Hi thanks, yes there's a few about this year. This will be the first fish from the higher returns in 2020. Hopefully it kick starts something 🙏

Thanks for another excellent video Ian. Pity you lost that grilles but as you well know that’s how it goes..at least when you hook a fish you know your fly is the right one and your fishing properly. Always next time, well done though

Thanks Andrew, yes the right fly choice that night. If only we hooked something everyone we went out. Wouldn't be so much fun of suppose. 👍

Another great video, shame you had another one get away. I don't like going that far out in a boat never mind wading 😂 thanks for sharing 👌

Thanks for watching again Chris. Just used to it I suppose. Doesn't feel that far out. Yeah another one away, that's grilse for you though. Lose more than you land unfortunately with grilse. Tight lines 👍

Another great video! I'm actually fishing Waulkmill (Goldcastle) on Friday and wondered if you had any tips for someone who's never fished there before (or fished the Tay for that matter) and who's relatively new to salmon fishing!? I've struggled to get hold of the ghillie Harry to ask for advice on flies, setup, etc. I was just planning on taking my 14ft rod (biggest I've got) and hoping that my solid wading skills will allow me to cover water with a floating line and 5ft intermediate or hover tip. Any suggestions on fly size and is it a good idea to also take a spinning rod to cover some of the deeper bits? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi there, thanks for watching. Absolutely it's best to take a spinning rod as you'll be able to cover aome of the slower parts of the beat which are well worth fishing. Your rod and line set up is bang on and I would say a size 10 or even 12 fly, not too heavily dressed, cascade, park shrimp type fly and also some small black ones like executioners, munro killers etc. Hope that helps. Good luck 👍

Im looking forward to fishing Waulkmill on Wednesday, looks like there are plenty fish about just now. Doesnt look like you need to go down too deep to get to them, maybe 10 foot intermediate tip?

Hi, I would say even a 5ft intermediate tip now. There's a few fish starting to hold up in the beat which is nice to see. Thanks for watching 👍

Thanks Billy, we could do with keeping this water low another week or two to let numbers build up at the bottom end. I had the best of it certainly. 👍

Why don't you use a Ambassador Multiplying reel?
Use one in the 1960' & caught three salmon in five days on a Devon minnow!!

You can't cast as far with it. Perfect for the Devon or a floating Devon, trolling, worm etc but not as good as a fixed spool for distance. Well done on your catch, I'd love to have fished back then. Thanks for watching 👍

Where abouts do you send your reels for repair/service?

Just hooking one makes it worthwhile do you use a sink tip at this time of year.

    • @scottishoutdoorlife

Hi James. Yes I use 5ft of slow sink tip and sometimes change to intermediate in the lower water. Thanks again for watching 👍
