    Finishing tip: if you want VERY SMOOTH faces on the pyramid, seal up each foam face with an additional layer of Mod Podge on top before you plastidip. Or, if you want the "cast metal" look that I went for here, leave the outer foam unsealed, and the foam will outgas while the plastidip dries up, making a little extra texture. I liked this because it gives it more of a found artifact look.
    You can also use a little bit of black shoe polish to quickly wipe on and off each face instead of the watered down black paint to pick up all those deep grooves and texture.

      Vinny Logozio dude that was amazing. I think it would look a bit better if the pyramid was taller. In the anime when the millennium puzzle is not worn the triangles look equilateral. But when yugi wears it they look isosceles. I guess it depends if you want to have it as a prop or wear it. With isosceles triangles you have a smaller square base and its easier and more elegant to wear it. I'm a detail freak for sure. But once again great build.

    • @vinnylogozio7599
      @vinnylogozio7599 7 років тому +3

      Alex Paf I think a taller isosceles would actually look very nice, especially as a jewelry piece. I can imagine that while animating the puzzle in the show, the artists took liberties in drawing it to look however it needed to in the scene to work. Hand drawn props usually change shape throughout a show, but that also makes them really cool. If you make a modified version, I'd love to see it. Cheers man!

      That moment when Vinny takes time to respond. Not many dudes do that. Im pretty good with my hands and if i find the time to do it i'll be more than happy to share!

      Could you seal it with a resin layer before painting for a really smooth metal look? I've seen that technique used with Iron Man parts--would that work here? I admit to not being uber familiar with the source material. Blasphemous, I know. ;)

    • @vinnylogozio7599
      @vinnylogozio7599 7 років тому +4

      Raesling Undomiel You may be able to use resin on the foam. I would try a little test square, and keep an eye on how the resin cures. You may want to zap it once or twice with a heat gun to get rid of the bubbles that will form. I would also keep the resin layer super thin - as thin as you can get away with, so it doesn't build up in the channels or drip down the sides too much. If you do the resin method, you won't need to plastidip, you can go right to painting. I'd love to see what you come up with if you try it.

    As a guy who has been playing Yugioh for 15 years, I approve. I only have a slight problem with the prop you made Vinny. While your use of black paint in details was nice, the edges should have been solid to make things like triangles at the bottom of each side into a solid piece. I'd recommend some kind of putty to fill the "cracks" in the edges and then just paint it like you did.

    • @AgnikoFireking
      @AgnikoFireking 7 років тому +4

      If you're not sure what I mean, compare the edges of the prop to the edges of the picture he had on the laptop. The prop has the low points on the edges, where as the actual Puzzle has sharp edges.

    I have one that I build with my dad when I was a child. But it is just a wood base of the pyramid because I never figured out how to do the details. Now that I know more materials I want to finish it. I guess I will use glued on prebaked polymer clay plates in my case.

      One of the Outcast honestly I was into both as a kid but sided with Pokemon cause the video games were more accessible. Now yugioh is my current favorite just because of the massive amount of content and the ammount of thinking required to play. Its a great palate cleanser from Pokemon I've noticed cause I came across a dragonite and snorlax picture and i felt like i was seeing them for the first time again. Theyre both great and im just happy to have them both

    Make a Steven Universe shield!! You should use clear resin or lexan or something to make it transparent and maybe put a tap light in the center to make it glow!!

    As someone who's been a fan of Yugioh since it first came out in America ('02?), I love this. Do you think you could try making the other Millennium Items? And do you think you could try making Revan's mask and Malak's lower jaw mask from Star Wars KOTOR?

      Like the Millennium Rod's staff being a length of pipe and spherical part being from a metal trailer hitch ball?
      The Millennium Eye's spherical design could also be from a metal trailer hitch ball (or a super-ball).
      Or the conical pieces on the Millennium Ring being conical-shaped pieces of either craft foam or EVA floor mat, painted a gold colour and mounted with golden-coloured eye-hooks and fishing wire? The hoop parts of the Ring could either be from parts of PEX tubing painted gold or from a rim of the metal basketball hoop and painted gold.
