Really good content and comments. Would the Saudis buy a European bball league rather than start a new one in the US? I'd bet a lot of players would rather spend 9 months of the year in Italy or France or Germany rather than the Middle East.
Rather than start a new one in the US? there is no way they intend starting a league outside their country as the entire project is to bring the sport and attention to the middle east like they have done with every other sport. People said soccer stars wouldn't be moving there either but now the current MVP lives there. Salary caps in the NBA does not help either and maybe especially for the type of players that that is borderline worth max contracts, where they might never be offered one in the US the Saudi's could more than triple a max contract (Saudi would never implement a salary cap)
@@rednaskela4830you’re right. there’s no way they make there basketball league anywhere outside of Saudi. and at this point no NBA players would have a problem going to Saudi and playing for a few years. obviously nobody is gonna go spend their entire career there. but superstar players will definitely go play a few seasons and make crazy money. they’ve already seen Cristiano Ronaldo do it. Benzema, Mane and Kante are not big enough names for Americans to care about. but they’ve seen Ronaldo so it and now they will be ok with doing it too. plus LeBron James who is basically USA’s Cristiano endorsed the idea as well.
@@rednaskela4830 of course the saudis would have something like a salary cap, at least inofficially. they are all financed by the same government and won't compete financially with each other. so there will be agreements among the clubs. they would just make it higher than the nba and the question is how the nba would react to this. there is also the problem of sponsorships, you can make much more from that in the nba, at least as long as the saudi league is not as popular as the nba, so their pay would have to make up for that. question always is: how much and how long is the government willing to pay for this, especially if it doesn't work as fast as expected. the chinese super league (in football) tried to get footballers for huge sums and after a few years they realized that it didn't have the effect they hoped for and it quickly ended. and of course you have to ask yourself: what is their intention? where do they want to go with this?
Yeah, sad for us state side fans, great for the players. These players dont have loyalty to any NBA team. A kid for Compton or Chicago gets offered 50 million first year its game over. Or they just buy the whole NBA. When that happens is going to be a sad day but money talks, specially these mfers throwing numbers like its monopoly money.
They enslave poor indians and even some of their own people for free labor, and were blessed with oil under their feet. It’s almost impossible to compete with them. Like a real life evil empire.
Awe I thought this video will be how Saudi Arabia buys NBA teams which I think might happen but them offering Americans massive contracts is something I definitely see too
They will also need to get the best training staffing as well. It's not just the players that make the league. There are expert shooting coaches, dietitianist, physical therapist, Sports therapist, team coaches etc. Saudi can afford to pay all of them I know. I just hope that they know if you don't have all of that even top players will fall off. LeBron spends like a million a year just on health and fitness. Just saying.😊
As a Saudi, I watched a lot of videos that talk about our entry into the world of sports. This video is one of the best.😘 In terms of salaries, they usually receive 3x to 5x of the current salary. A player who receives 4m will receive 20m. There is an important point that you did not mention. There is no tax in Saudi Arabia, 0 tax. The plan is that with each year the number of funds paid decreases because the league has become better and there is a desire from the players first.
