Finishing tip: if you want VERY SMOOTH faces on the pyramid, seal up each foam face with an additional layer of Mod Podge on top before you plastidip. Or, if you want the "cast metal" look that I went for here, leave the outer foam unsealed, and the foam will outgas while the plastidip dries up, making a little extra texture. I liked this because it gives it more of a found artifact look. You can also use a little bit of black shoe polish to quickly wipe on and off each face instead of the watered down black paint to pick up all those deep grooves and texture.
Vinny Logozio dude that was amazing. I think it would look a bit better if the pyramid was taller. In the anime when the millennium puzzle is not worn the triangles look equilateral. But when yugi wears it they look isosceles. I guess it depends if you want to have it as a prop or wear it. With isosceles triangles you have a smaller square base and its easier and more elegant to wear it. I'm a detail freak for sure. But once again great build.
Alex Paf I think a taller isosceles would actually look very nice, especially as a jewelry piece. I can imagine that while animating the puzzle in the show, the artists took liberties in drawing it to look however it needed to in the scene to work. Hand drawn props usually change shape throughout a show, but that also makes them really cool. If you make a modified version, I'd love to see it. Cheers man!
That moment when Vinny takes time to respond. Not many dudes do that. Im pretty good with my hands and if i find the time to do it i'll be more than happy to share!
Could you seal it with a resin layer before painting for a really smooth metal look? I've seen that technique used with Iron Man parts--would that work here? I admit to not being uber familiar with the source material. Blasphemous, I know. ;)
Raesling Undomiel You may be able to use resin on the foam. I would try a little test square, and keep an eye on how the resin cures. You may want to zap it once or twice with a heat gun to get rid of the bubbles that will form. I would also keep the resin layer super thin - as thin as you can get away with, so it doesn't build up in the channels or drip down the sides too much. If you do the resin method, you won't need to plastidip, you can go right to painting. I'd love to see what you come up with if you try it.

MILLENNIUM PUZZLE?! OH HELL YEAH!! I'm actually planning on doing a Yugi cosplay over the summer, so this is so handy! I am SO glad I am into Yu-Gi-Oh! and this beautiful series!!
As a guy who has been playing Yugioh for 15 years, I approve. I only have a slight problem with the prop you made Vinny. While your use of black paint in details was nice, the edges should have been solid to make things like triangles at the bottom of each side into a solid piece. I'd recommend some kind of putty to fill the "cracks" in the edges and then just paint it like you did.
If you're not sure what I mean, compare the edges of the prop to the edges of the picture he had on the laptop. The prop has the low points on the edges, where as the actual Puzzle has sharp edges.
When I first started the video, I was a bit disappointed seeing it was just another craft foam prop using the same techniques as the others. But I was happy to see you guys showing why you decided to do certain things and the pros and cons of other methods! Looking forward to more videos like this.
Miguelangel Ramirez I clicked when I saw the thumbnail and Vinny's name. I squeeled when I saw it. I will make it for a convention I'll have in two months.
I'm totally using this for my Atem. Thank you so much. It also gives me an idea of what to do for his earings and crown~ Thank you so much for posting this.
I was hoping for a real puzzle, with all the separate pieces. That being said, the end result looks great, a lot better than I expected! Also great to have Vinny make another project, love that guy
the timing for this video couldnt have been more perfect, Ive been designing and working on a millennium puzzle for my girl friend's lil brother that will hold yugioh cards, and this gave me a few ideas
initially i was going to make it out of wood but that was gonna be a gruesome process trying to figure out how i was gonna cut it or hollow it out, real headache hahah
I swear, if he tells me to go and cut those edges nice and clean while looking at me like that, I will go and cut those edges. I can't do it not nice and not clean. I will obey that hazelnut look.
Nice project. It was a good reminder for me . I have one that I build with my dad when I was a child. But it is just a wood base of the pyramid because I never figured out how to do the details. Now that I know more materials I want to finish it. I guess I will use glued on prebaked polymer clay plates in my case. Greetings from Germany. I am excited to see what you will make next time^^
One of the Outcast honestly I was into both as a kid but sided with Pokemon cause the video games were more accessible. Now yugioh is my current favorite just because of the massive amount of content and the ammount of thinking required to play. Its a great palate cleanser from Pokemon I've noticed cause I came across a dragonite and snorlax picture and i felt like i was seeing them for the first time again. Theyre both great and im just happy to have them both
i followed the steps of making the Puzzle now every time that someone asks if i want to play a game with them i shout "YU GI OH!!!" and the rest of the game i make my voice deeper and say "It's time to D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-Duel!"
I'm shocked, never thought the designs I can up with for fun would actually come in handy 😅 I'm glad they have though, and this prop looks awesome Vinny! Good job man!
i used a bike lock for the half ring. a few layers of corrugated cardboard as a spacer inside the lid. i liked it because it adds a little weight and makes it feel more solid
Make a Steven Universe shield!! You should use clear resin or lexan or something to make it transparent and maybe put a tap light in the center to make it glow!!
Made one of these when I was younger out of wood. Think I've still got it in my loft somewhere. Also made a duel disk out of wood as well 😏 really liked it 😂

