Great video. I don't use horizontal bore mode as much as I should, but once I get the workshop put together I have some projects that will use it a lot more.
You sir are an excellent teacher! Was the rip fence not firmly locked into place? It seems to move easily when pressing against it in horizontal boring mode.
Good eye! I could and should have locked the fence a bit tighter. For most operations, that would not be critical, but in the HB mode I should have given it a tweek. If I am drilling very hard woods, I will sometimes even add a clamp to the table.
I've been watching your videos and find them informative. I have a problem and hope you can help. I've got a 8 '84 500 and just added a NEW PowerPro headstock. I find in trying to make pepper grinders and boring the the holes in lathe mode with a #2 MT drill chuck in the tailstock that there is a lot of flex of the tailstock when drilling the hole though the mill body. It causes the drill to drift slightly off center because of the pressure of drilling with the headstock. The bottom of the body is 1 5/8" forstner sawtooth only 3/4" deep and I think the speed chart had 375rpm. The wood is cherry. The other hole is 1 1/16" sawtooth forstner bit at the same speed. I try to apply enough feed pressure to cut. A regular lathe has a stiffer tailstock setup for drilling. Any ideas to help me though this? Thanks for the help AND the videos. Danny
great video but I do things just a little different when it comes to using the fence to drill several holes I put the fence behind the bit even though it is uncommon for a bit to catch in wood it will spin into the fence instead of away from it. great machine to work with and keep the videos coming there great I am still working with the mark V also someday when I can afford the mark VII I will have one of them
When rotating the shaft by hand (for example, to get to the flat to install a new tool), which way should the shaft be rotated? I've gotten conflicting advice on this. Thanks.
Benn wishing I had one of these for 50 years and I like what you teach here. Thanks!
Liking these videos you put out. Very clear and informative.

Do you have plans for the fireman?
Doug, why did the rip fence move twice while you were horizontal drilling?
Ed Waggoner Sr. See above.
I would have shown drilling round stock as well

You can turn it either way with no problems.
I need to order that table height adjuster but I can't find it anywhere