have they bought any player who would make 4m in europe? isn't it more like they get players that would make 20 and give them 100? players who make 4m or less aren't superstars and don't bring attention to the league, but they are the foundation of the top leagues. i think this is part of the problem, a league cannot become a top league if it has only a few superstars and many who wouldn't be considered top tier players in major football nations, but getting all those players would be far more expensive, without the benefit of attracting many fans. top4 leagues have combined salaries between 800 million (bundesliga) and 1,6 billion (premier league). if you pay 3-5 times of that you'll have to spend billions per year, for many years to come and there is no guarantee that wages will decrease. and that doesn't even include transfer fees, only wages. so spending tens of billions on the hope that the league gets popular enough to encourage players to go there for normal wages seems quite a gamble. it is also hard to convince a player to sign a 5m per year contract if there are still players on the team who make 5 times of that without being better players. lots of big egos in football
And the most important point is that it will be cheaper to take over the NBA than taking over Football/ Soccer because there are 22 players in a 1st team football squad and 17 on match day. where as it takes 11 to 15 players in a basketball squad. Unlike in the United States, in Europe and Asia we rarely have sport specific teams. We have sports clubs that will compete in every sport they can. For example: Al Hilal will have a football team, Basketball team, Horse Riding team and so on and so forth. Also, unlike the rest of the world, the Arab Sports initiatives are Government funded. They don't need an owner to dip in to his own funds to manager a club or pay players.
no, basketball players make more on average. the nba teams have higher overall payrolls than the premier league clubs. btw. many european clubs are not sport specific, it depends on the country, but in germany the clubs usually have teams in many sports, bayern munich for example also has a top tier basketball team and competes in many other sports, they even have chess and e-sports teams. in spain barcelona has teams in several sports that compete in top tier divisions (basketball, handball, futsal, ice hockey and many more). and most clubs don't get money from owners, they use what they earn
@@NR-fd9wv You seem to have misunderstood, this is what is said, "Unlike in the United States, in Europe and Asia, we rarely have sport specific teams" Also, "on average Basketball players make more" does not mean that it is more expensive to manage them. The reason why they earn more on average is because their teams are smaller.
@@hussainshiyam okay, i misunderstood the that part. if you look at the payrolls of NBA teams, they are higher than even in the premier league. the highest payrolls are similiar (around 200m $, but at the lower end NBA has still very high payrolls, the difference between top and bottom teams is more extreme in football. this is because NBA has salary caps and the system is designed to be more competitive. lowest payroll in the NBA this season is 130m $, lowest in premier league is around 10m $.
@@NR-fd9wv agreed. But what we are talking about is bottomless pockets of the Saud family. If they are targeting European football and winning, i got news, the NBA in comparison would be pocket change to acquire.
@@hussainshiyam bottomless pockets 💀 I can’t blame you, considering the fact that the country goes out of his way to get rid of any data about it but that is a far reach all they do strangle countries with oil prices and use said money on useless projects like this while most Saudis lack adequate housing, healthcare, sanitation and education that doesn’t sound like bottomless pockets, does it

