Always with helpful info...not every homeowner or occasional tree faller can afford a professional tree jack...but we all can afford a short car hydrolic jack. 2 thumbs up!
I planned on doing this with an 85ft leaning poplar. Even bought a jack. But then I chickened out and left it alone. Ironically, I planted the damn thing as a seedling over 30 years ago.
It is safer to do your back cut first and then plant the jack in place. Then cut out your face leaving an ample hinge. Doing the back cut first keeps about half the wood in place so the tree will not set back. When you do the face cut you want to have the jack and wedges in and supporting the back of the tree.
I would not use a steel wedge in case I messed up and hit it with my saw chain. I would also put a wooden block on top of the jack at the cut line just in case so I wouldn't hit the jack. Cuz I mess up a lot.

Please don't say "Pretty simple and easy, anybody can do it". This is simply NOT true. You have a wealth of knowledge and skill that the average home owner (DIY'er) does NOT have. Great job dude. I'm researching using the jack method to fell a tree for a client of mine. Insurance won't cover me if my feet are off the ground (I would rather rent a bucket lift and take it down from the top down) and the only "tree" guy I've found won't provide me with proof of his insurance, so I've decided to take it out myself using the hydraulic jack. I've pictured and reasoned everything in my head, and you've just shown me what I've been thinking. Thanks a bunch, but please don't try to make it look like "anybody" can do it. I've worked in the woods. I've seen stupid. I've carried my partner out of the woods to the hospital. Everybody CAN'T do this.
Top notch felling my good man, you also explained the process very well which is sometimes missing from similar videos. I disagree with your point that "anyone can do this", this is highly dangerous and skilled work for properly trained and experienced individuals. I think you did yourself, your crew and the rest of our indut a disservice by saying that.
i just watched someone cutting up an oak tree with a chainsaw that was pathetic-it was vibrating the user-jumping and jerking and kicking back something terrible-seems to me he would have changed to a different saw or fixed that one
WAIT! A STEEL wedge used as a felling wedge?? You don't supposed to do that! There's a reason wedges around cutting chains are "cuttable." I've been in the same situation where it was use a steel wedge, or leave the tree and drive to town for a plastic one, and I too chose to risk the chain. In your case, the chain has done its work and won't ever be back in the neighborhood of the steel wedge.

You make it look like anyone can do it... You make it look easy... But you're a master feller.. No question.. Fun to watch too... Be safe
No not just anyone can do this! You are a very talented person. Love your videos.
Killer idea man!

I have some jumbo pines a customer wants down next month. It’s gonna be a blast.
I've watched a couple of your videos. Why do you make the back cut below the hinge?
I need to get a big saw!!

The tree is big. He has already cut way past where the wedge would go.
😊
nicely done
Yes but wondering how they got that tree off the hill safely.
@@MikeJones-rk1un How else would you remove it? By bucking it and taking the logs down.
@@Bournefort I'm picturing those huge logs rolling down that steep hill out of control, or as you say, taking the logs down....
Who sells the rope come-a-longs? Sure works better than a block and tackle.

Why would you remove such a beautiful tree?
That is a house killer.
Because he was payed to. The real question is why would the owner pay somebody to have it removed?

I'm about to do one like that, its because its too close to the house, and by too close I mean closer than it is tall.

With a stump that high, i would use a Humboldt notch.

not everybody can do this
This gives homeowners bad ideas…spend the $1500 and get a borntrager…cheaper than any error and having a crew come in to do it for you
why do people absolutely fuck up a good video with stupid annoying music
