Yong Yea isn’t even Japanese. I believe he mentioned he’s Korean but born in Venezuela. So much for authentic casting lol. Authentic casting is so dumb.
It’s just a symptom of lazy idiots who won’t actually pool their resources and voices towards issues that actually matter, like residuals, far better unionization for voice actors to get better working conditions. Ones that actually impact voice actors than someone pretending to be someone else like actors have done since the beginning of time. Also? He played an Italian man on Stone Ocean. To drive home the absurdity, the anime industry would be entirely cratered if they relied on the minuscule Americans of Japanese descent population to voice the characters. I honestly doubt there’s a supply of fluently English speaking actors with that background to satisfactorily fill in all those roles. Though it’d be hilarious to watch the casting pool become as narrow as it was during the 60s like how Speed Racer and Astro Boy both had three to five actors doing all the roles. It’s even more ludicrous on Bob’s Burgers, where most of the main female roles in the Belcher family are voiced by men, yet they booted off the previous voice actor for one of the trans characters for “authenticity”. Why not boot off all the adults voicing children and adults voicing the wrong gender? Or the whole Apu controversy, in a show where everyone is stereotyped negatively (but I guess Groundskeeper Willie is fine?), Janet Varney stepping down as Korra in future appearances, Cleveland’s VA leaving (so a black man can do an impersonation of a white man doing a black man’s voice) and Phil LaMarr (who hypocritically flipflopped from not caring to advocating for authenticity after playing Jack, the titular Japanese man in Samurai Jack.)
Let's not be hyperbolic and apply one bad example to apply across the board. This was just a fumble by the casting team. I always use the original voice and use subtitles, so I can’t compare it to any English dub of other games or shows, but he did not do a good job. How they allowed that in the English version… idk but they either should have had him redo it or get someone else. There are phenomenal voice actors that are regularly used in English, like in Baldurs Gate 3, that cast is amazing. Dude just sucks or was way off his game.
While I haven’t played the game I didn’t think his voice acting was that bad withstanding the singing but the outrage is very funny. His voice doesn’t fit the character and someone else should have been casted. But since the English VAs was to sacrifice themselves on DEI I hope the industry burns and a new industry will take its place.
oh the irony, he criticized Chris Prat on his voice acting as Mario, an Italian Plumber and now he is facing same criticism for his voice acting as Kiryu, a 60(?) year old Japanese man.
I still really like his vids as background audio but just a quick run back since this may be relevant right now; what were his views on the Bayonetta V.A. being swapped for the 3rd game?
Yong has done some decent VO work in anime and in mods, but this casting was horrendus, he's like a whole octave above what he should be, and just sounds like he's trying to "act" tough the whole time. Yong has a pretty small VO range, and Kiryu was NOT anywhere near his range.

I've been saying this for years, yongyea does not have any opinions of his own when it comes to video games he's always constantly throwing around buzzwords to describe and hype things up, every thing he says is literally what someone has said in a comment or a through an article almost verbatim every time. I was with you til the Japanese voice acting authentic segregation comment nonsense.. Dude isnt Japanese. He's Korean and sega being a japanese company would know the difference.
i dont see how he ruined baka mitai for an example, he sings well enough, his voice is just nothing like Kiryu and he shouldn't have been casted, his voice acting is fine, he just sounds very different. I believe he had a role in Kaito Files and it was fine
Not sure why anyone's surprised, he's always been 2 faced from his "give me money to stay independent from youtube" to "give me money while I cash my youtube money", I mean if you still watched fat head after that it's your own fault.

Y'all are talking about him in Yakuza. He was terrible as a VA in JoJos Bizarre adventure. I watched his content, but I didn't know he VA that role, and I could immediately tell. But it wasn't a good realization. It was a bad realization 😂

I dropped his channel after the interview with the guy from Kotaku back then, Jason something. Dont even remember why, but all I remember that it was extremely lame.
Nobody can compare with Japanese Kiryu, not the French, Chinese, English etc. Takaya is completely amazing at what he does, by far my top voice actors.
It’s funny how he criticizes Chris Pratt then his acting wasn’t better in his dub this like when SPAX3 complain about Jason Griffith voice of Sonic was bad than he does his voice and it was worse!!!!

