Boston Schulz I’ve been traveling a lot to Brazil in the past 15 years,so a backpack that can carry all my essential gear is a must. And a Pelican case sometimes doesn’t fit the lockers that the event press facilities have.
Ah! I rarely travel for work, and when I do travel for shows, I normally bring my bigger, tote camera bag. Which I still love. I feel like I wouldn't use a pelican case unless I'm protecting my gear while flying, like a suitcase. They should definitely get bigger press lockers though!! 😅
I was able two fit 2 Z7 cameras with lenses attache here. Z7 plus 85mm 1.8G and Z7 plus Sigma 14mm F1.8. then separately a Sigma 18mm f1.8 and a 180mm f2.8. So two setups plus two lenses. I love how much space it offers and keeps the gear cool inside the car on hot summer days. Also keeps humidity out.
That sounds like a great option for a lot of people! I don't like wheeled cases, nor do I travel with my gear in a case. So the case that I got is perfect for storage and the traveling that I do do (I mostly drive instead of fly). But that is a great option though!!
I have the pelican 1520. It is also just a poly carbonate based shell with foam, nothing to spectacular except for the sticker.... then again, ive gone canoeing with it and all my gear was safe....but yeah, it doesnt feel like gold. You prob made the better decision. Just found your videos. Great stuff. Keep it up. All the way from Cape town.

Hi Boston, I like your music too and still am crushed every time I hear Tom Petty. Lots of Petty style music with the Traveling Wilburys. I am a new subscriber. Great video. You speak so clearly, I watch at 1.75 speed. I checked with American Airlines and this 4800 case is not within their dimensions for a carry-on. The 5800 (now on sale for $75) is and has the handle and wheels. I was thinking about it just as a carry-on and because I sail, I don't want some of the stuff in a non-water tight bag. I used to have a great Nikon and it was stolen. Now you got me thinking about it again.
OOo! Using this as a carry on (the size that fits, of course) sounds like a great idea! That being said, I've heard too many stories about people having their cameras stolen or broken when they check them. So, carry on is definitely the best option - and be safe & good luck! I'm also so happy to hear from another Tom Petty fan. Such an incredible artist. Thanks for sharing! :)

I have dropped my camera Apache 4800 from five feet and it absorbed the impact and saved my cameras. Definitely worth the 55.00 dollars, thats why I have five.
I don't think I refer to these as "flimsy", but yes, they are plastic, and didn't want to be misleading. I for a looooong time thought Pelicans were metal. In my mind, that seems a lot safer than plastic. That being said, I love my Apache and will definitely buy more in the future. :) I'm glad you like yours and it saved your cameras! Good call on the Apache case from Harbor Freight - I have a few of them already. A word of caution though - it does make it really convenient for a thief to basically steal all your gear in one go.
Oh totally! Good call & reminder!! For me, my setup just went from all in one bag to into this case, so it would be easy regardless for my stuff. 😅 But honestly, now I want another one for the rest of my gear haha!
Haha! I wouldn't use this case for a local shoot; more if I was traveling or something like that. I have a bag that I use for all my shoots that I love, and this definitely wouldn't replace it because it's not easily accessible. But definitely works for safety for my gear when it's at home or traveling with me!
Definitely looks better than keeping your gear in the purse you were using... looking for a similar case for a new 80d I picked up used. Nice thorough review!
I love it! It really makes me feel like my gear is safe. I still use the tote bag / large purse for my gear...for when I'm actually at a shoot. But storing my gear in it, wasn't so great. So happy that I have this case now! Thanks for watching & commenting!!
@@BostonSchulz sweet... picked up a nanuk 915 and just got it today... still haven't done much with it but for 75 bucks I feel a little safer taking it on my boat! Otherwise I would have gone with the one you got...
i just got the 4800 and the only difference is that with pelican i can stand on it and it won't deform. i sat on mines for 30min and the cover sunk in a little. A LITTLE. so i guess i won't be standing on it but it protects gear well.
Be careful of moisture buildup in foam cases. They can cause a lot of corrosion problems in firearms and I’m sure it can do the same for camera gear. I personally use a dry box with humidity and moisture control for storing camera gear and use one of these cases for travel only.
