My sister played this on the piano at my dad's funeral in 1986. I didn't understand back then, how gut wrenching that must have been for my 19 year old sister. But she did it because my dad was so in love with The Man From Snowy River and Jessica's Theme in particular. She brought the entire congregation of mourners to the breaking point...not a dry eye in the chapel. As long as I live, I'll never forget that moment.
I remember about a 14 year old daughter playing this and/or others off this soundtrack, as it was a favorite, at her dad's funeral. Stunning, beautiful, hopeful. Thank you Lord.
Love this. Grandma showed me this movie when I was a child and loved every sense. I want this to be the song play at my funeral . Such a beautiful song . Number one favorite musical piece that’s been ever made.
I must've seen this movie 50 times when I was a teenager. And that's no exaggeration. Could never get enough of it, or the incredibly beautiful soundtrack. I remember that I even bought sheet music to try to learn it on piano. I didn't even know how to play piano. That's how much I loved both the movie and the music. Unfortunately, the sequel didn't do it any justice.
personanongrataus: I bought the soundtrack and VHS tape. Then much, much later, I finally got it on DVD. It’s still awesome, all these years later. 💖💖💖
I just watched this with my teen daughter tonight after watching it for the very first time a couple months ago. I wish I wouldn’t have waited so long. May just be my favorite movie now. So powerful! Wish they still made them like this.
This brings me back in time… when I was young, rode my horse daily, thought I had it tough then… only to realize those were when some of my best childhood memories were being created ❤. This song brings out a lot of nostalgia.
1:30 Arguably the most sublime moment in Australian compositional history right there. Just perfect use of the oboe in the climax of this beautiful piece of music.
I used to play this on the piano all the time during my college days. I’m 49yrs old now. Totally forgot how to play it. I should buy the sheet music and relearn it. This piece just stirs my soul
I used to play it all the time, too. That was until my 23 yo son decided to throw all of my piano music. I still get mad when I hear my favorites. I had a great Dan Coates book that I can’t find anywhere online🤬😡🤬
I'm fortunate to have a father who is a true horseman. A lot of experiences I've been blessed with while growing up. This movie was a favorite of the family and still is.
I love this movie. At the time it came out I had a mare who lucked exactly like Jim's horse and of course Jim is my name as well and I rode and trained horses daily. ten years later, thanks to the internet, my mother discovered her blood family... turns out my cousin was the director..George Miller and I got to spend time with him in Millersburg, Oregon taling about the filming of the movle which was fascinating!!
This is how I got my name. My papa loved this movie and wanted a granddaughter named Jessica more than anything.. it was his dying wish. March 19 1995 he passed away from cancer, March 22 1995 I was born. Rest In Peace papa. I love my name thank you, and the song is beautiful two
Brings back so may memories of Wednesday nights at my grandparents. We'd all get in the family car and drive up to their place and have dinner and talk about life. After that we'd all move to the living room, pick a VHS and sit back and watch movies like The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, The Apple Dumpling Gang, Annie, The King and I, and of course The Man From Snowy River. Simpler times man. Simpler times.
As a kid i would watch the movie on repeat, my mother played this on piano for me as a kid as well. I am now learning it. Everytime i listen to it, it reminds me of home.
Have loved this movie since I was a little girl, I’m 18 now and I still get surprised when people my age say they’ve never seen it. It will forever be one of my favourites.
I used all of this music at a wedding too. It was held in a country town in central Victoria (Australia). I was the organist and played the various themes for the Bride, the Bridesmaids etc. It was one of the loveliest weddings I've ever seen. Fantastic music!
This song reminds me of my father and I when we spent a successful seven months of working on the ranch in North Platte, Nebraska during my childhood. My father and I spent everyday together during that time. We had 500 head of cattle to attend to and my father made sure that I experienced everything possible with working on the ranch such as learning to drive tractors to riding horses on cattle drives etc. Those were the best of days and I have never have forgotten such things on my end.
I fell in love with this piece and of course the movie, at 10. At 52, i am atill so moved, each and every time i hear it. To be played at my funeral or I'm not coming.
I’m gonna put aside this musical number for a second, which is right up there with the greatest themes ever composed and take a second to acknowledge how great a movie this is! The whole “rich man’s daughter falling for the hired help” is such an old and overused trope in storytelling, but I can’t think of ANY movie that does it as good as this one! This is like in my top five all time romantic films. So beautifully crafted and wonderfully written! An amazing cast and the cinematography is breathtaking! I feel like this movie doesn’t come up in conversations all too often when discussing people’s favorites. Sure, many have seen it, especially in it’s initial release (Jessica was one of the most popular baby names that year). But I don’t think many people give it a second thought. It’s a shame because I’m my mind it’s a classic! And again, the soundtrack is spectacular!
kricket mckay you are not alone I have been trying to crack Jessica's theme pretty much since February I have a new Yamaha electronic keyboard but I need to chase up the written music for it and find my self a dedicated teacher who will spend the time teaching me this piece as I am so obsessed with this piece of music and clair de lune from the twilight movie and it is all that I obsess about after about 43 years of not being able to play the piano and suddenly after seeing the twilight movie series I musical light went on in my head and my heart I have fallen in love with the piano and I just need a dedicated teacher to help me coordinate my left hand with the right hand and there is no shortage of not being able to hear it and play at the same time I just need to smooth and polish and refine what I already know in order to conquer the piano/keyboard.
I've learnt half of this piece by ear. I can't read music at all but I would love to finish this piece off eventually. It's so much more beautiful on a normal piano but a keyboard is just as brilliant. I love this movie and it's theme songs but Jessica's theme is what captured my eyes and ears and the horses captured my heart.
I'm watching this because I am teaching the piece to an adult piano student. Search images of Jessica's Theme sheet music and there are many versions at different levels of difficulty.
I was 7 years old watching this with my Father. Watching this 30 years later, I still had tears. Only those who've watched this movie will understand the emotion. Lots of love to the fans out there.
RIP POPS 1982 LAKEWOOD THEATER IN LAKEWOOD WA.....LOVE THE MOVIE LOVE MY DAD😢like my grandfather my stepfather and my father before me I want this played at my funeral!!!!!
Watched this movie and the sequel all the time as a kid with my Dad and brother. Mom would jokingly call them "old Dad" movies, but she would watch them with us. Brings me right back to childhood.
I’m 14 and my mom knew a little bit of this song but it was the melody but I saw her watching the movie this year so I watched the end with her and I heard this song so I plan to learn the rest of the song for her
I have been revisiting the soundtrack again lately also after listening to Tommy Emanuel playing "Jolly Swagerman" and I sent a note to Bruce Rowland and he was gracious enough to respond. It is hard to believe that this move is 36 years old.
Beautiful memories of watching this movie with my mom as a child on many Saturday afternoons after browsing the horses with her at the auction yards...

