I’m from Utah in the USA, this is my favorite movie of all time. From the first viewing when it came out until today. The score, cinematography, cast chemistry… I’ve watched it dozens of times and listened to the soundtrack who knows how many times. The soundtrack was the first CD I ever bought (new tech then). Anytime I hear any of the music I can see the scenes in my mind. Jim’s ride is one of the greatest scenes in cinema, in my opinion. Thank you for this interview and the stories about production.

The Man from Snowy River is a great coming of age movie. The ride chasing the Brombys is the most amazing ride, then you see him jump off the edge of the cliff, and ride down the mountainside. MAGICAL❤
Honey it wasn’t just a moment in Australia film it was a moment in film history period. Possibly the greatest ride ever in any movie. It was all you and your horse no cutting splicing of film to get the scene it was all one great scene unmatched before C or after. And it wows me that you weren’t an experienced horseman but you and the horse were one for that moment But yes it was and is one of the great scenes in film world wide and most likely the greatest horse ridding scene in film history ever. And thank you very much for giving it to us
I've loved The Man From Snowy River since the day it premiered. 43 yrs later, my love for the movie is still strong, although I'm left feeling emotional due to the Government's culling, and removing the Brumbies from the High Country and the bush.
I remember when my dad brought this movie home for the first time for us to watch. I was a very young horse-crazy girl. I fell in love with The Man from Snowy River that day. I learned to play Jessica’s Theme on the piano and can’t even say how many times people asked me to play it for them throughout my life. I even played it in a recital my senior year. What an amazing movie and what a score indeed!❤❤❤❤ It’s unbelievable that Tom wasn’t a life long rider. Incredible!!!! What an amazing job he did!
Best movie I have watched in my lifetime. I have watched it at least 30 times. I was 17 when it came out and it has had a wonderful impact on my life. Thank you Mr. Burlinson, for the amazing work you did and for the incredibly long lasting impact you have had on everyone who has watched it!
I was 32 - a lifetime horse owner & trained several for myself and other people. THAT movie was great, and that clip was FANTASTIC. ETA, I now have what will be my last horse, however long he lives. We're both elderly. 😊
This movie is a true masterpiece. I will never forget when I saw it in theaters just brilliantly done and casted. I grew up in South Dakota this is a classic movie of horsemanship anyone who loves horses must watch this. Cheers from Colorado.

I LOVE LOVE The Man From Snowy River! I saw it in the theatre in 1982 and have watched it 30x over the last 43 years. I listen to Jessica's Theme all the time.
Truly one of the greatest movies ever made. And second to none, best Australian movies ever made. The best music score, the best Australian historic poem put to film, landscape scenery, and horsemanship ever seen on a screen... Makes me proud to be a Aussie of seventh generation, and look forward to my grandchildren feeling the same pride. Simply the best all round...🎉❤
My brother was studying film work when this came out, and he insisted that I come and see it with him. During the descent scene, I whispered to him, "Are they bending (tilting) the camera?" He absolutely hissed at me, "No, look at the trees." Great riding and cinematography. Great movie.
As an American cowboy, I had never seen an outback saddle before this film came out (and would never consider planting my butt in an English saddle). My first thought was it was an odd English saddle. As I sat through the movie I began to become more and more curious about it. About 3 years later I had an opportunity to ride one. As someone who almost exclusively rides a variety of 1860s thru 1890s style "A" fork saddles I felt right at home. After a few hours of riding I decided I had to have one. It took another couple years but I finally bought one. Still have it, still use it, especially for training young and rank horses. Great interview!!!
I've ridden mountain horses in western saddle but can't imagine riding them in English saddle. Never heard of the outback saddle. I need to research them. Give the horse his head and he'll take you up or down in safety...Sue from Arizona
Yeah, those are great saddles, keep you pretty secure. But my artful bucker figured out he could pop us straight UP out of ours, so it's still possible to part ways with your horse!
Well thank you, that was a great interview. The horse over the cliff scene took me back to also leaning back into my cinema seat and grabbing onto the arm rests. Australiana at its best. The soundtrack, aaah yes that music. How young and innocent we were.

Those Aussies sure can ride! I love both movies, still thrilling after dozens of views. You will see the Lovett family in the credits for many movies involving horses. Standing ovation to the cinematography as well, just breathtaking.
WOW.. Has it REALLY been 42 years since that movie was released, I remember it like it was yesterday..LOVED it, BEST Movie Ever 😳 I remember seeing it in the theater, I Could hardly wait for it to be released..

Last night I dusted off my DVDs and watched both Snowy River movies. Love these movies and the scenes with riding the horse down the mountain is still breathtaking.
Growing up in Arizona in the 60s and 70s, always worshipped cowboy culture and the Rodeo. This movie came out the year I graduated college. It is a gift to the world to see up close by camera , man and horse in sync. Breathtaking riding.
Loved the interview and loved the movie! One of my all-time favorites from 'way back. Kirk Douglas was one of my very favorite actors (fell in love with Spartacus as a teenager!). Unbelievable to learn that Tom did that ride himself. Wow. What guts!! Reminded me of Ralph Moody's taking on horse fall rides in Wickenburg in early movie days. Thanks for doing this.
My favorite movie of all time. Introducing it to my teenagers now. Tom seems like such a cheerful, optimistic soul - truly a lovely man! After Peter Pan, my first childhood crush. ;)
Okay so when the movie came out I was young but I was so enthralled with him like in love with him it's like a fairytale romantic and a superhero I was so in love with him😊😊😊😊

