- Viganella in the Italian region of Piedmont lies at the bottom of a deep valley. It usually gets no sunshine in deepest winter. A giant mirror reflects sunlight into the town square. For more Europe go to www.dw.com/en/top-stories/euro...
Visited this beautiful village 2 weeks ago, without knowing it was famous for the mirror. I walked the dark alleys between stone houses at night, almost all of which were abandoned. Truly a unique experience. It was freezing cold and the abandoned homes, the total silence and the completely empty alleys gave it a spooky feeling. I thought to my self "a vampire movie could be filmed here" lol.
If anything all the village in the Valle Antrona and all of our valleys are like this in winter unfortunately
good science and good politicians can bring brilliant ideas to benefit the people !
Great video - thanks:)
Super awesome ❤️
Should try using convex mirror so the light can spread throughout the village
Solar cannot accommodate concave and convex applications.
Why not? They are rerouting light energy and not trying to leverage Solar energy! I think they indeed used Convex mirror here..
Remember that the light has to travel 1 more KM, sk spreaded light would disperse quickly…they just need more mirrors….
@@sharonwright7932 Are you dumb? It's a mirror...
Install multiple mirrors like this with some gaps.
Commendable
Such a nice use of technology . Actually this should be the purpose of science
To bright the life
Such tecnology is nothing but God's grace
Great video, but its better if you just write down the translation down rather than speak up, we want to hear the original/local language, and it becomes overlap if the presenter translates at the same time
Does it bring any significant heat with the reflection?
I don't think so
The mirror looks to be about 4x8 meters. That means about 44kW of sunlight reflected which is not a lot for the whole village.
What happens to the mirror during high winds and storms? Is it stable enough?
Well i noticed the concrete basement and hydraulic movement, i think yeah
winds and storms are less probable in an all surrounding valley I think
@@salsabilahmedshrestho960 you would think that, but coming from this area even the very base of valleys, there is plenty of wind and rain about!
showed everything except sunlight reflecting
I’m here because of some twitter ad
Elon would totally agree with the Mayor!
Why don't they install more mirrors to get more light..? Are they satisfied with one mirror?
Maybe cause of it's cost? It's around 100000€
its a small village, the young ppl left, this village lost its use long time ago, they have no budget for large investments