To be fair, I think if they casted Troy Baker for the role most people would play the game in the original JP dub.
True but in new game plus i play in english
I'd rather hear AI or Darryl Kurylo again than Yong Yea honestly.
Someone ran original JP VA's voice through AI and forced him to speak english (there's a short on YT somewhere), and it still sounded better than Yawn. It would be sad if it wasn't funny.
It took me all these years to finally realize that THIS DUDE is Kiryu's English voice. I'm speechless.
YawnYea
Another reason to play the Yakuza games only in Japanese
Please pay for my therapy.
The dub you forced me to hear is starting to give me PTSD.
I'm sorry 😞
I still really like his vids as background audio but just a quick run back since this may be relevant right now; what were his views on the Bayonetta V.A. being swapped for the 3rd game?
If he had drank his extra bottle soy this wouldn't have happened
I played Yakuza Like a Dragon (LAD 8) in English and thought it was fine. I love Ichiban's voice
Used to like him but hes got waaay to big for his boots. Massive Ego problem.
Yong has done some decent VO work in anime and in mods, but this casting was horrendus, he's like a whole octave above what he should be, and just sounds like he's trying to "act" tough the whole time. Yong has a pretty small VO range, and Kiryu was NOT anywhere near his range.
He is fine as a voice actor..Just not as Kiryu,he doesn't fit the role he went for,and the acting director, and people who hired him should not be doing that as the job
Yong is heading back to spamming videos about microtransactions.
Fricken Nanba's english voice actor sang Baka Mitai extremely better than yongyea did!
I'm already weary over persona 3 remake. Sucks because I was pretty hyped. At least I can always go back to FES on my ps2 if anything
Casting agent lost a pinky after hiring Yong
I feel at this point, you can only either be an actor or a reviewer only. No in-between anymore.
I've been saying this for years, yongyea does not have any opinions of his own when it comes to video games he's always constantly throwing around buzzwords to describe and hype things up, every thing he says is literally what someone has said in a comment or a through an article almost verbatim every time. If he disagrees with something it's because everyone else has disagreed with it already.
He is a news UA-camr
oh my god, why did the dub quality drop? 7 has a decent dub, i actually like ichibans english va
I was with you til the Japanese voice acting authentic segregation comment nonsense.. Dude isnt Japanese. He's Korean and sega being a japanese company would know the difference.
"Guys... I'm happy to say... Cyberpunk lives up to the hype! 🤓"
i dont see how he ruined baka mitai for an example, he sings well enough, his voice is just nothing like Kiryu and he shouldn't have been casted, his voice acting is fine, he just sounds very different. I believe he had a role in Kaito Files and it was fine
Not sure why anyone's surprised, he's always been 2 faced from his "give me money to stay independent from youtube" to "give me money while I cash my youtube money", I mean if you still watched fat head after that it's your own fault.
Am I the only one seeing the irony of the Baka Mitai face meme being made hilarious by the AI filter overlay, now being juxtaposed by AI being a better voice actor than WrongYea?
Damn tragedy. Looks like I'll need to update my blacklist for actors again.
LITERALLY SPONSORED BY SOY LLOOLOLOLOLOA
maybe i don't know the appreciation for the characters , but yong's voice acting doesn't seem terrible , it's certainly not good , but not so awful to be meme worthy in of itself , too bad for him that he said other things that did made it meme worthy....
and yeah the ai voice does sound better for the character
I hope we can one day get to the point where we can have selective dubbing. My man Ichiban is perfect in English. Nanba, Adachi, Tomi, almost everyone is great. But let's just have a mod where Kiryu is in Japanese.
When you need your voice to sound deep and need people to view you as masculine, maybe it is best to not drink soy milk.
Y'all are talking about him in Yakuza. He was terrible as a VA in JoJos Bizarre adventure. I watched his content, but I didn't know he VA that role, and I could immediately tell. But it wasn't a good realization. It was a bad realization 😂
He's also been muting people on his channel for YEARS. I checked out before he started any of this VA stuff because his videos were 5 minutes of info and 15 minutes of padding.
You'll be hearing from yea's lawyer.
Because you're breaking some law
Breaking his world lol
I stopped watching Yongs pretentiousness years ago.
His monotone selective anger is pathetic
I dropped his channel after the interview with the guy from Kotaku back then, Jason something.
Dont even remember why, but all I remember that it was extremely lame.
Jason Schrier also blocks a lot of people on twitter, including me
Who?
10 years in joint
When will Manic get sponsored by soylent?
At the arrt waalllss, thaaaannkkss
His greatest crime was promoting soylent. Absolutely godless
But at least he did earn that role. Right? RIGHT? RIGHT?!
Nobody can compare with Japanese Kiryu, not the French, Chinese, English etc. Takaya is completely amazing at what he does, by far my top voice actors.
That's that soy, boy!
japanese original is far superior than any dub
Do you think the dub of LaD: Gaiden got postponed was because they're teaching YongYea how to sing?
Thats crazy if he took a Soylent sponsorship
I am glad i go subtitles only for japanese orginated games and anime.
This guy is Yong Yea's Aldrich Killian
Errr...What did he do? A bit of an enflamed ego from him 😂😂😂
good casting this guy had was Larry in Pokémon Masters EX. That’s it, that’s the whole list.
TENDERNESS
It’s funny how he criticizes Chris Pratt then his acting wasn’t better in his dub this like when SPAX3 complain about Jason Griffith voice of Sonic was bad than he does his voice and it was worse!!!!
The thing that gets me pissed is the fact that he was shit talking about movie Mario's voice, which is totally fine, but if you slightly criticize YongYea, he blocks you
Wait, so they got a youtuber to do the actual English voice acting? I thought the previous English dub was actually pretty good.
Techinically he is an actual voice actor, has done profesional roles prior, some were decent, but frankly Yong is a crappy person and creator who should not be hired in most of these roles.
Profesional actors and UA-camrs can apply to the same person.
ProZD, Aleks Lee Gianni Matragrano, all do such perfectly.
The issue is Yong isn't notably skilled and is immensely questionable as a UA-camr and person.
@@_-Lx-_ what has he done that is bad?

A "journalist" without interity who Stanned Cyberpunk 2077's console Launch and ETC and often does very little research and just blandly rants and parrots about what he's heard some random people say
Unprofessional abrasive behaviour online worsening backlash
Low quality content, and his actual acting roles being a mixed bag with some fairly decent ones and some ones where he phones it in and gives a bad preformance.
Apparently he supported burning down buildings during riots, I have not seen those posts myself but heard somr here mention that.
Arrogant and unlikable to many he interacts with and often hypocritical with double standards
Very low quality creator frankly.
I don't think many prople who follow him do su due to liking him as a person/creator, I imagine most follow him for what he talks about or etc and aren't aware of the much better places to look to for that.
I'll be honest I think most english voice actors suck when trying to dub foreign games but at least they sound like they're really trying
Damn, I didn't know Yong was set to be in Reload. At least he's a relatively minor character in that and his voice might actually be more suited for a teenage goon than a fifty year old ex-Yakuza.
Also, I must be going loopy, but that AI Kiryu sounds like a British Joe Swanson and it has me rolling.
AI sounded great!
I didn’t know Yakuza fans were this unhinged. But considering the insanity of the games… Takes one to know one, I guess.
