In Northwest Ohio, we are part of the Lake Erie watershed and to decrease algae bloom, regulations on manure handling were instituted a few years ago. Our farmers are not allowed to spread manure on frozen ground, can't spread if a rain is predicted and the manure must be worked into the ground after application. The net result is that our livestock operations have to build larger storage facilities. Some of our smaller dairies can't afford this and have chosen to give up the milk cows.
You and Grant represent the farming community very well. You make a great team, husband and wife! Interesting way of life, always problem solving daily. And you're having a fun time doing it.
World Ag Expo in Tulare California is amazing! I worked it a few years when I lived in the Central Valley. It would also give you a break from the snow in February!
Growing up in suburban NY we would purchase bags if cow manure for large vegetable garden. We would also take a large wheel barrel to near by horse farm and get all the horse manure we could load. Using rototiller it made for great crops.
Poop spreaders have not changed in nearly 150 years. There was a John Deere B my brother-in-law owned,, and he used horse drawn equipment behind it. The manure spreader operated exactly the same as in your video. No PTO shaft, the power was taken from the rolling lugged iron rear wheels,,,, which moved the slats under the load, and then a flinger off the back. I am the guy that replaced the busted and old oak slats that made up the drag under the load and the paddles that flung the poop. And yes,,,, I got it in my hair. The John Deere B did not have autosteer. Or a starter.
You are so special….always teaching, never skipping a step, constantly keeping us informed…..thank you for such exceptional content in all your videos. Love ❤️ you, Grammy
Laura is Super Special and an excellent teacher because she explains so well to us uninitiated everything that she does! I really feel like I’ve learned a lot about farming from Laura! She’s a beautiful, smart granddaughter who has endeared herself to a fast growing social media “family”, over 416k at this point. Everyday she posts a video and shares another day in her amazing young life is a Day of Sunshine!! Laura & Grant will be celebrating their second wedding anniversary on Monday. What an amazing two years it has been! I hope they celebrate Big Time and know that we all send our love to them! God Bless!
Feedlot manure is getting expensive in the Texas Panhandle. 3 years ago it was $8 per ton now $13 for under 10 mi haul stockpiled and spread. 14 tons adds 290# N 300 P2O 300 K2O. About 1/2 is available the first Summer each nutrient releases differently. If mixed in top 3" of soil that increases soil organic matter one percentage point average in top 1 million lbs of soil. The manure you were spreading was much fresher and wetter. I like to have it composted so it spreads much better also easier on next crop. My farms have had manure for as much as 60 years. With full irrigation 300 bu corn is possible.
Laure you blew my concentration in this video with the POOP IN THE HAIR comment. Love you and Grant . A very Merry Christmas to you and Grant. Also Merry Christmas to your families
Lots of Arkansas farmers use Chicken Litter for fertilize instead of regular fertilize and/or in addition to regular fertilize to offset the cost. You can tell what farmers use it just by driving past a farm and smelling it.
Love Grants enthusiasm to get a skid steer loader.i've recently demo 2 skid steers. A BobCat and a Caterpillar. Booth were great machines. But the Cat took it for me. The hydraulics were that much more smother then the BobCat. But no matter which one you decide on. Get the track system. Also which ever machine you think you need go to the next bigger one.
Back in the day I was involved in removing and old pit and putting a new one. This was on a huge indoor pig operation. My job was to get down into the pit with a chainsaw and remove the old timber that was used when it was first built. Did I mention the pit was NOT empty. I was standing in about 3 feet of sludge. It really didn't smell much anymore but as I mentioned I was using a chainsaw....yeah
LOL I should have watched longer I must add this! I was told One Time by a very wise old farmer this quote: the manure spreader the only piece of equipment that the dealer will not stand behind!
That lever is the command pro joystick for the IVT transmission. It can do basically everything the fendt vario can do and one or two things the fandt can't.
G'day from West Oz & it's a glorious sunny Sunday morning here. Record totals for Canola, Wheat & Barley expected after the best, ( & the best timed ) rains for the dozen years I've been here. Once again Laura & Grant you have put a big 😁 on my face with your friendly, informative videos. Well I've gotta go fix a leaky house pipe, now where the heck did I put that thread tape??? 🤔
That's just fertilizer to make your hair grow even more beautiful, lol. Yes it has been a very long time since I was to a farm show in person, you now feed my inquisitiveness. Hope your winter is filled with lots of fun, along with your work.
Laura You Two are a Lot Of Fun!! Love how you two keep things fresh and joke and have fun doing what you do! Keep it up!! Love Your Channel!! Keep Smiling On!! 😀👍👊❤
