Reading these words made me sad. Hearing you read this letter out now made me cry.

My boyfriend died, he was a passenger of à drunk driver. The driver walked away without injury, then left the country. Never Drive ever even after 1 beer. Never.

Because our Savior suffered for our sins and was resurrected, your beloved son, Brian will be reunited with you in heaven one day. Always remember that and thank you for sharing your beautiful and important words. He would be proud of you for all you’re doing to prevent this from happening to others. God bless your beautiful family. ❤
💙
Will be sharing with my three sons. Thank you for sharing something so painful so that good can come out of it. ❤
Thank you for sharing this message with your sons!!
May the legacy of Brian, sadly of one decision he made that evening, be the education needed to save another's life.
You are turning the vulnerability of pain into a gift for others to learn from. Sounds like he still has a loving family celebrating the beautiful memories and sharing tears over the saddest ones.
May your shared tears be the hug you need on the day.
My heartfelt condolences to you all. You are doing a great job as a dad, an educator and a surgeon.
I'm proud of you and how you are standing up sharing your story with courage.

I'm sorry for you and your family. I hope you gain some strength knowing that publicly sharing your pain will help others.
Rest in peace 🕊️

Thank you for reminding us the dangers of drunk driving and the many lives lost. A drunk driver passes is a tragedy. We are made to think it's not a big deal and it's fun to drink, while forgetting it's a toxin that poisons our bodies.
I don't judge just hope our attitude towards drinking and partying.
Thanks Lee, I agree
My son is 18 and graduates from high school this may. I will share this video with him. Bless you and your family and Brian who was an amazing young man.
i am so sorry doctor
i lost my mother the same way
i hope you are doing okay
you need to know you aren’t alone ❤
💙
I love that you always speak Brian's name. It speaks volumes about your love and your loss and care for others. I have 3 sons and was never more aware of the dangers and violence young men face growing up, until I was a parent. To lose a child is unbearable. Through our own family experience we have learnt that the loss never leaves you, but your heart grows around that loss to protect it and make room for new love. May you, your wife and family all grow old caring for and loving one another and holding fast to Brian's memory.
I’m sorry for your loss. May Brian’s Memory be a Blessing.
Sending love and light to you and your family.

Very emotional and difficult message for a family.Sorry for your loss Dr especially a good student / child and who was aware of consequences. Not easy.
This should be shared widely.
No parent should have to go through this.
This is heartbreaking. I hope this message reaches someone who drinks.
Thank you for sharing your story and presenting it in such a personal and straightforward manner. It's pretty clear that your son speaks through you to help others as does your mother. Not everyone will respond to the lesson but I'm convinced that at least one young life will be saved because you speak out with truth and humility.
I feel sad to hear this story. I am sorry for you and your family.
When the time is there is will play this video for my sons.

Sorry for the loss...
Different alcohol consumption patterns affect impulsivity differently. For example, UK drinking guidelines state that risk of injury from drinking alcohol start to increase drastically after 4-5 units (~2.5 drinks)
Australian guidelines recommend not drinking more than 120 ml of vodka per occasion.
There is a study from 2017 on alcohol, conducted on teenagers and young adults, suggested that alcohol starts to impact brain development of a young adult when they have more than 2.5 drinks. Title: "Altered Brain Developmental Trajectories in adolescents after intiating drinking"
Canadian guidelines recommend no more than 2 drinks per week.
Andrew Huberman, a neuroscientist, he has a 2 hour pong podcast on alcohol. Mentions that for even adults, more than 2 drinks per week, is enough to increase impulsivity
However, UK and US guidelines consider binge drinking (dangerous drinking) to start from around 4.5 and 5 drinks perspectively. Overall, 2 drinks a day is considered "moderation"
As a young adult myself, I am afraid that unfortunate accidents like this won't stop young people from drinking. Encouraging them to read the alcohol-related studies themselves, to drink infrequently and to have few drinks below the binge drinking treshold would be good precautions to protect the brain from alcohol-induced impulsivity or any other harms that alcohol has to offer.
Thank you, doctor. As a teacher and parent, after I show this video to my children and classes, I will piggyback it with drug use. That first time could be their last time.
May God bless your family ❤
This is a reason doctor to know why alcohol is forbidden in Islam regardless of the amount weather 1 gram or a bottle.
You have reached the highest level of education, in my opinion, I will pray for Allah to give you the best you and your family.
My last wish doctor for you is to read more about Islam
In heaven you all hv the right to drink alcohol. Why is that ?
There are no words… but I do understand… my step son was hit head on in Feb. 2020 2 weeks before the world stopped. He left behind a blended family with 5 children ( 4 mos. To 16) … my step son was 35… he was a drug & alcohol counselor and worked with teens & young adults & their friends & family… the church was packed with kids whose life he changed!! Jared was lucky… he had control of his demons … but it was impatience & poor decisions that cost 3 people’s lives…. ITS NIT STUPID PEOPLE! It’s that ONE, SPLIT SECOND POOR CHOICE! That can never be changed!… DONT DRINK & DRIVE… DONT LET YOUR FRIENDS DRINK & DRIVE
.call someone ! If your friend gets mad & holds a grudge… they weren’t your friend…
But you have the ability to see the FOREVER DAMAGE & PAIN THOSE LEFT BEHIND HAVE TO MAKE SENSE OF… have to get up EVERY DAY & keep on LIVING WITH A EMPTINESS THAT NEVER GOES AWAY…
This senseless changed my husband forever. He can find no answers, no reasons, his best friend, his son… a 4 month old who will never know his Dad. 3 girls who adored their Dad.. he was their buddy, their coach, their best friend… his wife was at work.. she missed him that morning… NEVER ASSUME YOU HAVE ANOTHER CHANCE, will tell someone how special they are…etc. no NOTHING IS PROMISED.
Dr… it’s the worst roller coaster ride of emotions…it doesn’t get “easier”… time takes the constant pain to a different level… with flare ups when you least expect it… you have suffered losses yourself that are deep wounds… but all three are totally different kinds of GRIEF! ..a sibling … a parent…. Totally different emotions… but a child… that’s a loss totally different… I had 30 yrs with my stepson & loved him dearly.. but it’s different grief than my husband… and it’s been so hard to at times to support him… be patient, kind, don’t take things said “personal”… and watch his siblings carefully! Encourage all to express feelings… anger, sadness, the whys… I don’t know your faith… but lean on it…it’s a journey we wish no one had to take…
And Dr….. you have to deal with this everyday im sure… so please… your compassion & kindness is obvious & so admired… you have been on that other side… you have gotten “the call”… BUT YOU ARE THE DAD, HUSBAND, MAN, DR…. TAKE CARE of 5:13 YOU & when you have to stop, step back… DO IT! NO SHAME! My heart breaks for you all…