Dkm, excellent video. Really got me thinking. I think 100% you are right. However, the biggest issue will be getting college and high school aged kids to go to Saudi Arabia. Despite the money, there is still a stigma in the US about the Middle East. Money of course can start to change that, but look at a guy like Gelo, not wanting to go to London. You think he would go to Saudi? Maybe…. Super starts late in their career know they will be well taken care of and will be safe, so not as big an issue to convince a guy like Westbrook. You nailed it with the NBA foreign stars. I can see the, leaving and that will be the start of it. Again, great reporting, I can see this happening soon. All it takes is 1 or 2 big names for the snowball (sand all in this case lol)to start rolling… I would love to see this happen!
What happens if they play the Saudi league in the US? Imagine the boost to employment and the economy with all the new stadiums they will have to build, and then the staff to work at the stadiums, and the media to film the games, and so on. This could be huge, but you will have to say goodbye to the us dollar and hello to the saudi riyal🤣🤣😂
Money!!!, yes money is what matters in the USA. More and more Americans have been traveling to the middle east to vacation (92% increased compared to 2019), you think they won't go there to make a boatload of money? You must not know many Americans lol

This is too funny😂 they can probably buy the NFL for cheap😂. Tom Brady’s whole career can’t even scratch the surface of these footballers and NBA players
Tell me you have no idea what you’re talking about without telling me you have no idea what you’re talking anout. The NFL is the most lucrative sports league in the WORLD. As much as you fanboys think instagram followers and fan numbers matter, that’s only a piece of it. The reason American sports are so lucrative, more than any other leagues in the world, is because of their massive TV deals. It’s all a business and those deals make the leagues worth a lot more than you might think.
NFL you trippin? That sport is not attractive and is watched only in America. Literally outside of America no one knows about it so it can’t generate money outside of America.
Thats great that the Saudis can just throw money at these players to entice them to go over there, but where is the return on investment for these Saudi's when the contracts they're offering are far greater than the global revenues for the sport itself? Are we really going to sit here and believe these savvy and crude business men are going to just light money on fire where there is virtually no path for profitability with this business model?
@@unceasinglotus9370not just that, but myself and everybody i know will look at you sideways if you even say you watch or support that shit. I assume that would be the case with virtually all of us who grewup loving the nba and still do.
That's the real question I had that this video missed out on. Let's say all high-level sports are owned and held there; realistically, will the entire world be watching, let alone carrying that their favorite player is representing another team in another country? Ultimately, they can buy out the players, but you can buy out fans, or you will have no return. The only way this will work is if they were to buy the sports league and leave them in their respective country. However, this would have a lower return since each country can tax them heavily, leaving a lot of the money circulating and not entering Saudi Arabia. But those are my thoughts. Anything can change.
@@Bft149 NBA tv ratings have dropped and viewership has been declining ever since. What’s the difference? Saudi can care less. They care about diversifying their money because oil is finite.
They really aren’t savvy at all. Their wealth was inherited and they were literally blessed with oil under their feet. Also benefit from a lack of human rights allowing them to get slave labor. It’s just a nepotistic, incest cesspool of Sheikhs grasping at straws as they see the end of the oil/gas gravy train. Money isn’t endless. They’ll learn that soon enough.
I think mid/top level players won't play in Saudi as of this moment. I'm thinking those former players that are out of the league (IT, Dwight, Wall, DMC) would be the first ones to play there because they know they have no chance of getting back at that level. I agree that top HS/college prospects might take this route instead of the G League or NCAA.
Nah I think players like Harrison Barnes and Jeremy Grant will be the first to get poached, along with Harden cuz it's Harden 😂 Those players are great role players with ability to avg 20 given the opportunity, but are underpaid under the new CBA. if Saudi offers NBA max contract to them I don't think they will reject.
This is not really true. Because basketball is not so popular in Saudi arabia nor middle eastern countries. So it's not a goal for Saudi. Maybe they will invest in NBA only.
You mean Westbrick, he is one of the worst player I have ever watched, I have been watching basketball since the late 70's, I lived in the US until the 2016. Now I live Saudi Arabia they don't care about basketball don't kid yourself
i agree on everything except the fact europeans b ball players did not grow watching the nba because of time zone!you re wrong nba is a dream that they work for!as every fans & players in europe we used to get up during night time to watch the nba!!!!!!!!!!
Let's do it! Better and improved competitions, more money for the players, variances in style of play. NBA was losing its place already. Now we can watch the NBA champion go against the best teams worldwide in an actually competitive game. What is the drawback to basketball fans?
It’s not improved competitions when one team is paying a player 200 million and other teams can’t afford to pay their players that much, it creates unbalance and would make worse games
Giannis also wont sign an extension with the bucks which leaves him open to go to saudi after 2 years...MY man sees the paycheck and he is going for it

This os completely possible and inevitable. Thanks for starting this conversation.
For me the only thing that would keep those players in the NBA would be the language and cultural barriers. But, of course the saudis will be ready for that.
When money talks anything in the USA entertainment industry can be bought.
As a soccer fan they are ripping apart our pleasure to root for the big teams
We've been following you since the ball era days. This is the most important video you have made in your life... This is crazy to think the NBA could be done in 10yrs, but based on the pattern you have shown, The saudi will be buying NBA after forcing their hand pooching most of their best prospect.
This was a really good video. Very eye opening
I’m Saudi and I assure you we don’t care about basketball, we only care about football.