My family has a love/hate relationship with this movie because of me, I was so obsessed with it as a child it’s the only thing I wanted to watch all day long. So much that we memorized the script, I still watch it probably once a year.
It's really easy to tell when the music transitions to Jessica playing the piano at about 2:32. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that Sigrid Thornton (who portrayed Jessica) was actually playing the piano for that scene.
Jessica's theme is so beautiful my fiance and I both cry together it brings the love we have for each other into the open makes a very beautiful romantic evening
Where can I get the soundtrack??? This movie is worth watching just for the music. I dislike the language, but it is otherwise a great movie. I personally give it seven-and-a-half stars out of ten.

Very cool!
I believed my father wanted this at his funeral as well, I wasn’t able to make it happen.
I often regret this daily.
I can only imagine how beautiful that was. It's even moving to hear about it.
I remember about a 14 year old daughter playing this and/or others off this soundtrack, as it was a favorite, at her dad's funeral. Stunning, beautiful, hopeful. Thank you Lord.
I'm crying just reading this!!!
My husband and I went to see this movie while we were dating. On December 31, 1983 my dad walked me down the aisle to this song. It was beautiful!
U r SOO LUCKY !!! HOW GORGEOUS !!!👍😁
Me too in 1994!♥️
That's truly beautiful! I hope it still continues to bring you love and joy 🙏
I’ve chosen this song for my dad to walk me down the aisle when I get married in Oct! It’s one of my dad’s and my favorite movie!
I'm 16 and I'm so glad my grandpa got me to watch this movie when I was young it showed me how movies and entertainment are supposed to be.

This might convince me to watch it this holiday period!
The sequel was ok. Not great like the first movie, but ok.
The sequel was absolute garbage without Kirk Douglass.
I just watched this with my teen daughter tonight after watching it for the very first time a couple months ago. I wish I wouldn’t have waited so long. May just be my favorite movie now. So powerful! Wish they still made them like this.
This song!! I grew up listening to my mum playing it on the piano. It's nearly 5 years since she passed on and it still gets to me.
Melissa, me too, I weep of wonderful memories, missing my Dad.