Growing up in the dairy country of SE Minnesota I've been around manure spreading my entire life. I never thought that spreading manure would get the computer treatment to the point that you can tell the tractor/implement what rate you want to spread at and the equipment dumps out that rate. Cool. Plus you get to use autosteer. The pros are way past the time where we just went out and eyeballed it.
I get it...!! My 1985 Honda 250SX has been sitting for 10 years. Step #1 new tires and order a new CDI box... Wish me luck! I bought it new and now that I'm retired it's time to get it going.
Laura your video's are so great they make spreading manure interesting and i learned things i did not know.Thank you. Hope grant finds a Big Red in mint condition.
Non farmer questions first how does using Manure compare to normal fertilizers per acre ie cost and and actual performance? And with the exploding cost of regular fertilizers do you see more farmers switching back to organic fertilizers
Ah yes, manure. I had the pleasure of helping my relatives spread manure over their fields in Nebraska when I was younger. It was just so much fun especially having to walk through it. The best part, eating lunch next to the pile of cow manure, yummy. My Aunt told me poop is good for the skin Laura so in the hair, not to worry. Laura, I have to say you are a very pragmatic and intellectual person which is a huge compliment, plus you are funny too.
HAHAHA! If you ever tell me of a farmer with cattle that claims she/he/they never got cow poop in his/her/their hair, I would never believe it! Been there, done that. Merry Christmas to you both!
If you are thinking about JCB equipment be sure to check out dealer support and parts availability in your area. I found filters and parts hard to get in some areas. Mostly Northern California.
For getting poop in your hair, you were pretty calm about it. Manure is a great to fertilize with due to the alleged shortages of fertilizer. Plus, what else would the feed lots or dairy farms do with it?
I mean I read the title but when your video started back up after commercial break and you said, "I think I got poop in my hair." Caught me off guard. I never thought after watching your channel for nearly a year that I would hear you say that 🙂
I hope that your presentation went well and hopefully you will post a video or link to video of it. Being up in front of alot of strangers and being the focal point is a freaky thing that alot of us are not really comfortable with, but I am sure you managed it well. I never liked doing demonstrations/speaking when in 4-H as a kid, but you had to do it to complete your projects. I used to do vocal solos back in high school, a few high school plays as well as a few community plays, and @ times would literally get sick to my stomach sometimes before performing and I can only imagine what it would have been like if I hadn't had those 4-H challenges when younger. I was wondering if either you or Grant were involved in 4-H or in FFA? Both are exceptional organizations that I participated in growing up. Love your content and learning alot of stuff about your ways of cropping/farming in Nebraska vs what I grew up with on a wheat/barley farm in Montana, so keep up the good work. I feel for Grant and "3-wheelerless" and bet he is thinking about turning the Geo into one (if still has it?)
He should get a Mercedes Unimog and get is setup as he want :) like a Loader or Excavator, or what not, It can be setup up from train to working the fields. Unimog is a range of multi-purpose tractors, trucks and lorries
So is Grant diggin' the Black hair, as much as we are? Congratulations on being a panelist at Farmer 2 Farmer. Sounds like Grant shouldn't hold his breath waiting. Check out Truck Paper for that Big truck, and trailer he wants.

Happy Anniversary Laura & Grant. I can always remember because 12/19 is also my birthday. Hope you were able to celebrate.
Here in Iowa where I live we are done hauling manure and done with the fields. We have layers of snow in our fields.
I love when Grant smiles at the camera when Laura puts out (accidentally) a statement that certain people could make a crack at (😂)❤

I think you would be a great spokes person for anything farming. I see this in your future. Good job great videos.
It is truly amazing just how much science and technology has become the farming industry.
Fascinating information. I never thought about the rocks and other non poop stuff that's being spreader. Thanks for the education!

The joystick in the 8rx is basically what a fendt the functions are the same. Its called command pro its a fancy option that cost more money 😂
I hope that you and Grant come back to the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville Kentucky! Merry Christmas!
The JCB with the side doors are absolutely amazing. You will never want to run anything with a front door again.
Ahh the smell of life! Takes me back. Laura! At least you didn't swallow a bug!

On frozen ground works!!! But the material may be too frozen when it's too cold.this is very hard on spreader.
8RX models up to the 370 are CVT/IVT, the 410 is powershift....hence the different joystick 👍👍

Good to report on the completion path of the ag cycles. Skid steers are like boots, you gotta try a lot to find those that fit.
