    My indoor corn seedlings just die off at about 15-20cm, Direct sow they grow like crazy, what culd be the problem. This only happens to corn. Got the right temp soil etc, the only thing I can think of is the light, do I need artificial light?

    • @TowardGarden
      @TowardGarden  6 місяців тому +1

      If you grow them from seeds indoors, yes, they definitely need strong source of light. There might be other problems with growing indoors that caused your seedling to die but it is hard to tell without knowing the growing conditions. But if they are doing fine when direct-sown, then you are on the right path and know what works for your best. happy growing and thank you for getting in touch!

    So we need specific corn for containers? I want to use corn as decor for Halloween n maybe make a corn maze in my drive way

    • @TowardGarden
      @TowardGarden  Рік тому +1

      Ideally corn grown in containers should be 4-5 ft tall. You can grow other varieties (7-8 ft tall) in containers too but probably won't get many ears. If you want to grow for Halloween decoration, I recommend growing Strawberry popcorn corn which is perfect for containers. Happy growing and thank you for visiting!

    Great video!
    Do u also recommend potting soil instead of potting mix and bone/blood meal?

    • @TowardGarden
      @TowardGarden  8 місяців тому

      Potting soil and potting mix are basically the same. While they are good to start at transplanting, most bagged potting soils will be out of nutrients in few weeks. So you need to amend soil on a regular basis. If by "bone/blood meal" you mean the one with NPK 3-9-3 (Westland), yes it is a good option. Otherwise I recommend using a complete fertilizer for vegetables, any tomato fertilizer would work. Hope this helps and thank you very much for your comment!

    • @H2Oops
      @H2Oops 7 місяців тому +1

      Do you recommend a water soluble fertilizer or will a granular thrown on top of the soil work just as well?

    • @TowardGarden
      @TowardGarden  7 місяців тому

      @@H2Oops Both works great. water soluble ones need to be applied more frequently, but has quicker effect. Granular is easier to apply but takes time to be absorbed. Totally up to you. happy growing!

      If the lower leaves are dying, then it is most probably due to lack of nitrogen and under watering. Try to add composted manure or feed them with water soluble fertilizers such as fish emulsion for a quick effect. I suggest to fertilize more frequently with organic fertilizers too.
