    Two of the greatest ever on their respective instruments. I have visited with Terry Gibbs on a number of occasions and his playing is an exact expression of his personality.

    I had the great good fortune of meeting Terry Gibbs a number of times. If you ever want to meet someone whose playing was an accuratee reflection of his personality. In addition to his up tempo personality he was as chacious and friendly as anyine could be.

    Wonderful performance by two of my very favorite players. Terry always brings incredible energy to any band, Buddy is a wonderful clarinetist. His all-star big band, playing only in LA clubs, was one of the greatest that probably never toured. He had charts from all the greatest arrangers, and made them sound better than any other band that played them.

    The vibes (also marimba) were used a lot on records and in tv performances during the 1960s into the early-1970s but after that they seemed to have lost popularity. I used to enjoy listening and watching anytime the vibes were featured back in the day.

    What can you say if you love jazz and big band music? Buddy and Terry are national treasures that continued to spread the sounds of jazz in the '80s. Buddy passed away recently but Terry, 91, is still playing fast and strong. Check him out on UA-cam from January 2016 from his home. Great sounds!

    @Chris Milyo. Good observation. They ended up, on the first number, with a true polyphonic chorus - like Dixieland.

    Madness !!! Terry and Buddy are soloing against each other making oodles of noodles noise. Obviously the network wouldn't give them time to solo individually, but they could have cleaned it up by trading choruses.

    Is it just the angle or are those really short mallets??

    • @Baribrotzer
      @Baribrotzer 7 років тому +1

      I think they are. They look short even when the camera angle changes. Wonder what the advantage is? Fewer wrong notes, opposed by more effort in moving your arms around and hitting hard enough to cut through?

    • @sbullar
      @sbullar 7 років тому +1

      Terry it seemed always used the short mallets and i never saw him play with two mallets in each hand like several vibe players.
