The John Miles Set were a staple in the Workingmens Clubs in the North East in the early 70’s and I can remember him singing this one night in Newbottle Club. I was mesmerised, such a haunting song. It was always a full house when they were on. Such a talented musician and songwriter. RIP John😢❤️
I used to play in a group called Candy Choir and we used to know John well. His group was called the Influence, who later became Geordie after John left for bigger things. I was there when he recorded this and the vocal on the second verse was unbelievable coming over the speakers in the control room of the studio - especially as he sang it several times, with never a crack in his voice. Happy days indeed.
i was searching for this cover since the late 70's , it was covered by so many artists & bands , but this version was always my favorite , despite the bad audio ! i've found it few month ago !
Marvellous !!! I knew John released some songs before Music became his first hit, but never imagined one of them could be so powerful !! Thanks for sharing !
@Grazielulli , I have it on 45 inch single here, with a picture of John Miles smiling, with long hair and a hippie beard... it was brought out in 1972, by Orange records licensed by PYE England. There's a number on it, if it helps... 45pv15374. And no, I ain't selling it, unless you offer 100.000 :-) God I can't believe it, I was only 6 when it came out and I was and still am totally crazy from it, John Miles was a hero for me long before Music came out....
Wow-thanks for this jewel!!!! Is this a B-side? If so from which record?Never heard it before!! When was this song released? Thanks sooooo much for sharing- I love John´s voice so much!!!
This was his first single release when he toured the clubs of the North East, we followed him many a time, absolutely brilliant, the follow up was High Fly

I'm always blown away by the fact that John Miles played every instrument on this track!

I didn't realise John had released anything before his 1976 hit Music. Thanks for posting this gem.
The song "Come Away Melinda" was NOT written by Tim Rose, but by Fred Kellerman and Fran Minkoff.

correction: it was actually his 3rd single and the follow up was Yesterday Was Just The beginning of my life both released in 1972
Good version, but I prefer Barry St. John's 1965 version.
