I dont care what anyone else says or does. Mario Andretti will always be the motorsports GOAT. We are fortunate to still have him around the sport and telling great stories.
I grew up in Indy. Cut grass at track, sold newspapers when I was 10. Ran a food trailer on Georgetown Rd. Anything I could do to be at the track. My first race 1963. This man is ultimate Indy 500 guy along with AJ. I knew Aldo at the Firestone store….. I’m 73 and been a “track guy” all my life….. Hey, Jr, this is best interview ever. A legend for sure.
Sir, I'm in the Louisville area - the outfit I worked for trained he horses for AJ for many years - I've had the privilege to spend time with AJ - I'm an Indy veteran - I went to 5 in the 80s and early 90s - I appreciate where you come from and I wish you the best
Nobody has won in more different types of cars than Mario. Dirt? Monza? Indy? Daytona? Sports cars? F5000? NASCAR? F1? HE DID IT ALL. And he was competitive until his mid 50s. All time greatest. And a wonderful, personable, engaging man in person.
Can't get over the man's enthusiasm. With all he has accomplished, he still talks about his passion like a teenager...with a smile and a mischievous twinkle in his eye. Thank you to both of you.
Mario is such a legend! Who hasn't heard the line when you are driving to fast, " who do think you are, Mario Andretti?". His enthusiasm is so awesome! Great interview Dale!
Mario Andretti is racing royalty not only over there in the US but here overseas as well. The guy is a racing god. To keep the Andretti name out of F1 is more about the other teams money grabbing. Than its is about the Andrettis and their ability. Its kind of disgraceful how F1 has dealt with this. On a positive note. That was an outstanding interview. 👍
It’s a disgrace, The name Andretti would draw so much extra viewers. So not only a disgrace but also stupid from a commercial point of view. It’s crazy FOM let’s the teams shoot the organization in the commercial foot. Didn’t that Concorde agreement get revised? Because that was why the teams had that power. It’s ridiculous.
What "GREAT INTERVIEW "!!!! He's one of the GREATS!!! True GOAT of racing 🏁 I'm 71. Followed Mario throughout the decades. What an inspiration,a great human being Ana☯️☮️
Mario is an old school gentleman. What a remarkably talented race car driver. Mario was generous to give my son Zach an interview via Zoom during Covid. . It was so surreal seeing my son interview one of my childhood idols. Same goes for you Dale Jr. When you were racing, you were my favorite driver and you knowing my son now on a friendly basis is mind blowing. I admire that you have always stayed true to yourself and stayed grounded and unabashedly honest. Sending much love to both families.
WOW, great interview Dale! You brought out his passion. When Mario was talkin about developing the down force on those cars. He looked like he was 35 years old. You could see it in his eyes. That was awesome
Thank you Jr for this fantastic interview and letting Mario talk. I hung on every word. Amazing fascinating stuff! Mario’s laugh while showing the Indy 500 ring was priceless.
Love watching such a humble Jr. interview such a legend like Mario. Jr's just a salt of the earth guy and Mario is larger than life. Thanks Jr. and Mario.
Thank you for this wonderful interview. I attended the 1968 USGP at Watkins Glen. I will never forget seeing Mario on the pole in the Gold Leaf Team Lotus with the high-mounted rear wing. I resent the hell out of the current F1 cabal for their ridiculous attempts, so far successful, to block an Andretti/Cadillac F1 team from joining "The Circus."
@@twoblacklabs904 I hope you're correct. I'm not as confident, although the current Concorde Agreement has a provision for 12 teams. That agreement expires at the end of the 2025 season. There are far too many drivers capable being competitive in F1. The addition of 2 more teams and 4 drivers would open some seats. Martin Brundle said F1 would benefit with 24 cars on the grid. I agree completely . . . hoping you are correct regarding Andretti being an immovable force.
"252 miles per hour on the straightaway" at Michigan in 93. Wow. That was a great interview, I saw the passion and excitement still in him. He is the best if not top 2 all time in my book. I think Andretti will have a car in Formula 1 and how badass will it be for the power to be Cadillac! I met and shook hands with Mario at an autograph session in 2005 or so and he had the most pillowy, softest hands I'd ever felt. Quite a long line and such a gracious man, who was kind and genuine.
I was there, sitting right in his pit box during that run. He was sending it and it was so fun to be up close to see how much of himself he put into racing in the moment.
I’ve heard just about every Mario story there is, but that one about the ‘81 race was a new one and I am so glad he can tell it like it was. And I have seen Mario so many times but I didn’t ever know he wears that winner’s ring and I’d love to have noticed it when I met him. What a legend.
