How to mix gas and oil for 2 stroke engines

- If you've never owned a small 2-stroke (2-cycle) gas trimmer like an @echousa SRM-225, it can feel intimidating knowing the basics of what's needed to fill it up with fuel. In this video, I demonstrate the simple act of mixing a bottle of Echo Power Blend Gold oil with a gallon of gasoline to fill the fuel tank on my Echo SRM-225 gas string trimmer.

Been trying to find a video that explains this ratio issue..you ate the best...😊
I'm happy you found this helpful and I appreciate you watching and taking time to leave your nice feedback! 🙏 Best of luck to you on your channel 👍
Thanks a million...... New to 2 stroke engines and have/had no idea what I'm doing or where to start..... ....
I truly appreciate hearing that as it makes posting my video worthwhile as I'd hoped it would do just that...help someone! Thanks for watching and taking your valuable time to stop back and leave your nice comment! 🙏Best of luck to you and let us know how things go with your 2-stroke small engine!
My Stihl FS 90 states it's a 4 stroke, sounds a little different from a run of the mill 2 stroke, dealer where I bought it from drilled it into my head to use mixed oil like reg 2 strokes, he has had several homeowners burn their trimmers up by using just gas and no oil.
That's really interesting to hear! I'm curious how the your Stihl FS90 user manual states the topic of fuel. Thanks for watching and sharing your experience with your Stihl 4-stroke. 👍
Great video, what fuel. We bought ethical free 87 octane 😊
Thanks for watching! 👍
I just bought the same echo trimmer should I be using ethanol free gas or does it matter? Thanks!
@@neonpaintsplash Ideally, ethanol-free is likely best BUT, I'd highly doubt "professional landscapers" spend any extra money on their fuel usage and I've always just used pump-gas and mixed in the 2-stroke oil. I'd say you just have to go with your own judgement and budget to decide. For as little as these gas trimmers seem to use depending on size of your yard, beds and edging it may not cost too much buying the pre-mixed "good stuff" at the home improvement and yard machine retailers...I've been tempted but still just go with pump-gas myself. Good luck and let us know what you decide to do! Thanks for watching! 👍
Hi 👋 good evening I have a question I have the same Weed whacker that I just got the oil mix is it synthetic or universal
Either works just as well, same with alcohol free or regular gas
Can this mixture be used on large lawn mowers? Because I can't use it up every time.
Personally, I wouldn't use the mixture in my 4-stroke engine push lawn mower or my lawn tractor. However, I did see a comment where someone shared it wouldn't hurt using this two-stroke oil-fuel mixture in a four-stroke engine. I suppose if you were to dilute it with more fuel to reduce the oil-fuel mixture might help. I would think you may experience a bit of "smoking" out of the exhaust as the oil in the fuel combusts and is exhausted. I've added "dry-gas" to my "extra" and it seems to still be good the next season. Good luck and let us know what you decide to do.
@@WorksIRL Other videos say it can be added to cars
Love your video I was wondering if you could help me with something I have a 2 gallon gas container I'd like to know how many to put in one or two thank you so much and looking for more videos and you have a great day.
First, thanks for watching and sharing your nice remarks and feedback.🙏 Regarding your 2-gallon fuel tank, I'd use two bottles in the 2-gallon container of fuel to get the 50:1 mix ratio assuming you're using the same Echo string trimmer model. If you have a different brand and/or model, be sure to follow the manufacturer's user manual recommendations for fuel mixture ratio. Thanks again for watching and joining the comments area. Keep us posted how things are going with your lawn equipment. 👍
I am so sorry but I don't want to mess up anything but can you tell me exactly how many to use in a 2 gallon container 1 or two please thank you so much and looking forward to more of your videos and you have a great day 👍👍👍
@@WorksIRL 👍👍👍👍👍 Thank you so much I don't know if I messed up anything but when I first got it I put one in not the kind you are using to two gallons but when it starts it will run but cut off I'll start it again and it keeps cutting off can you tell me please if I did damage to the machine thank you so much and have a great day 👍👍👍👍👍
@@jimmieduncan5671 To cause damage to the 2-stroke engine on a string trimmer, I think you'd have to run it awhile using an improper fuel-oil ratio. When you start your trimmer, you need to turn the choke knob/switch "closed" and after it starts and the engine begins to warm up, you "open" the choke. If you leave the choke closed, the engine can stall out and not start. The other issue may be water in your fuel. Gasoline can "go bad" in as little as 30 days just sitting in a fuel container and even sooner if the fuel container doesn't have a good seal or air-tight cap. Combine that with humid Summer air and condensation in the fuel container on cooler nights and a fair amount of water can contaminate the fuel in the fuel container. If you suspect the wrong fuel-oil mixture and/or bad fuel in the string trimmer, you could carefully pour the fuel out of the trimmer's fuel tank then get some fresh fuel to make the proper fuel-oil mixture. For a 2-gallon container, use two bottles of 2-stoke oil made to treat 1-gallon of fuel. Even with the fresh fuel-oil mixture, the trimmer may sputter as it tries to clear out the "bad" fuel in the line but if you have the choke closed and it starts to run, open the choke (turn it off) and hopefully it'll keep running. Good luck and let us know how it goes!
@@WorksIRL thank you so much that helped me a lot and thank you for your show it helps out a lot of people who don't know like me much success and looking forward to more of your awesome videos you are definitely the man 👍👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 thank you so much!!!!
Do I have to use the echo brand or does it not matter ?
No, any 2-stroke oil is likely going to work just fine! I'm sure the Echo Brand is high-quality but I'd hazard to guess most 2-stroke oil additives will suffice. Thanks for watching.
Hi 👋 good evening I have a question I have the same Weed wacker I just got it for the oil mix dose oil mix has to be synthetic or universal
That's an excellent question! ECHO's website (echo-usa.com) states their ECHO Power Blend Gold 2-Stroke Oil is a "semi-synthetic" and they recommend mixing it with 89 octane unleaded fuel. The AMSOIL Saber 2-Stroke Oil is 100% synthetic. I hope that answers your question. Thanks for watching and good luck!
So No Motor oil in these things?? Just gas mixture?
No, the "old" 2-stroke internal combustion engine technology has no separate, dedicated motor oil lubrication system found in 4-stroke internal combustion engines. Decades ago, ALL small engines on equipment like string trimmers, lawn mowers and marine outboard motors all used simpler, smaller 2-stroke engines requiring oil mixed to the proper ratio with the fuel to provide adequate piston lubrication. However, these also exhaust more air pollution because of that oil-fuel mixture in the combustion process. Nowadays, even string trimmers and mowers have moved to using 4-stroke engines which have separate motor oil lubrication systems and no longer require oil-fuel mixtures. You have to pay attention to the model details to understand whether they've got 2-stroke or 4-stroke engines.

Thank you for watching 🙏

@@WorksIRL can you mix it with any gasoline
Ultimately, the manufacturer's manual should be the correct source of an answer which I think recommends 89-octane unleaded fuel with no more than 10% ethanol. I likely have used 87-octane unleaded to mix with the 2-cycle oil because I likely forgot to use 89-octane unleaded but I've not experienced any operational issues. I suspect ideally, 89-octane is best and making sure no more than 10% ethanol is important to mix with the 2-cycle oil. Thanks for watching!
@@WorksIRL mine is in Spanish that's why I'm asking you
Just read your manual. It will tell you the mix ratio.