Just buy the ones that Mattel made, they're more than accurate enough.

Elvis Susanto yugi: where's your deck?
Cell: what d-d-d-d-ddd deck?
Elvis Susanto it now makes sense, Yugioh/the pharoh has a stutter.
yugi moto literally translates as time to play
for one, no it doesn't, and it's Muto
So, ultimately, you ended up putting everything together like it was an actual millennium puzzle lol. Nice
I know right
After months commenting for you guys to do this you finally did it! looks great btw.
We heard you loud and clear. Glad you enjoyed!
Vinny Logozio I enjoyed it very much, thank you!

I really liked it that you explained all of your Options and why you choose this one in particular :D
Maybe you can make the entire Yugi Oh millennium items to compete the collection. :)
The Ring, the Necklace, the Eye, The Rod, The Key and the Scale
only if the rod includes the secret dagger.
And if the key can fit in peoples forehead.
and if the eye becomes competition legal
I think the most important property has to be: all of those must be able to send your opponent to the Shadow Realm

I clicked so fast when I saw the yugioh thumbnail
Me too
I clicked so fast when I saw Vinny's name - What's the tutorial about?
Miguelangel Ramirez I clicked when I saw the thumbnail and Vinny's name. I squeeled when I saw it. I will make it for a convention I'll have in two months.

I hoping LittleKurriboh build one for his own unless he already owns one!
Hi again, Odin reminded us of that video 'cause he made one as well 🤣
Duel disk next k thx. (By Vinnie, not any other prop people. Except Bill Doran or Evil Ted, that would be cool)
Kenway I agree.
Wow! this is one of my fav episodes of DIY prop shop. gj vinny!
1. in the name of the pharoh that looks amazing
2. could you try the chaos emeralds from sonic
Wouldn't the Chaos Emeralds just require making a mold and some colored resin?
Vinnie is by far the best diy prop shop person.. Good job!
I want to buy this it looks so cool
Harry Davies you have a nice name
FINALLY! They've finally made a prop from Yu-Gi-Oh. More please!

♥, @Vinny! Another great tutorial. TYVM!
"Look, sometimes you get possessed by a Pharaoh, and sometimes you don't." Is that an Italian proverb, Vin?
I was hoping for a real puzzle, with all the separate pieces. That being said, the end result looks great, a lot better than I expected!
Also great to have Vinny make another project, love that guy
After watching you make this puzzling prop😉 would love to see your take on the hellraiser puzzle box. Nice build vinny👊🏻✋🏻😎
regardless of how you actually feel about the prop, that's a legitimately gorgeous piece of art right there.
hello early people.Anybody else noticed the weird audio?
Sigma MOS I have
Sigma MOS Yes. My volume and the system volume on my phone is all the up. The audio is still very low.
Yup. Thought the settings on my headset sound control block were off.
Sigma MOS they obviously lost the audio recording, so only the audio from the camera is present
it also sounds like Vinny is sitting right behind me talking...
the timing for this video couldnt have been more perfect, Ive been designing and working on a millennium puzzle for my girl friend's lil brother that will hold yugioh cards, and this gave me a few ideas
I'd love to see that when you're done, sounds like a nice project
initially i was going to make it out of wood but that was gonna be a gruesome process trying to figure out how i was gonna cut it or hollow it out, real headache hahah
do you have any measurements on the pyramid?
Now I can go around and tell everyone what Pot of Greed does.
This turned out great.
