Hi Lee, I'm here in western Canada, British Columbia. Just wanted to tell you how great you are for uploading these free videos to help the world improve beginners and intermediate levels.
I play advanced players a lot. Lately some days my backhand has been bad, and the way this video was organized and explained has given me a clearer idea of the steps of the backhand clear, as well as the mechanics of the swing.
I hope you know how much everyone appreciates your contributions.

For me, I like midium and a little bit head heavy racket as it gives me more power. In general a little bit head heavy racket is better to put more power. Yes different kind of racket can play role on strokes but it is more important to have a very good skill and power. Lee

Great and exelent series. I play badminton for two years with friends and I have decided to play it properly. There are plenty videos but only yours are well structurated, didacticly perfect and full of useful tips and exercises. You are doing it right. Thx you very much for it. Here in Czech Republic badminton passes through a boom. Tenis and basketball fields are transformed into badminton's, new courts rise also. We gonna beat you in few years.

As a child and teenager I used to use tennis rackets for badminton because badminton rackets broke too soon and were too expensive to buy new ones. It developed hand and wrist strength quite well. Interesting to see how this coach gives and advice to use head cover or heavier rackets for developing strength.

There are a few different backhand clear grips depending on how ealy or how late you taking the shot. In this clip I did not mention nor showing the different backhand grips. I do understand your point. On my next clips I will show the different backhand clear grips. Thank you for your points. Lee

    1. You must not chase the shuttlecock rather you should move paralel to the shuttlecock so you have room to creat power and room to makle your swing action. 2. Do not panic, let it go and follow it later then you have better timing to hit it. 3. If you can hit long clear then do fast drop or flat drive, in this way your opponent cannot kill it so you can get back to the rally again. Lee

Coach Lee..your videos provide immense inspiration to people like us who love the sport of Badminton and play it part time. I have learnt so much in the last year just by watching your videos. In this video what is the tension of your racket(lbs)? Your backhand is so good and i have never seen anyone besides the top badminton players hit with such power and speed. Is it just the string tension or wrist power as well. Would love to hear back from you!
    God Bless you!

    Dear Coach Lee,
I do not have words to thank you. You are such an amazing coach who has helped me change my view about playing badminton. I used to play a lot when I was a teen and used to be considered a very good player locally. Needless to say that I used to play in wrong ways. Recently I have come across your training videos and started regretting that if I could get your lessons 15 years ago!
However, I have decided that I will teach my daughter to play badminton with the help of your lessons. (She is 5)
I pray that you keep doing well and keep helping people like this. May god always keep you well.
    Thanks ( Million million times)

very interesting, will try this out. Have always run round my backhand at all costs, so only hit it when its flat and use the power to drop it fast to net. Whenever coached the backhand this simple basic method was not shown.... however from listening it appears my main issue was trying to force the shuttle to the back.
I will now try and develop my overhead backhand.

If you use bit heavier racket, you can increase more power but the level of weight has to be right to your strength. That is why you have to test rackets amnd find out the right one for you. Too right or too heavy racket for your strength is not good. That is a racket can not be good for everybody. Forget about the price and test then find right one FOR YOU. Lee

hi Lee thanks for this video. I wonder in your next video will you be able to show:
    1. how to hold the backhand grip for the backhand clear shots
    2. can you do a slow motion of how your racket hand movement from a different position eg. may be the video can show your movement from your left side way. I would like to understand how to make the stroke. is that from inside body outwards or its actual moving like an arc from bottom to top
    3. after you have hit the shuttle your racket seems to stop and did not follow through. Did you have to apply strong force to stop it?
    Thanks in advance.

If you do it, it will help you timing better and get to the shuttlecock faster. I do know why you question but it is better to do it then not doing it. Lee

It is very much depending on where the shuttlecock is/where you are hitting from/where the impact point is. If shuttlecock is bit more infront of your body then the grip I showed is good. If shuttlecock is side of you then ready grip/nutural grip is good. If the shuttlecock is behind of your body then pan handle grip is good with your thumb to be straighted on the narrow part of grip. This VDO is very helpful, i like the way you teach because it looks really easy.
By the way, i have many problems and one of those is my defensing.
I really dont know my feet step and also the way to grab the racket. when I defense, should I grab the racket like backhand? if how about they hit to my forehand so how to defense?
i wish i could be your student, but unfortunately I'm not living in Canada.
    Thanks so much Master Lee.

Thank you for a very methodological video. One question: in some Chinese video, they taught to do backhand clear with a full swing (arm swing as much as 150 degree to generate force). Could you compare your method with that method? Tks.
