- Beverly is an American living in Mexico since 2019. She was a teacher in the US prior to the pandemic but moved to Mexico to teach English as a Foreign Language while being able to cut her living expenses in half.
In this video, Brighton West interviews Beverly about her experience living and working in Mexico as a "pretiree." Beverley had a TEFL certificate and teaches English to students around the world from her apartment in downtown La Paz.
Beverley also has a UA-cam channel (Miles and Coffee) where she documents her time in La Paz. You can watch it at / milesandcoffee .

Thank you so much Brighton! I enjoyed meeting you in person at Lola's! You are a great interviewer! "Two thumbs up!" 👍🏾👍🏾
You too. I just watched your video. And thanks for introducing me to Lolas!
@@AlmostRetiredinMexico I'm so glad! 👍🏾
Hi Beverly! I really enjoyed this interview! Can you please share the TEFL program that you went through please? I am currently a substitute teacher here in Texas and I'm working on my retirement escape to Mexico!
Hello, let me tell you something
I have just had my breakfast watching this video, so I had my breakfast with you two. I’m from La Paz and English student and you UA-cam channel has been helpful for me to improve my hear skills and pronunciation. Thanks.
Juan - that's great! I enjoyed your breakfast together ;-) Glad that I can help with your English learning. I usually speak really fast, so if you can understand me, you're doing really well!
This is fabulous! I follow both of your utube channels Beverly gives me hope that as a single mature (polite for older lol) I can relocate to Mexico. I'm originally from Quebec so Croque Madame brings back delicious food memories. Keep the videos coming guys!
@Gigi Loki thanks for listening and for showing love on @Almost Retired in Mexico!
@Gigi - thanks for commenting. I was thinking there would be people who follow both of us who would see this video. So fun. BTW, the staff pronounced it "croc-kay" - two syllables. Like Croquet.
I relocated to Querétaro at 79. Age is just a. Number
Old fashion grits.cheese eggs,and turkey 🦃 bacon.
Lovely lady, well spoken, and knows how to explain everything very well.
Yes - clearly 20 years as a teacher was a good thing.
Wonderful interview ! Thank you for your candor, Bev. Love you, my friend!! Keep motivating and inspiring!!💕🙏🏽
Thanks! Bev is even better in person than she appears online ;-)
I'm so excited to see someone who looks like me! I wonder which cities are best for brown people. I don't mind being one of a few but would like to be smiled at, not stared at ☺️
I've been thinking about doing an episode about being Black in Mexico. Are you following the Yarbros or MexitPlans? They might have some good perspectives. I know the Yarbros have traveled to a lot of cities around Mexico.
@@AlmostRetiredinMexico Oh right, I watched some of their videos in the past; I'll look them up again. Thanks!
Thanks for the great video! First step moving anywhere is a visit. See how you like it! I will be in La Paz in a few short weeks to do just that. If I like it I'll have a slip rented for my liveaboard boat before leaving to go back to the states. What am I after??? A warm climate and laid back atmosphere. I actually like the saying "Manyana". Not today, maybe tomorrow, ten again maybe not tomorrow either. That sounds like this old sea farer's speed.
Mañana is definitely alive in La Paz. My contractor says that every day. Yesterday he said muy temprano en la mañana. He showed up at 11:57am. Enjoy your stay!
Great interview and collaboration. Look forward in seeing more of your videos!
Thanks! And I look forward to watching some of yours too!
Great lady. Makes it plain. As a former Spanish teacher I am curious about getting involved. What is the best way to find out more information?
You'd be perfect for teaching English to native Spanish speakers. Connect with Beverly on her channel here: www.UA-cam.com/c/milesandcoffee.
Thank you so much for the video! I am 54 and am needing to head south in the winter due to arthritis. I have been working to finish my TEFL certificate. La Paz fits the bill! Cheers!
You are so welcome! Best of luck with your journey south.
This is awesome. I have a home school(my children as well). I teach Pre K. I am currently teaching one of my coworkers English, she's from Egypt. I feel like this was a video I needed to hear. Great video!
Yes - there are more folks teaching English than I imagined down here.
Love her
I want her life 😂
What's holding you back?
@@AlmostRetiredinMexico lack of time and motivation mainly the mental aspect
@@HER0333 Best of luck!
Is she staying on the 180 day limit? I dont think she mentioned this.
I haven't talked to her about this Peter. But I know that Mexico is "running a special" for folks who want to switch from tourist to temporary visas right now. I don't know a lot about it, but if you're in Mexico, there are opportunities right now that don't otherwise exist (I think it's like an amnesty period to get folks up to snuff.)
Greetings
From Querétaro.
Hola!
Really really want to move to Mx!!!
What's holding you back?
Enjoyed this video😃
Great. Thanks!
We love your videos so much we are going to LA Paz for a week to look into retirement. We leave snowy Portland behind. Keep up the great work.
Wonderful! We are able to go back north for the summer... but I'm trying to convince my wife that it's snowing still (we live in Portland during the summers) then it's too early to go north!
Where in Portland do you live? There are lots of Oregonians in La Paz!
We live in West Linn and fell in love with the Baja while visiting places to retire to. Not surprised us rain forest dwellers turn to the desert for a change. We'll be in LA Paz 4/26-5/3 and would love to buy you a sundowner. We are looking to retire on a boat and live at the marina.
Sadly we’ll be driving north on the 26th. Enjoy your time in La Paz! I’ve met a few people living in the marinas. Sounds like fun!
@@AlmostRetiredinMexico thanks Brighton. I'm sure our paths will cross someday. Have a safe drive, the weather here is supposed to get better soon.
Do you need to have a university degree in order to teach English in Mexico?
No. Do a google search for TESL and you'll find lots of info!