Great note, Dylan! I don't know if this is visible in this video, but I do stuff these cases with a few silica packets to help absorb the moisture and I check on my gear monthly if it hasn't been used. That being said, I don't deal with high humidity in my area, but it is a great callout for those in humid areas to use some sort of moisture control for their gear!
@@BostonSchulz interesting, I keep a lot of my gear chilling in these cases for awhile never had any issue with moisture but I’ll start taking more precautions

I think if I were to be *traveling* with a case, I would prefer a Pelican just to have that safety net of the name brand & probably a little better quality for protection. @@BostonSchulz The case worked great! And yes, the shots turned out well and it was nice traveling with peace of mind. Thanks again for the recommendation!
Thanks for the helpful video. That case looks like it could be good, but how would you fit everything into it? If you have a camera, a couple of lens, some speedlights and some flash triggers, that looks like it would fill up very quickly and not be able to hold anything else. I don't know where I'd store extra lenses if I were to add more to my collection. Do you find it has run out of space already?
That's a good question...so this is pretty much a case for safe keeping my important gear. My speedlights and triggers are literally tossed in a box and I grab them out as I need them. I also have a different bag that I use when I go to shows/shoots, so this case stays at home for storage use only really. I know a lot of people that use Pelicans for their everything & travel bag...but that's not what I was looking for here. If I was, I probably would have gotten a larger/deeper sized case. I'm also hearing from a lot of people that they use 2-3 of these to store all their gear. I guess, long story short, it just depends on what you need and what you're planning on using it for. So glad it was helpful! I definitely recommend it for storage. Definitely helpful for moisture and dust. Most of my lenses were collecting dust on a shelf, and I feel so much better knowing that they're safe in this case now! 📸
It looks like a very good case for the money. I have several "Tundra Sea King" cases, I probably bought them before this reviewer was born. This complete case costs less than replacement foam!
I mentioned that I don't travel with these, they're simply storage & only in my car when I need to bring extra to shoots. And they're PERFECT for that, and I'm saving big bucks off the name brand. :)
I use my case for storage. I add some silica packets to keep it dry, but I'm also in a fairly dry climate. I also make sure if my camera is wet or damp, I let it dry out for a day before putting it in the case. And I haven't had any issues with fungus...going on over 2 years of using this case too. Hope that helps!
if you aren't sure I'd buy a dry cabinet might be expensive at the beginning but if you are planning to do photography for years to come it's worth it for the long run
I like condition 1 cases they are USA made half the cost of pelican cases, condition 1 does not have as many sizes ad pelican but they have a good selection
I just looked up Condition 1 and they look great! Still more expensive than the case that I purchased, but looks like another great option. Thanks for sharing!!
I almost bought a black one and the latches were ridiculous to open and decided to go with orange to make them more obvious when I’m doing shoots as I like to have a quick visual overview and most of my gear and the inside of my car is black.
Yes! I still use these (I now have two of them) and they're still perfect for me...I mostly use them for storage of my gear when I'm not using it but also use them for quick/easy traveling case.
Thanks for watching, Neil! That's such a bummer!!! I wish they could be because it's a great option. Hopefully your local hardware store will have something similar?
(Apologies for the delayed response! Getting back into the swing of UA-cam!!) 📸✨ I love this case! I now have two of them, and I use them to store all my gear when I'm not actively using it. Still love them and recommend them!
Not really sure I'm willing to trust a case that is a fraction of the cost of the Gear I'm storing in it. Looks like you have a couple thousand worth of gear there. Best of Luck with the Apache 4800.
I mention in the video that I'm looking for a storage box to mostly keep it dust proof. Right now, this is 100x more safe and secure than how I was storing my gear previously, so it's perfect for me! Regardless, a Pelican case is also barely a fraction of the cost of my gear. Both have great reviews and I think this case is perfect for a low cost option, but at the end of the day, it's whatever your most comfortable with!
The company I work for buys then resells them adding $40 to the price tag and one employee bought one and showed it to me but I bought a Koah of the same size 18 inches for 50% off for $32 total price
Yes! You can travel with this! They have a few different sizes so you can find what works for you and your flight. That being said, these do NOT have wheels, so they'd be a little difficult to travel with.
I don't like back packs so I can't advise or recommend any usage. There are lots of creators that have backpacks they recommend, but it's just not my jam!