If they move into basketball, they are gonna buy the league, it makes more sense money wise and marketing wise so yeah. It also means players contracts will start look ridiculous to the point where 300mill will be base level contract pay for star players
I think it's cheaper to buy the NBA entirely cuz they can mold the CBA however they want. They can grossly underpay all the players cuz where else are they gonna play? Europe can't afford to pay $20m so $30m max contract is enough to keep them around. That's half of what Brown is getting.
No, they want the league to be in their country, all of this is investment to get out of oil business and diversify their income! (basically they want to be the new dubai)

If the take over the nba it’s going to be sad
Yeah, sad for us state side fans, great for the players. These players dont have loyalty to any NBA team. A kid for Compton or Chicago gets offered 50 million first year its game over. Or they just buy the whole NBA. When that happens is going to be a sad day but money talks, specially these mfers throwing numbers like its monopoly money.
My father used to live there. The country has so much wealth they don’t even know what to do with it.
None of our fathers lived there, but we still already knew that
They enslave poor indians and even some of their own people for free labor, and were blessed with oil under their feet.
It’s almost impossible to compete with them. Like a real life evil empire.
Awe I thought this video will be how Saudi Arabia buys NBA teams which I think might happen but them offering Americans massive contracts is something I definitely see too
You blew my mind. Great video.
Trust me they got the money that part will be easy
they have plenty of talented coaches and staff to hire in countries like spain, italy etc, with the money they have that wouldn t be an issue :)
As a Saudi, I watched a lot of videos that talk about our entry into the world of sports. This video is one of the best.😘
In terms of salaries, they usually receive 3x to 5x of the current salary. A player who receives 4m will receive 20m. There is an important point that you did not mention. There is no tax in Saudi Arabia, 0 tax.
The plan is that with each year the number of funds paid decreases because the league has become better and there is a desire from the players first.
Selam. Tax free is a big point I’ll give you that...best investment will definitely be to buy the NBA completely.
As a Pakistani I can say that bro you are heading toward our way of bankruptcy
have they bought any player who would make 4m in europe? isn't it more like they get players that would make 20 and give them 100? players who make 4m or less aren't superstars and don't bring attention to the league, but they are the foundation of the top leagues. i think this is part of the problem, a league cannot become a top league if it has only a few superstars and many who wouldn't be considered top tier players in major football nations, but getting all those players would be far more expensive, without the benefit of attracting many fans. top4 leagues have combined salaries between 800 million (bundesliga) and 1,6 billion (premier league). if you pay 3-5 times of that you'll have to spend billions per year, for many years to come and there is no guarantee that wages will decrease. and that doesn't even include transfer fees, only wages. so spending tens of billions on the hope that the league gets popular enough to encourage players to go there for normal wages seems quite a gamble. it is also hard to convince a player to sign a 5m per year contract if there are still players on the team who make 5 times of that without being better players. lots of big egos in football
👻 WOOOOOO WE R COMING 😂
good video Bro.
america can offer them all like 10b dollars total and it wont even make a difference in their net worth
theyd even offer the Ball brother that never made the cut a contract

Lamelo going to have his own ghutra to go along with his shoe
@@NR-fd9wv You seem to have misunderstood, this is what is said, "Unlike in the United States, in Europe and Asia, we rarely have sport specific teams"
Also, "on average Basketball players make more" does not mean that it is more expensive to manage them.

All it takes is 1 or 2 big names for the snowball (sand all in this case lol)to start rolling…
I would love to see this happen!

Nope… because NFL is not popular overseas…. Basketball is popular overseas…
@@robertotampioc7318yeah they wouldn’t profit from it on the same level as they would profit from basketball or soccer or baseball

Good point, idk if an American audience will care to watch a league thats time zones away. Without nba type views, whats the return?

NBA tv ratings have dropped and viewership has been declining ever since.
Unbelievable video and spot on.
Other than Embiid is from Africa and not Europe, this is the video everyone should be watching.
Nah I think players like Harrison Barnes and Jeremy Grant will be the first to get poached, along with Harden cuz it's Harden 😂
Those players are great role players with ability to avg 20 given the opportunity, but are underpaid under the new CBA. if Saudi offers NBA max contract to them I don't think they will reject.

They are already in the Premier League, owning a couple of the clubs.
Americans owns the Premier League
Let's do it! Better and improved competitions, more money for the players, variances in style of play. NBA was losing its place already. Now we can watch the NBA champion go against the best teams worldwide in an actually competitive game. What is the drawback to basketball fans?
It’s not improved competitions when one team is paying a player 200 million and other teams can’t afford to pay their players that much, it creates unbalance and would make worse games
