I’ve been using Cubase for years and this is the clearest most concise and practical tutorial I’ve ever seen for Mastering in it. Finally it all makes sense.
Best mastering video I've seen for Cubase or otherwise. Very direct and efficiently delivered, useful information. This is information I can actually apply. Thank you.
This is a great example of knowing your gear instead of getting new gear is often the answer. Thank you very much for your tutorials. I've been trying to master mastering since forever, and find it so archaic.
Finally a clear and understandable video. Still a lot to learn, but to see the workflow and why sertain plugins are used is valuable. Thank you for the great lesson!
My hats off to you one of the few using the basics . No fab filter , god particle or even ozone . Mastering can be achieved with the right objective training
Now, finally here we go! We're entering pro-territory. Thanks for this straight forward tutorial, tons of information here, no garbage, no half-knowledge, this guy really has done his homework. In other words: This is the real thang, folks!
Man I've watch a lot of Mastering videos and never has their been an explanation as great and more detailed as this one! I smiled with my eyes glued with amazement as to how great the steps were, what to do , what not to do in mastering! what needs to be done to correct issues either from the mix in the song or how to correct them in mastering without using any other plugins outside of cubase! Thank you for the training course! I appreciate all the hard work you and your crue have done!!!
Started a couple of days ago for the last video (mastering) that came across mi YT timeline. I liked it so much that I saw all 28 other videos of this playlist during the weekend. Excellent tutorial. Thanks a lot, Steve. Hope the channel grows really fast!
True - his detail-orientated teachings are a breath of fresh air. Some people with knowledge want to bait you with some vague tutorials on UA-cam, just to later sell you a course.
Wow! So thorough! This is your first video that I have watched, but I subscribed and will check out more. I will be sure to watch this episode again as I approach this stage on my project. Thanks so much!
Thanks - this video was a big help and I learned a lot - even though I quite successfully master my tracks since years I took away a few learnings and things I will approach different now! Thanks so much !!
I finally got a better understanding of the compressor. The vacuum cleaner effect wow! I still might leave mastering up to the pros but at least now I’m more confident and aware of what’s all involved. Awesome video thank you!
Thank you for the hard work you’ve put into this video. By watching it repeatedly, I have began to understand what is said. I’ve got Cubase 12 pro and am going to attempt to Master a track, that I’ve done. Obviously, I’ve got a long way to go, but your video has been undoubtably a massive help in my learning curve. Thank you again.
Great video. I have a question: after the maximizer you put the Magneto II in the signal chain… So, if you raise the Maximizer output level, then it will overdrive the Magneto II Input?
This is a much bigger topic than a comments reply, but in a nutshell... the output knob on the Maximizer assumes that your mix is enough in the ballpark that the 'Optimize' control can create the volume boost required to achieve 'Mastered' levels. The Maximizer effect itself is also a limiter and restricts the output level so, in a mastering scenario, this output control would rarely be used. As such, the tape effect is just for color and sees no additional gain. However, the Maximizer can be used on all sorts of other things for effect, hence the output knob. Typically, by the time you get to the Mastering Stage, it is assumed that your project gain staging has already been optimized.
Thank you for such full and clearly explained steps on mastering. I'm so pleased to discover featherlightstudio master tutorial. I'll be returning since there's much to do and you explain all so well.
Squasher is certainly capable of the task but, for mastering, Steinberg;s traditional 4 band Multi band comp is a more precise tool for the mastering workflow. Squasher is better suited for specific sounds or channels because of the upward compressor design. Kind of a scalpel vs a hammer comparison.
Cubase will let you create any number of Busses and submixes you want and then, using the Export Audio Panel, select any combination of those outputs as individual export jobs.

Fantastic. Most Cubase videos on mastering introduce third-party plug-ins vs just using Cubase mastering tools.

Excellent. Very informative. Thankyou!!
Great video, this - thank you so much 🙂
Gracias hermano por compartir tus conocimientos con los que estamos iniciando en este pasatiempo como lo es la produccion de musica,
No hay de que amigo mío. Me alegro de que haya sido útil.
This is great! Can or do you recommend Squasher as a good choice for the multiband cmpressor for mastering?
Squasher is certainly capable of the task but, for mastering, Steinberg;s traditional 4 band Multi band comp is a more precise tool for the mastering workflow. Squasher is better suited for specific sounds or channels because of the upward compressor design. Kind of a scalpel vs a hammer comparison.
Great vid!
One question though.
So we never have to export in 48Khz 24Bit setting? even for UA-cam videos and such?
The export option panel lets you configure exports of just about any kind possible, way to many to cover in one video.
Can you use a stereo bus as an alternative on export to cue everything at once? 1 w UV22 and 1 without?
Cubase will let you create any number of Busses and submixes you want and then, using the Export Audio Panel, select any combination of those outputs as individual export jobs.
I'm your new subscriber, your teaching is cool and understand, thank you very much for this tutorial!
This is amazing, thanks so much.
