    • @Mandred85
      @Mandred85 9 днів тому +2

      As much I would agree, we're not as brutal as chimps. We're right in between chimps and bonobos. Not as peaceful as bonobos but also not as brutal as chimps. Humans have the capability of atrocities like chimps, we all know. But we're alse by default way more empathic than chimps, comparable to bonobos. A good example is sex. Chimps breed alot through rape, wich kind of makes sense that a strong male must be capable of overwhelming a female. Bonobos comunicate alot through sex, using it in a pacifistic way. Humans do both but the vast majority of us rather makes love than rape. It's just one of many analogies. My opinion is, that humans are the second most brutal primates right now.

    • @larrybremer4930
      @larrybremer4930 2 місяці тому +1

      The apes do communicate some emotional states verbally. Its not that they lack the intelligence to verbalize more complex language but rather its a combination of inferior brain centers related to communications along with a general physiology of their throats that make producing vowel sounds necessary for human language difficult if not impossible. Since many apes have been trained to sign in a modified ASL it is also clear that while they can learn the meaning of an extensive catalog of words they still have a lot of difficulty articulating complex ideas in their dialog, basically operating at a young toddler (approx human child of age 3) mental capacities.

    As a primatologist thank you SO MUCH for reacting to these! 🙏
    Also I can tell you that yes, most of the behavior, gestures, expressions, vocalisations even their social dynamics are very accurate. Some of it is changed for the storyline - Koba being aggressive and vengeful for a bonobo when in reality bonobos are known for their passivity and reconciliation rituals. Bonobos aren’t typically aggressive, Koba is the way he is as a result of the trauma of being an abused lab subject.
    So other than artistic license such as these and a few others, what you see of the apes’ gestures, expressions, social dynamics, hierarchy, etc is very accurate, not perfect, but it’s at least realistic and believable. The behavior, body language, and expressions and the context and nuance of such is what people almost always get wrong, so it was really nice to see them get it right. You can tell they really did their homework, and as a primatologist this makes me so happy to see.

      You’re very welcome. 😊 If you are interested, be sure to check out Frans De Waal’s presentation on Ted Talk entitled “The Surprising Science of Alpha Males”. It describes the relationships between different apes within a group and how they interact, from De Waal’s presentation you can actually see WHY Caesar is a great alpha male in the films, and how the behaviors of the other apes are also depicted in a realistic fashion.
      Frans De Waal sadly passed away recently from cancer, he was 75 years old. He was a brilliant brilliant primatologist, educator, and really discovered the truth that while we humans are certainly evolved no question, we still retain much MUCH of our primate behaviors and dynamics.

      @@blueroninstudiosI agree that the ending wasn’t great. But it was reasonably true to what happens in the original novel in 1963. The characters return to Paris only to find that apes are running the planet Earth.
      That all being said, I don’t like the book much. It’s one of the rare occasions where the movie adaptation was,in my opinion, far better. The original Planet Of The Apes movie made some changes - chiefly that the planet turns out to be earth in the future - which was far more thought provoking that Boulle’s original work.

    As someone who had an undergraduate in anthropology I really appreciated the possibilities explored by this film. You mentioned that you too had studied anthropology. One correction; humans are not absent a single primal drive present in the ape family species, however, the development of the relative oversized neocortex plus strong cultural development as compared to the other ape species, mitigate those instincts in healthy societies, and in healthy adult individuals for homo sapiens.

    This movie is a prequel to the original 1968 movie but it’s also a reboot that ignores the other movies. And it completely reinvents the character of Caesar who has a completely different backstory and personality in the third, fourth and fifth movies.

    After I watched this series I went back and watched the original versions and the scene where Cesar yells no in this movie is actually an aspect that’s used in the original planet of the apes. In the original planet of the apes they’re far more advanced and developed as a civilization because it’s supposed to be in the future and the main female ape talks about the first ever ape to defy the human race spoke for the very first time by saying NO

    Great reaction, but I wish you'd listened to the people who said you should watch the original from 1968 first (and the followup films as well; no, they're not as good as the original and each one does progressively go downhill, but the overall story concept is interesting) - there are a LOT of Easter Eggs in this movie that you will 100% miss if you're not familiar with the original series. I'm glad that you're going to watch the original 5 eventually; hopefully, when you see things in the original that were referenced in this movie, you'll remember them and go, "Oh! That's where that came from!" 😋
    Regardless, I always enjoy watching your reactions to movies that I've enjoyed, and I look forward to you watching the rest of this trilogy. 👍‍

    Fun facts:
    All the emotion, all the movement done by the apes, especially Ceasar, is done by motion capture.
    Andy Serkis wanted to push the technology and ability to act as these characters further.
    So happy you got to experience this film, can't wait for you to see the ones that follow!

    19:40 Many people miss this scene when it's so, so important. The bundle of twigs is the political symbol of fascism, dating back to the time of the roman empire (strength in unity and all that). So the movie tells us outright what kind of ruler this modern Ceasar is going to be...