So glad that I had more than one opportunity to see The Man from Snowy River when I worked in Papua New Guinea. Not so sure I would have been able to catch it if I had been home in Canada.
One of my favorite movies! Gave me the chills when he went over the side of the mountain! Brilliant movie! I still watch it occasionally, I have the dvd!
Love love love the movie Man from snowy river. Tom is just wonderful in it. I wanted to share with Tom that the Movie was one of my Dads favorites. Before my Dad died 4 years ago we would always get together and watch it. Tom will always be an inspiration to me. To bad i can't meet him one day. That would be an Honor
What an absolutely *AMAZING* movie, and those who Acted in it, and RODE IN IT, deserve every ounce of respect! The music score is a class all its own, and when you put it all together? :: Chef-kisses! :: As an American, who grew up on a working ranch, and rode for many years (Mostly working class, some barrel racing/lasso'ing Events, but nothing 'Professional/Career'), seeing that downhill run had me literally clawing the theater arm rests! Bravo! Bravo!! BRAVO!!!
1-20-2025 Wow, what a treat this randomly showed up in my feed tonight as I was planning to pull up the YT of the "down the mountain" scene. If I can't watch the whole movie I get my fix that way. Thank you, and thank you Mr. Burlinson for the interview. I had heard you could sing, now I have to look up your music endeavors!
Lovely to hear from you, NavvyMom! It was such a privilege to interview Tom and he's as wonderful as he seems! Like the movie! Unforgettable!! So glad you enjoyed! Ian, Sydney
Amazing movie that I've always remembered from my childhood! My dad was a horseman growing up and during some of his adult life, so Man From Snowy River was a movie we saw right away!
I saw the show in Melbourne yesterday and it was fantastic!! Loved the stories from Tom and Sigrid beforehand. This is one of my favourite movies, even with it being 2 years older than I am.
I saw Star trek Into darkness with a live orchestra and it's AWESOME!!!! Hope they do this with Man from Snow river here in SE Virginia with a live orchestra! What a treat that would be.
It was discussed, quite a few times, but it was thought that the legend had run its course and to do any more big-screen sequels might be stretching things. But, a TV series was made (four seasons!), on a rather smaller budget (the music wasn't a patch on the original fabulous score!), starring none other than Guy Pearce, who was 27 when it started. It's available on DVD as a boxset. And, yes, Tom's a total legend! Ian
You all need a third trilogy with Craig and Jessica children and grand children and of course the brumblies the horses of course the great grandson leading the herd.
One of the best movies.i,watch it a few times or more every year here in California. I prefer akubras over our American hats.just out in the rain today with my outback slicker and bushman hat ending to the horsesand thinking about this movie.thanks for the interview with Tom
There is no way that movie would have succeeded if Mr. Burlinson hadn't taken it upon himself to learn to ride. He's right up there with Ben Johnson or Slim Pickens as far as actors who could ride. And they both were cowboys who found themselves in Hollywood.
Still my favorite movie of all time. That ride…as a horseman, it is the ultimate. When out on the trail I imagine going down that mountain on my surefooted little mare but know I’d never have the guts.
How are there not more views on this!!!! This man is a legend among American cowboys
Many thanks, SFK! Agreed! Tom is an iconic cowboy - and a really nice person!
Great film. And true.
The best horsemanship of any western movie other than maybe the black stallion. That kid was pretty incredible too.

I still love this movie. I named one of my mules "Den" after that buckskin.
It was and will remain the most amazing film of all time!
What an absolutely *AMAZING* movie, and those who Acted in it, and RODE IN IT, deserve every ounce of respect! The music score is a class all its own, and when you put it all together? :: Chef-kisses! ::
As an American, who grew up on a working ranch, and rode for many years (Mostly working class, some barrel racing/lasso'ing Events, but nothing 'Professional/Career'), seeing that downhill run had me literally clawing the theater arm rests! Bravo! Bravo!!
One of my faves❤🎉😅
I saw the show in Melbourne yesterday and it was fantastic!! Loved the stories from Tom and Sigrid beforehand. This is one of my favourite movies, even with it being 2 years older than I am.
I saw Star trek Into darkness with a live orchestra and it's AWESOME!!!! Hope they do this with Man from Snow river here in SE Virginia with a live orchestra! What a treat that would be.
Favorite movie of all time!
Love that movie that horse part going down hill was awesome
Loooovvvveee these two movies!❤❤
Yes, they're simply wonderful! Agreed!
Your a legend Tom, thank you so much.
Has A Man From Snowy 3 ever been discussed?
It was discussed, quite a few times, but it was thought that the legend had run its course and to do any more big-screen sequels might be stretching things. But, a TV series was made (four seasons!), on a rather smaller budget (the music wasn't a patch on the original fabulous score!), starring none other than Guy Pearce, who was 27 when it started. It's available on DVD as a boxset. And, yes, Tom's a total legend! Ian
Im glad they did not. Stories end, let them end majestically.
Awesome, l still have both movies. ❤🇨🇦👍
Great film, I remember seeing it - and loving it - when it first came out all those years ago. Glad I stumbled on this interview. Thanks.
The movies and Tom have been and will always be favorites
Totally agree! And Tom will be so pleased to read this!
You all need a third trilogy with Craig and Jessica children and grand children and of course the brumblies the horses of course the great grandson leading the herd.
Now, that would be just terrific! Love to see that! Ian
@@THE_GOSSIP_AND_THE_CRITICthere was a TV show if memory serves me
One of the best movies.i,watch it a few times or more every year here in California.
I don't think the movie would have worked without that horse ride. It was the climax of the poem, and the point of the movie.
its one of my favorite movies! 😭
Jessica's Theme still makes me cry to this day ❤
I totally get that! It’s a beautiful piece of music, from a glorious score! Ian
Fabulous
It was so good because horse and rider trusted each other!
Great movie.
