraining Karate rules.
@danzinnyman all they need to do is actually revert to using proper Muay Thai instead of stand up sport muay thai. Real muay thai has ground fighting, sport does not. don't limit your self from the knowledge of what you see on the T.V.

this is because in the other videos, the fighter was practicing terribly non muay thai form. muay thai form indicates high fists up as a guard. in most of those videos, the so called muay thai fighter was practicing terrible form. in the vids of the thai fighter beating Taekwondo or karate, both sides were practicing proper form. that makes it an equal and well judged fight.
The Karate guy was doing great keeping his kicks low and punches high props to him. The Muay Thai guy was doing great too always keeping his knee up for blocks which is true Muay Thai. So therefore I say this was a pretty good fight.

Oyama teached without gloves, using other techniques as well.. Anyway the only true karate is okinawan self-defence techniques with no rules, attacks to vital points, a complete and realistic system.
It appears that the Thai fighter was not allowed to grab the head and knee. And definitely , no clinching or elbows. They should have told him he was not allowed to use his legs as well. Sheeesh
:D You win some practicants of ease form of karate. The realistic karate has more tricks than you can imagine. And Karate is Tiger stile from kung fu and it is not for gloves and ring rules.
i trained thai for 5 yrs in the late 90s and have had conatct with many students around the world since then,there is no ground game in thai,there is a limited (and ineffective one for mma) ground game in muay boran and its ancestors,they were nothing like bjj though,very weak by comparison.You should stick to proven striking arts and proven grappling ones,not arts that have a pissweak aspect of each to develope that portion.For eg bjj has takedowns but there weak so i do wrestling for throws.
when a muay thai fighter is not allowed to use elbows then he is fighting like a kick boxer. and in this fight he could throw lots of elbows . muay thai is not the arm bands at the arm . but it is a fighting style . if you dont know the rules of the match stop saying "something vs muay thai" . to use someone muay thai we must have muay thai rules. or an mma mach .
im saying that unless you train in a grappling art youll be fucked againsta good wrestler in the clinch and on the ground against a good subgrappler.If youre still in high school,you know nothing yet about combat sports,if someone after 6 months grappling cant submit someone the same size with no grappling,the school is crap or they are useless.
