  • The Kwan is one of those classic shrimp patterns. It's great for redfish, bonefish, snook, and many other species that eat shrimp.
This is an extremely versatile fly that can be tied in all kinds of color variations, sizes, and even shapes. Size 2's and 4's are great for redfish, but 6's and even 8's can be great for bonefish. The lighter tans and sand colors are a great color combo, but so are olives and rust. Purple and tan is one of my personal favorite redfish colors.

The use of the hackle pliers to hold the material back is absolute money! Thanks for that tip. Great video!

    Great looking pattern.
With the materials out to the sides will this fly glide or do a 'falling leaf' as it sinks?
I'm out west in San Diego. It's not a big secret, but we do have bone fish in our local bays. I've caught them on bait and soft plastics. They only get to maybe 14 inches. But they'd still be a blast on a fly rod.

It’s a pretty nice little glide since it has lead eyes near the front. It’s hard to get a fly with thin fibers/hair to get the falling leaf glide action

Nice pattern but if you're emulating a shrimp; shrimp have antennae and legs.

Just emulating the old, classic, proven kwan pattern