I'm not sure what you mean. I use these cases for storage and then my camera & lenses go into my camera bag (which is padded / made for camera gear) when I want to use them. I just find these hard cases more secure, protective, and honestly, cheaper & easier to use than having padded separate cases & bags for everything. But each person likes storaging their gear differently!
I have no plans on traveling with mine, just simply storage within my house, so no reason for wheels. But I do know a lot of people love the wheeled ones as they're easier to travel with!!
Pelican is very good, but not 3X as good as Apache or the Amazon brands. If you want Pelican, buy Pelican. If you care about protecting your gear but not about having "Pelican" emblazoned on your cases, buy a more financially responsible brand. Either way, insure your gear.
What do you use for your camera storage??

It looks like a very good case for the money. I have several "Tundra Sea King" cases, I probably bought them before this reviewer was born. This complete case costs less than replacement foam!
I think they also sell the replacement foam! And yes, I'm still obsessed with it - it's a great case!
You said, "I don't know what a Pelican case feels like" My dear; protect your expensive gear, little extra $$ is justified. Wishing you the best!!!
I mentioned that I don't travel with these, they're simply storage & only in my car when I need to bring extra to shoots. And they're PERFECT for that, and I'm saving big bucks off the name brand. :)
Can i keep my camera and leneses there when im not using? No issue with fungus?
It is worth the extra to buy American made products
I almost bought a black one and the latches were ridiculous to open and decided to go with orange to make them more obvious when I’m doing shoots as I like to have a quick visual overview and most of my gear and the inside of my car is black.
100%! I think we all love the vintage design - I know so many camera companies are bringing it back in their mirrorless designs too!
Awesome video and channel!
Thank you so much! I appreciate the support!!
Thank you!!!
You're welcome! ✨
Hi!
Awesome video.
Follow up question: is the case still working out for you after a few years of use?😁
Yes! I still use these (I now have two of them) and they're still perfect for me...I mostly use them for storage of my gear when I'm not using it but also use them for quick/easy traveling case.
Great video -awesome case ! Shame they are not available in the UK :-(
Thanks for watching, Neil! That's such a bummer!!! I wish they could be because it's a great option. Hopefully your local hardware store will have something similar?
Hi what store did you purchase this from? Would rather do a walk in. My research show their online service is pretty janky and sketch. Thank you!
I purchased this case from a local Harbor Freight Tools!
i'm in love
With me or the case?! I keep buying these cases, so I'm gonna assume it's the case. 🤣
Awesome! Thanks
Thanks for watching & commenting!! ✨
Awe. How did the case work out for you?
Markups get crazy! I have two of these now and I love them! 💼
Thank you!
Thanks for watching! Hope the video helped!!
@@BostonSchulz Yes it did. I purchased one yesterday!
Nice review Madam.
Glad you liked it; thanks for watching!
Can this case in to plane cabin?
Yes! You can travel with this! They have a few different sizes so you can find what works for you and your flight. That being said, these do NOT have wheels, so they'd be a little difficult to travel with.
How about a back pack strap ....
I don't like back packs so I can't advise or recommend any usage. There are lots of creators that have backpacks they recommend, but it's just not my jam!
Awesome!
Thanks!! 🤘📸
Thank you for this ! ive been looking for a inexpensive case.
Glad I could help! I've been using it every since I filmed this video and I still love it. :)
Hiii, havent seen new vids from u lately....
Hey!! I know 😅 I'm coming back next month - I promise!
End caps on lenses pls!...
...what do you mean? I have lens caps on all my lenses.
@@BostonSchulz at 5:57... No matter, I just cringed there, LOL BTW I like your style ;)
Why don’t you have padded lens cases and something to wrap up your camera? Throwing them into a sturdy bag shouldn’t be a problem at all.
If you cant throw it down a flight of stairs, its not worth enough protection. Its how i tested all my cases with a dummy camera of course.
I'll have to go find a flight of stairs to throw these down!! 😂
should have always got one with wheels
I have no plans on traveling with mine, just simply storage within my house, so no reason for wheels. But I do know a lot of people love the wheeled ones as they're easier to travel with!!
Pelican is very good, but not 3X as good as Apache or the Amazon brands. If you want Pelican, buy Pelican. If you care about protecting your gear but not about having "Pelican" emblazoned on your cases, buy a more financially responsible brand. Either way, insure your gear.
Agreed!
You have too many teeth
I promise you that I have the normal amount of teeth. 😁