1:03:45 Oh my gosh, this is so much better than either of the other videos I watched. A racer asking a racer just the right questions. Mario getting all kinds of excited. 😂
Great interview Jr.! I was at Darlington last year and Mario did an autograph session with Nick Sanchez. Mario is a legend and could easily big time the fans, but no. He was so cool and he was a total gentleman. I got to thank him for doing that later on pit road. What a great guy! His contributions to auto racing as a whole are immeasurable.
Please interview A.J. Foyt before it's too late. The old guard is leaving us everyday and once they're gone so are their stories if they're not told. RIP Rufus Parnelli Jones.
I love this!!!! Dale Jr your a lucky man. In life. In career. And now being able to do these for yourself and Us as Fans. Thank you so much for all the hard work from Dirty MO Media!!!
Mario won his WDC when I was 1 and the first toy I remember was a big plastic Lotus 78. He and Rick Mears have been my favorite racing drivers for literally as long as I've been conscious.
Class act!!!!!!! Watched him sign numbers of autographs and twice as many pictures. Takes time for all. Top 5 greatest racer in any sport. Even at his age he remembers even laps in detail. All race fans should watch this. Great job Dale!!!!!!! I know you enjoyed.
Good day Mr Earnhardt this is probably the best video I've seen you do so freaking amazing. I was hoping maybe he would have drove into the Indianapolis 500 in 1973 I would love to hear his aspect on that day. I wish I had a time machine please take me back to the 50s. Just imagine if NASCAR had a truck series back in the 50s
I have had the pleasure to meet mario at RA when he was grand marshall for the vintage races. Total class act and a real racer. A team was racing one of his Lotus 79s. They were kind enough to talk to me about the car and let me really get a close look at it. I asked them how the car was running. They said really fast, especially after Mario had stopped by in the morning to look at the car. He was giving the mechanic setup tips for what he thought would work RA, springs, ride heights, tire stuff. This was 30 YEARS after he had last raced the car. They were floored that Mario remembered all that stuff. A true legend!
Great conversation between Dale Jr. and Mario Andretti. The first time I saw Mario was at Indianapolis in 1965 and I've followed his career ever since. Dale Jr. is a special guy and one of my favorites to watch and listen.
An Interview for the Ages! Super Mario will always be my FAV driver. I still Remember Robert O Williams taking pictures at your house. I used to live near you and produced his photographs. Loved it. Had a summer home in the Poconos too.
IIRC, Andrew Kurland interviewed Mario on the Next Level with Andrew Kurland a couple years ago. Maybe even before Covid?! Great interview, Dale! The Andretti name stands alone as one of our great success stories! Right up there with AJ, Dan Gurney and the Unser family!!
I have known about Mario Andretti since before he started racing Indy cars. My father was into racing big time and being from Pennsylvania we knew about him very early. Have followed the Andretti's my whole life through all of their careers. I just turned 70 . That was the best interview I have ever seen with Mario. I learned so many things that I never heard before from him or read about. Thank you Dale, you bring out the best in all these guys!
Stellar interview..back in the day Aldo used to live in Brownsburg indiana.he and Mario used to own a Firestone service center in speedway.i worked at a parts store in Brownsburg and they used to come in and buy cases of oil and antifreeze when we had a sale..nice folks....
I really enjoyed Mario being on. If there is a word greater than legend he and AJ are there. Great job as always and always look forward to the next show!
Almost became a Triple Crown Winner; 2nd place at Le Mans during his final years behind the wheel. Also only driver to perform an airborne 360 and still land on all fours lol.
Great interview as usual Dale. When asked about Mario's most memorable wins I was surprised he left out his first win in his FIRST RACING START IN HIS RACING CAREER in the humble 6 cylinder Hudson at the Nazareth 1/2 mile which could be an inspiration to many of today's young up and coming drivers.
Loved it and would really love to see him back in the studio. I think it would be a different type of discussion in person. Hoping Andretti Global finally enters NASCAR, it should have happened years ago. And I wonder if Michael gave Pops a hard time about wearing the old logo on his shirt in that interview!!😂
Such a wonderful interview. I had the tremendous opportunity to do four laps in a two seater with Mario at Indianapolis and it was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. Dale, I wonder if you've seen the film Drive Like Andretti. It covers much of his early childhood and is very moving.
My original racing Hero. Love the painting of the Daytona 24H Ferrari 312PB behind Mario. How cool would it be to just to walk thru his home and see all the history he has there in his office and trophy room?
Wow!! Dale this was wonderful. You are so intelligent with your knowledge. You keep the conversation going. Thank you for all your effort! I know you and Amy and the girls have enjoyed this time together at the beach. Blessings to you and yours. ❤ 🙏
