  • A follow up video on my Cub Cadet XT2 GX54, 2016. Overall I'm happy with the purchase. Hopefully you find this video helpful if you are in the market. The newer model has a better transmission than the one I purchased (XT2 GX54d with locking rear differential).

    Have the same mower as you. A 2016 GX54 Fab deck. Has 350 hours so far and no issues besides that it is on its 4th starter and I had the same push button issues as you.

      The starter thing is really annoying considering its been a great machine outside of that. Luckily still only on my second but about half the hours as yours. Glad you’ve had good luck otherwise. Its a great homeowner machine. Do you use yours besides mowing?

      @@sethfisher6267 just for a little yard work some. We mow about 6-7 acres and this cub was the main mower since it was new in 2016. Recently picked up a Toro Groundsmaster 345 with a 72in deck to tackle the big open areas faster then use the Cub Cadet for the smaller areas. Still love the mower!

    Nice review. I was seriously considering this mower with the 48 inch deck, but for the money and features, the Husky 348XD is a much better buy. The John Deeres are just wayyyy too overpriced.

    I have the same mower but only have 1.2 hours on it. I love the blue tooth but I am not a fan of the push button start. I almost got the XT-3 but the $5400 price changed my mind. My old LTX-1040 lasted a long time so the CC was the only option for me and the local dealer treated me well with my old CC. I really like the new Cub Cadets and picked the GX model because it has the next up model of the Tuff Torque hydrostatic tranny. Nice review by the way and your video is not sorry lol. On a side note the custom cover the CC has is real nice.
    I did spend the effort to install a headlight switch LOL

      Headlight switch is a good move. And I agree...for $5,400 for an XT3 I would probably look at other options. Glad you liked the review and didn’t find it “sorry.” Not sure what he meant by that lol...good luck with your purchase

      I would suggest the troy-bilt super bronco garden tractor xp 54 inch cut.i own 2 of them and use them in my mowing business.plus a have 3 zero turn mowers all 3 made by troy-bilt,2 are the mustang 54 inch zero turn mowers that I bought back in 2015.and the other is the z54 troy-bilt that I bought last year.but if you really like zero turn lawn mowers the big cub-cadet 54 inch zero turn lawn mower is a great mower to and believe it or not it got front head lights on it in case you have to mow a little later and need some lights to see where your going.i have met and taked to a lot of guys that are using them to mow lawns with and not one of them has had not one bad thing to day bad about them now!!!!!

    After through research: jd doesn't offer fabricated decks and the local dealers have stopped selling Huskies. The GX 54D stands alone w a 25 hp engine, fabricated deck, and locking differential. The Oct 2022 price is now $4400. FJB.

    Very helpful review! Very early in my decision process, but right now I think I'm favoring the GX54 D as a good all-arounder. I'll be needing that locking diff for snowblowing, and the yard is broad enough that 54" could be used everywhere.
    Are you happy with the speed and handling as you mow, and do you find you ever use the cruise control (if that's even a feature on this one)?

    • @sethfisher6267
      @sethfisher6267  4 роки тому

      The speed of the mower in general is good. Practicality of mowing at high speeds will depend on how rough your lawn is I suppose. I mow at full throttle of course but about half speed. It does have cruise control which I would use if my straightaways were a bit longer. I think it would suit you well. Like I said maybe also look at the Husqvarna

      @@sethfisher6267 Yeah, there's a lot to like about the TS 354XD and it's definitely in the running. I think if I was going to use it only to cut grass and haul stuff in a cart, the Husq would be a shoo-in. The biggest factor right now between these is how expensive and functional their snowblower attachments are, and both have their mix of negative reviews and problems, so I'm trying to find the better bet between them. I also really like the leaf bagger that cub cadet makes that feeds into the cart.
      Thanks for answering my questions!

    How much gas does this thing use per hour? And does it have power steering?

    • @sethfisher6267
      @sethfisher6267  3 роки тому

      I mow about an acre+ with it a week and I get a few weeks out of a tank. Tank I believe is three gallons. Seems about right to me. No power steering available but the steering is light regardless

    Just traded my XT2 54 in on the Husky TS354XD. My cub had 59 hours on it. I have had issues with shaking and vibrating. The 25 horse Kohler would die out in leaves and heavy grass. The starter button I did not like at all. The bagging system was a clog hog. Just very disappointed in the mower.

      The husky looks like a good bang for the buck, but a shaft driven xt3 might be stronger? It would only be home use, pull a cart with wood or dirt, not many hills. Just want a reliable mower. How’s your new mower holding up?

  • @VanillaGorilla_Machinist

    How has the snowplowing with this? Wes pretty disappointed when I borrowed my brothers exact tractor as yours to mow on my steep hill and have since considered going to a Simplicity Conquest or Broadmoor 25/48 so I can get at least a K62 trans

      Good question. I use weights on the rear with chains. Does fairly good for me but the driveway is level. I wouldn’t push it more than 5-6” of snow. I snowblow if its deep snow. If you can go bigger/heavier duty you definitely should.

    Ha ok guys I had a lawn mower just like this until it cault fire and burn up.ok I have a big lawn mowing business now,so last spring I bought this mower to help me out on some of my bigger lawns I had to mow.well it came to this past fall and then almost 1 mouth from xmas and people were bugging me to death to come and mulch up these leaves so that they could put out there xmas ornaments on there lawns.so I took my mulch plug off of my big troy-bilt super bronco garden tractor and put it on this cub-cadet mower because both brands are made by mtd anyhow.so I started mulching up the leaves and in front of the mower is where the exalt system is and it really gets hot,so I stopped for a minute and got of the the mower to look and some places in the yard to see if I could use my leaf blower and get rid of the leaves in that part of the yard than mulch them up.so when I came back my whole front of my lawn mower was on fire.because or the leaves had fell down in between the exalt system and the big plastic hood that folds over and covers the mowers motor.and it went fast to now and burnt up all the wires and plastic on the hood and almost burned to whole mower plum up.so from now on I only by lawn mowers that have a real metal hood on them that covers the mowers motor like the troy-bilt ones.so guys and gals play it safe buy you a mower that has a medal hood and not made of plastic.that motor and exalt system gets hot now,even when real dry grass or leaves or even paper that might get into there and start up your mower on fire!!!!!

      If you had an engine fire, I highly doubt a metal hood is going to help much.

      Hi Mike, the purpose of the yard portion was to demonstrate the cut quality of the mower, and the limitations of traction that I experience. Considering it is a review on a lawn mower, folks may find those things relevant. Thanks
